[...] The sessions had only begun the previous December, and we’d had few instances of ESP in sessions, except for the physical effects that alternately intrigued and frightened me.
[...] But in the 116th session, December of 1964, I sat down and closed my eyes for the first time. Rob wisely said nothing until the session was over. [...]
It seems ridiculous now that it took me 116 sessions before I’d close my eyes or stop pacing the floor. [...] But I felt in control of these, while Seth was in control of sessions, and to me this made a difference. [...]
In 1964, though, when we wrote to Dr. Osis, the trance hadn’t achieved this depth, and I was just getting used to the idea of sitting down in sessions. During 1965 the Seth Material constantly accumulated at our twice weekly sessions. [...]
2. See Note 1 for the 727th session; it contains references to two sessions on the fetus, as Jane excerpted them for The Seth Material. Now see the 557th session for Chapter 13 of Seth Speaks; Seth presented additional information on the various ways reincarnating personalities associate themselves with the fetus. And after 11:24 in the 688th session, for Volume 1 of “Unknown” Reality, he talked about the present and future physical perceptions of the infant.
9. See Session 712 at 9:40. The whole of Seth’s first delivery for that session can supplement his data in this one. Also refer to his concluding paragraphs (after 10:52) for the 727th session.
[...] Our session is being witnessed by a student, a most intelligent young man (humorously). He also helps Ruburt with correspondence. [...] In our last session I compared a year to a ledge on a mountain. [...]
(“Good night, Seth,” I said at 11:57 P.M. And added a couple of days later, when I typed the session from my notes: After the session Will Petrosky spent the night with friends here in Elmira. [...]
(After last Monday night’s deleted session [on December 1], I told Jane that I wished I’d asked Seth a second question when he’d given me the chance: I’m very curious as to why I’m so fascinated by those hilltop towns in central southern Italy, inland from Naples. [...] As I wrote in the closing notes for the 929th session, I’ve been reminded once again of my feelings reincarnationally concerning those towns and villages. [...]
[...] Our talks reminded Jane of a group of private sessions Seth gave in 1973, so she looked those over before I came out to see if she wanted a session tonight. [...]
This will be a short session, but as always it can help you considerably if you do more than just read it, and take it to heart as well. [...] End of session. [...]
(“I’m taking it for granted that I can have a session,” Jane said as we sat waiting for Seth to come through at 9:13 PM, “but I sure know that I’m awfully uncomfortable.” [...]
[...] At 4:12 she began reading yesterday’s session—holding it upright by herself with both hands again—but she didn’t read very well. [...] Jane finally got through the session with my help. I hadn’t thought we’d manage to have a session today, the way things were going, but even though it was getting late. [...]
(I kept the session in mind, so I didn’t go so far as to tell Pete to go all out and start suing everybody—although we’ve discussed litigation re the insurance. [...] Now I don’t know whether to call Fred and get mad this afternoon, or what, considering the material in the session. The session may be acting as a healthy brake on my going too far, too quickly. [...]
(Both of us felt much better after the session. When I was walking out the door for home tonight, I realized that even so I’d forgotten to read the session to Jane, so I went back into 330 to do that. [...]
[...] I told Jane as I fed her the rest of her cold lunch that I’m going to have to start cutting down on the typing involved with these sessions, so that I can be sure I get each day’s work done before another load arrives the next day. [...]
(Since September 30 Seth has held two ESP class sessions; held a session for our friend John Barclay, who is moving to Nevada; held two sessions concerning the work Jane and I are embarking upon because of this material; and spoken through Jane upon television once more — this time during our return visit to a Washington, D.C. station.
[...] Once out of trance, Jane said she now felt as good or better than she had before the session began. [...] She had felt “really passive” during the session, and I had listened to her pace grow slower and slower as the session progressed.)
[...] Jane had been to the chiropractor today and was very relaxed — so relaxed that I asked her if she felt like having a session. [...] Her eyes were half open, her voice very quiet, almost conversational, as the session began.)
SESSION 555, OCTOBER 21, 1970,
9:30 P.M. WEDNESDAY
(Fortunately, class member Sue Watkins managed to tape all but the first few paragraphs of the session, but even the sense of those was taken down in longhand by another student while Sue got our recorder going. [I really enjoyed letting someone else do all the work for a change!] Later that week, Sue transcribed Seth’s material, wrote all of the notes for the session, and prepared mimeographed copies for everyone. Only portions of the session are given here, and I’ve rearranged them — and Sue’s notes — a bit for convenience’s sake. [...]
(Seth’s material here in the 724th session, given on December 4, 1974, at once reminded me of an informal session he’d held on a Friday evening some 10 months ago. [...]
[...] This unexpected kind of session rarely develops these days, but, as Jane said later, the subjects under discussion were “emotionally charged” for her — and for others present, too, I might add. [Incidentally, Seth began Volume 1 of “Unknown” Reality on February 4, 1974 — three days after this session was held.]
