As far as the experience recently encountered by Ruburt’s friend, it was quite legitimate. Subconsciously the teacher realized that she was about to die, and communicated this realization to Ruburt’s friend, who is indeed, as I have said before, an excellent receiver.

The twine was nearest I could get Ruburt to come. I was seeing however the January 25 letter Ruburt wrote, and was trying to get across the idea of a book to be mailed out. [...]

It did Ruburt good to talk with his friend, for he has been concentrating with too much vigor of late.

[...] Your dream merely reflected fears about Ruburt. [...]

Ruburt’s improvement in a way triggered your hopes, and because of your beliefs of the past also triggered your deep fears. [...]

Before even hearing the poetry no such audience, Ruburt felt, would question the fact of poetry itself—its techniques, traditions or value. [...] Ruburt feels the existence of innumerable barriers in that regard—having, he feels, to fend with the questions that ensue. [...]

If Ruburt wants to disagree with the world’s knowledge, he feels that it is his right—and again, would defend such ideas forthrightly. [...] But Ruburt is not aware of my subjective experience. [...]

There is some difference, of course, in Ruburt’s mind between his attitude toward his books and mine. [...]

I will also see to it that Ruburt’s condition improves, and immediately. [...] (Long pause.) I will however, because I do sympathize, see to it that Ruburt’s condition immediately changes for the better, in all ways.

[...] It is natural that at a point such as this, Ruburt’s activities should show in great contrasts. [...]

[...] You have more to gain than to lose by any visit from Ruburt’s aunt.

The letter that Ruburt has written is significant in ways that you have not seen. [...] In the past Ruburt would not admit, basically, that such survival was a fact, much less ask for help from such quarters.

[...] Part two, and the saga of Ruburt’s health.

[...] Now Ruburt, you may say, has done all the hard work leading to a recovery alone; but he has had help. [...]

Ruburt saddled himself with a feeling of responsibility, however. [...] (Long pause.) Because women were somehow regarded as less responsible than males, more easily given to frivolity, Ruburt also tried even harder to insure that he was acting in a responsible way. [...]

Years ago, Ruburt picked up that idea of work, applying it to creativity in his (underlined) own ways. [...]

This artistic sense of responsibility was given a thicker coat by what seemed to be psychic responsibility: it seemed to Ruburt that he should use his abilities primarily to help others, or to help solve the world’s problems, or to cast some light into man’s condition. [...]

All in all, it is just as well that the relationship between Ruburt and Mrs. Masters be terminated. Ruburt’s and your idea of bidding her good-bye is necessarily a good one.

[...] This is true in any case, that is, either one involving you Joseph, or involving Ruburt; and the difference between the energies that you tap when you are in rapport with each other and when you are not is immeasurable.

There is a certain knack necessary on Ruburt’s part, a difference in the way in which energy is used, a variation of method between sessions in which rather objective material is presented, and in those sessions where we attempt to make a more personal type of contact.

The scales can also be used for weighing Ruburt before, after, and during sessions. [...]

Ruburt needed to hear the precise material that you read to him today.

(“Just what do you mean when you say that you “adjust those coordinates that quicken Ruburt’s healing processes?”

[...] Ruburt therefore put himself in a position—as he knows, now—where he focused most of his spontaneity and attention on his work to insure its fulfillment, while cutting out all other distractions and possibilities of misuse or license.

[...] His mother’s death, the fact that you left your job, and his own growing understanding released him first in financial terms, because of an always latent knowledge and belief in the reality of abundance—his father did have abundance even while Ruburt believed in poverty as a child.

It was never, except for the time mentioned, the writing self that Ruburt distrusted, but he feared for the worthiness of his being. [...]

One note: Ruburt was correct in the interpretation he just gave you. [...]

Strong abilities show themselves, and Ruburt’s inner life is a full and rich one, his inner perceptions well-developed. [...]

[...] Ruburt, reading from a book, would still have to receive and translate that information without knowing the endless manipulations necessary. [...]

[...] Ruburt did not come to his recognition of the world’s mental source through reasoning. [...] Ruburt’s consciousness merged, while still retaining its own individuality, with the consciousness of the leaves outside his window, and with the nail in the windowsill, and traveled outward and inward at the same time, so that like a mental wind his consciousness traveled through other psychological neighborhoods.

(With many pauses:) Dictation: The physical universe is the result of idea construction, as Ruburt perceived in the experience mentioned in the last session (at 11:10).

[...] As James said in Ruburt’s book,¹ “The universe is of good intent.” [...]

[...] Ruburt is another. [...] I do not speak alone to Ruburt and Joseph, for example, but my words go out to the world that you know. Still within your framework, Ruburt tunes in to another station, translates it and broadcasts the information. [...]

Ruburt does extremely well with interior sound, and so I use that method rather than, say, an image to make my independent existence known. Now Ruburt called me originally (last Saturday night) at unconscious levels because he was upset with “earth programming.” [...] I was not speaking to Ruburt personally when he heard me, but addressing myself to the world at large in a program that was indeed picked up by others.

Ruburt acts as a receiver when I speak, and so I must make certain adjustments so that my message can be channeled under conditions that involve, among other things, his nervous system and physical apparatus. That evening, through using what I call interior sound,⁵ I let Ruburt become acquainted with the power at my disposal so that he could realize that it did, basically now, come from beyond his personality as he understands it.

“As I have told you, projection is involved to some extent, both on my part and Ruburt’s. Your [Rob’s] own presence is also important, whether or not you are present at any given session. [...] So now see Ruburt as my television screen. … It makes no difference whether or not I am myself speaking within Ruburt now … or whether I did this last night in his sleep, and tonight is a film or playback.

“In ways, Ruburt is turned into a vitalized telegram. [...] The psychological bridge of which I have spoken serves us well, however, and this exists on Ruburt’s part as well as my own.

[...] Using it Ruburt can call upon me at other occasions. [...]

This involves an assimilation on the part of Ruburt’s whole personality, that is quite important for his overall development. It is difficult to explain some of this in words, but connections are being formed, actually in terms of psychic structures, so that a much larger amount of inner data will become available to Ruburt on a conscious level.

The results of this new integration are only now beginning to show in Ruburt’s work. [...] Ruburt’s experience with his friend Marian, was in a strange way also a result of his increased abilities.

I have given you a rest, and this will be as Ruburt correctly supposed a short session.

The Miss Callahan mentioned in connection with the 23rd was the first mentioned of that date, as Ruburt somewhat belatedly realized today. The restlessness which was apparent in Miss Callahan’s behavior when Ruburt saw her, was but a small tangible evidence of the inner crisis. [...]

The moments will reoccur, as Ruburt noticed Miss Callahan doodled upon a pad without any conscious knowledge of so doing, and without knowledge of what was written. [...]

[...] What came through was correct, but my charming Ruburt merely blocked the rest.

[...] Do not bother now, but when you are momentarily “down,” it is then particularly important that Ruburt look in the mirror, apply the lipstick, and smile in whatever fashion. [...]

[...] The more healthy connections are being made in that regard, and it is true that Ruburt’s body often feels exceedingly warm. [...]

Once again, it is most important that Ruburt keep his goals in mind, and remember that despite any given mood the healing process continues. [...]

(11:03.) Now: I have several remarks, and before I get to Ruburt I have a few for you, Joseph: there is no division in your activities daily (re a discussion Jane and I had today). [...]

Ruburt’s body to some extent has tranquilized itself. [...]

[...] Ruburt can now use such information because of his trust, which has grown. [...]
