I have come through to help Ruburt sever the emotional contact, and at Ruburt’s request. [...] I thought Ruburt might like to get some information directly from someone who had a greater interest in such matters than I, and I paged our good friend.

Congratulations to our mathematical genius, Ruburt. [...] It was a valuable lesson for Ruburt. [...]

A brief note to Ruburt.

[...] I am simply using Ruburt’s minor symptoms as a springboard here. [...]

Now: Ruburt once went door-to-door selling cosmetics. [...]

You are not selling cosmetics now, and now Ruburt does not go door-to-door, but people come to you either physically or through their correspondence, and now you have far more to offer. [...]

Ruburt once received a few interesting pages from a world view, in which the author spoke, in archaic terms, of being a person who was a “life-taster,” sent by God to taste the quality of man’s experience, so that God might know what new ingredients might be added.

[...] In the experimental seance, due to the circumstances and lack of training on Ruburt’s part, we redistributed some energy. Ruburt, during the seance, weighed somewhat less than his usual weight. [...]

Ruburt does not approve of guns. [...] You saw this happen in a different way—after the envelope was opened, when Ruburt insisted on seeing the moose instead of the eagle.

[...] For instead of the gun, which to Ruburt signifies destruction, purposeful destruction, you have the distortion of the eagle shape on the gun label, into a woman and child image, signifying of course creativity in this case.

Give us a moment … I told you (in the last session) that in one probability Ruburt was a nun, expressing mysticism in a highly disciplined context, where it must be watched so that it does not get out of hand. Because there is an unconscious flow of information and experience here, you have one of the reasons for Ruburt’s caution in some psychic matters, and his fear of leading people astray. There were three offshoots: one, the nun, with mysticism conventionally expressed, but under guarded circumstances; one, the writer who veiled mystical experience through art; and one, the Ruburt you know, who experienced mystical experience directly, teaches others to do the same, and forms through writing a wedding of the two aspects. You have known two of those selves, then, and you were present at Ruburt’s birth with Idea Construction.

[...] Ruburt’s mystical nature was such a strong portion of the entire identity that in his present reality, and in the probable reality chosen — as mentioned when I discussed this picture (of Jane) — the mystic impulses and expressions were given play. [...]

[...] (A one mimute pause.) Think of Ruburt’s living area in Adventures⁵ for example. [...]

(Long pause.) I am speaking primarily to Ruburt in this particular sentence, but to some extent this applies to both of you, particularly involving the projecting of negative beliefs into the future. [...] Ruburt’s hands will improve. [...]

Now: Ruburt’s body is experimenting with its own metabolism. [...]

(Long pause.) I am watching out for Ruburt, and have been, and for you as well. [...]

Ruburt’s projection from the dream state was legitimate, though his control was poor. The plants Ruburt saw represented the books upon which he has worked and is working. The Lydia episode contained many ordinary dream elements. [To Rob:] You were indeed present with Ruburt in some of his travels, but you have forgotten.

Ruburt saw two of you. [...] The other was Ruburt’s dream form of you, created by himself in the dream state. [...]

Ruburt [in the dream given before this session] was in the third form, and he did project beyond your solar system. [...] If Ruburt’s experience had been only this, it still would have been pertinent, for when you understand a concept in such a way the knowledge is never forgotten. [...]

[...] (Pause.) I do not believe that Ruburt will be moved, as I read probabilities thus far. [...]

Again, Ruburt’s body is indeed preparing itself so that he can sit and walk with some assurance and conviction. [...]

This session should help to reinforce your own faith, and Ruburt’s.

Ruburt is determined to better his condition, and already has allowed many (underlined) improved motions. [...]

(9:28.) As mentioned earlier, Ruburt had little experience with the medical situation. [...]

It is not at all helpful, as once I told you, to continually refer to Ruburt’s condition as arthritis, with a formal title. [...]

Ruburt, in feeling sound, merely experienced the sound from a different perspective. You have had this experience more frequently perhaps than Ruburt, Joseph.

Ruburt experienced this in his psychological time experiment this afternoon, and it reminded me that more material definitely was needed here.

I will indeed now close our session, the reason mainly being that Ruburt has been oriented in a quickened fashion toward our work since he began his book again, and he has used additional energy in doing so. [...]

[...] Ruburt had strong elements of personality still caught up in the beliefs of what I have called the Sinful Self. [...]

To some extent Ruburt’s panic is also the result of trying to live up to an impossible image, while forgetting his own personal background, and by expecting himself to behave as if that background was unimportant. [...]

[...] (Something I’ve wondered about at times.) Ruburt has been facing the feelings of panic, however, that he had buried. [...]

If Ruburt has the full plan for a book in his head, then this is real. [...]

[...] It is very important that Ruburt, here, change his attitude toward his physical body – his own image of it.

You mentioned this to Ruburt recently. [...]

Ruburt thinks of a mobile, but that is not precisely it at all. [...]

[...] (Here now Ruburt thinks of your niece, and the letter announcing her marriage. [...]

[...] When you want to give Ruburt a vacation from them, this is quite all right. [...]

[...] In the 589th session Seth tells us in part: “…there is the same kind of connection between that personality and myself as the one that exists between Ruburt and myself. But in your terms, Seth Two is far further divorced from my reality than I am from Ruburt’s. You can imagine Seth Two as a future portion of me if you prefer, and yet far more is involved.”

Ruburt’s perception is highly altered this evening, and this is an example of certain kinds of both affirmation and denial. [...]

Now: Ruburt’s mind is far more aware of other realities than his brain is, but he consciously believes in the greater reality of himself and his perceptions. [...]

Your approach and Ruburt’s are different. Ruburt knows the defects are there. [...]

[...] in a fashion Ruburt and Tam’s seemingly emotional, fairly spontaneous relationship has represented good common business sense on Ruburt’s part. [...]

Crowder, you think, left a large moneyed estate—far more than either you or Ruburt possess. [...]

Ruburt’s bedsores can improve, and will indeed do so. [...]

Ruburt can tell himself that the same energy that writes his books and that moved his foot up this afternoon can indeed heal those other portions of his body. [...]

Now, once more, the thing for Ruburt to remember is the sense of ease, agility, and freedom. [...]

Again, you have further evidence that Ruburt is indeed recovering. [...]

Be thankful for that evidence on your Thanksgiving Day, and although Ruburt did not read as well today, the eyes are indeed still improving. [...]

Your ideas about imagining Ruburt at home, without worrying about how (underlined) he got there, are excellent, as these improvements continue to show themselves, they obviously set the ground for further improvements in a more accelerated fashion. [...]

Some of the material may be difficult initially for Ruburt to express, but it is well worth the effort and the momentary outbursts. Such experiences should be followed, however, by reassurances, both on your part, and by self-reminders on Ruburt’s part that his being and experience are indeed couched and held securely in safety and love.

The free association is indeed then operating as it should, and that expression will clear the mental and emotional roads, so that Ruburt’s natural, innate high spirits can begin to show their faces again. [...]