3. The session given in last Tuesday’s class (for January 29, 1974) had indeed been one of Seth’s best. [...] Here’s how he closed out the session:
See Note 4 for the 689th session (as well as the session itself), and Appendix 8 for this session.
(Jane had “no idea at all” of the material in the last session. [...] She hadn’t particularly felt like having a session last night so we ran errands instead. [...]
7. Refer to Appendix 6 for the 687th session, as well as the 689th session itself.
[...] As mentioned earlier (in the 684tb session), the present corporal structure of any physical body of any kind is maintained only because of the cells’ innate precognitive abilities. [...]
(A reminder: Each morning after breakfast we’ve been reading a session and having a discussion about it and matters in general. All our own sessions have been beneficial, I’d say. In these recent sessions Seth has several times referred to points he wants to go into in more detail later. [...]
[...] I tried to let her know, without pushing, that a session tonight would be helpful, that I wanted to take advantage of the opportunity to learn more. Jane decided to have a session by 9:30, then. [...]
(I’ve also thought of making a list of pertinent points—one liners, say —that are especially good, from these sessions. Seth comes through with great statements like that in just about every session, I’d say. [...]
[...] “It’s amazing,” Jane said with a laugh, after I said she really got going in the session. “I kept waiting and waiting and waiting—so I thank you for helping me have the session.” [...]
[...] She said she’d decided to hold the session because she “should” have it—whereas last night’s session had been quite spontaneous: she’d wanted to do it. [...] On the other hand, given our present work orientations the sessions would have to happen sometime during the week—at least twice—and it didn’t seem reasonable to think that Jane would have every one of those on the spontaneous spur of the moment. [...]
(I intend to now begin compiling a list of questions for Seth that grow out of his recent sessions—hence his remark above about such a list. We’ve talked about this a number of times, and I’ve also mentioned it in session notes. Coupled with this will be my compilation of brief quotes from the sessions—making points for Jane’s quick perusal that I think are especially good. [...]
(I was typing the first portion of last night’s session when I heard President Reagan giving his anxiously awaited first address to Congress; he spoke on economic issues mainly. [...] Eventually, however, she surprised me by saying she’d try for a session. [...]
This will be a brief session. I want you to read over the last sessions, however, for your own edification. [...]
(Once again, as described in the 215th session, a candle was lighted just before the session began. [...] This was twice as high as in the 215th session. [...] There were no drafts; the session was held in our small back room, and the windows were closed.
(Seth was giving general reincarnational data on my family and on Jane’s as early as the 9th session, while avoiding such things as times of death, etc. Actually the concept of reincarnation made its appearance in the first session. Seth began to be more specific on family reincarnational data when he told Jane and me in a very early session that neither of us would be born again on the physical plane; this, he said, accounted for our lack of children and the desire for them. [...]
(As suggested by Seth in the 212th session, I have been keeping a record of outside weather conditions just preceding each session. [...]
Your own attitudes toward the family have changed considerably, and have become more tolerant since our sessions. [...] Ruburt’s own attitude toward his mother has also become less rigid, largely as a result of our sessions. [...]
[...] Bill is a schoolteacher in his mid-twenties, and one of our friends who has known about these sessions from the beginning. [...] He has quite often expressed a desire to witness a session. In past sessions Seth has given Bill the name of his entity, Mark, and answered for Bill several questions that we relayed. [...]
(Now, Jane’s voice, which had been stronger than normal through the whole session, began to take on added timber; that is it began to grow deeper more than it increased in volume. [...] Already her voice had changed more than it had in any session except the 14th. [...]
All in all a splendid session. I’ve been attempting to get the point across about your father’s example now for three sessions, and finally Ruburt let me make it.
(This afternoon at 2 PM a very large tree limb fell just outside our living room windows, where I type up these sessions.
(Here is the private material Seth has given for Jane in the last two sessions:
(From Session 921 for October 8:) Tell Ruburt to relax, and to encourage and trust his body when it is undergoing so many changes, for the changes are all for the better. [...]
(From Session 922 for October 13:) Tell Ruburt to change his pillows more frequently. [...]
SESSIONS 921 & 922 (DELETED PORTIONS)
(We searched through If We Live Again, looking for a certain poem she’d written in January 1980, in connection with a session I’m typing for Dreams, but when we found the poem it was not the one we wanted. I answered some mail, and told Jane I’d have a session any time she wanted one. [...]
(Jane had engaged in her spontaneous actions re 458 in response to Seth’s suggestions in the last session—that she imagine others complementing her on how well she was doing, and so forth. [...]
[...] At 2:28 she started reading the session for the day before yesterday—the one she had so much trouble with yesterday and did very well indeed. [...]
[...] “It looks like those pills—the vitamins—are really beginning to help you,” I said yesterday, after one such session of leg movement. “How about the beliefs and the sessions?” Jane demanded right away. I replied that all I knew was that she couldn’t move like that before taking the vitamins, the peanut oil massages, and the cod liver oil, etc., but I added that I was more than happy to credit sessions, beliefs, and/or anything else that gave us results. I said that I thought the pills, our changing beliefs, and the sessions were all working together. [...]
(We sat for the session at about 8:55. [...]
You have much to be thankful for, in the definite improvements following our last session. [...]
(The following is the balance of the regular 617th session for September 25, 1972. Seth spent the first portion of the session dictating on Chapter 3 of his book, The Nature of Personal Reality.)
[...] It has resulted in a greater freedom in our sessions because the two of you together discussed your conscious beliefs about sessions, and Ruburt learned that many of his previous beliefs here were limited.
[...] I considered it the best part of the session, but now do not have it to read. [...] The session ended at 11:20.
[...] Jane and I were discussing the session when Seth came through briefly at 11:35:)
Knowing that Dr. Instream would be concentrating on each session put me under a strain, perhaps because of my own attitude. But now I felt that I really had to have a session each Monday and Wednesday evening, come hell or high water. And even when we were alone, which we usually were, I felt that the sessions were no longer private—that an invisible Dr. Instream was an audience. We seldom missed a session before the Instream tests. But now my idea of great defiance was to miss a session, to go out and get a beer and let the psychologist go stare at his old vase or ink spot or whatever he’d chosen for that night’s test.
[...] For example, occasionally friends would come unannounced to a session and bring their own test envelope. This was just handed to me in the middle of the session, without my knowing beforehand whether or not a test would be held. Sometimes Rob would use such an envelope at once; at other times he would save it for a future session.
For the next eleven months, the Seth sessions dealt mainly with test data of one kind or another. [...] If we did have one of our own tests, then we’d sit up after the session, trying to evaluate the results. [...]
Although my confidence had risen with the two out-of-body episodes, I felt that I was putting Seth and myself on the line with each test session. [...] Often I was afraid of having a session for fear we’d have an envelope test and the results just would not apply. [...]
(In the last session Seth said the possibility existed that we would have four or five witnesses for the session tonight. He had also mentioned such a possibility during Sunday’s unscheduled session of February 27. [...]
(These sessions began when we contacted the Frank Watts personality through the Ouija board, in December 1963. The Frank Watts personality was replaced in the 4th session by Seth. Seth has dealt with Frank Watts to some degree in the following sessions: 4, 8, 11, 14, 15, 16, 21, 25, 29, 31, 51, 85, 88, 173, 184, 189, 224. [...]
(Prior to the session Jane and I had a discussion as to the exact profession of the person who had written the many notes on the manuscript of her ESP book. See pages 319-20 for notes on this, in the 236th session, and Seth’s comments. [...]
(The session was held in our front room. Jane spoke while sitting down and with her eyes closed, and once again her pace was slow; at times during this first delivery it was as slow as I can remember during any session. [...]
(I had prepared a test envelope to give to Jane during the 181st session, of August 25, but did not do so because of the short session. When the envelope was not used I did not mention it to her, but saved it for tonight’s session. [...] See the 179th and 180th sessions. [...]
(During the session Seth gave an accurate psychological account of Bill Gallagher’s mother, according to Bill. [...] After the session Bill Gallagher told us his mother had been a bookkeeper, was buried wearing a blue dress—blue was her favorite color—and that she was indeed very fond of flowers.)
(The very first sessions dealt a good deal with reincarnation. [...] Frank Watts, it will be remembered, was our communicator; the present Seth entity did not announce his presence until the 4th session, when he superseded Frank Watts.
[...] of the session she had deliberately “held off” any dissociation, being quite upset by the psychiatrist’s letter. [...] However, the phenomena did not return for the balance of the session. And since she exhibited no voice changes this need not be mentioned for the balance of the session. [...]
(This was our second consecutive session without the board, though I had it out simply to use as a handy writing board on my lap. [...] We thought that we would let the session open itself, however it might. [...]
(Throughout this session Jane maintained the same deliberate, normal tone of voice; also, her rate of pacing was quite deliberate and much slower than the previous few sessions. [...]
We will have our regular session Wednesday. [...] Or I will end up using half of each session to hush you. [...]
[...] Some realization has come to the overly conscientious self, even before last night’s session, or the session itself would have been much more difficult.
(This session is also deleted from the regular records, since it deals with personal material. [...]
The message (the contents of the last session, the 367th), so far has reached the super-conscientious self. [...]
Last night’s poor sleep and symptoms were simply a reaction to the information given (in last night’s session), and represented a momentary (underlined) stiffening of position by both sides of the personality. [...]
