[...] I am working through and with Ruburt. Ruburt is a writer by profession and I am, again, a rather sly individual, for Ruburt will express my views for me, and this is what I am interested in.

And here you see an example of my sly nature, for Ruburt (louder) will present my material for me. [...] It simply happens that because of past relationships I know Ruburt well, and Ruburt knows me far better than he imagines.

[...] They will say merely that Ruburt is clairvoyant, and Ruburt has telepathic powers. [...]

[...] I have trained Ruburt and taught Ruburt so that his valid clairvoyant experiences can be put on some sort of scientific basis. [...]

The development freed Ruburt from many old limitations, and allowed him to at last have practical experience with the unknown reality in intimate terms. Ruburt’s library does exist as surely as this room does. [...] So in this work I am presenting you not only with probabilities as conjecture, but, often, showing you how such probabilities affect your daily lives, and giving examples of the ways in which Ruburt’s and Joseph’s lives have been so touched.

I said at our last session that the evening was momentous for Ruburt, and that is true for many reasons. This book⁶ deals with the unknown reality, and Ruburt began a different excursion into other dimensions last week.

During these years, then, Ruburt’s position within his psyche has gradually shifted until he found a new, for him better, firmer point of basis. [...] I will continue to speak from my own unique viewpoint, but in your terms Ruburt is one of you, and his explorations, taken from your perspective, can be most valuable.

Ruburt has allowed a portion of his this-life consciousness to go off on a tangent, so to speak, on another path into another system of actuality (i.e., into his psychic library). His life there is as valid as his existence in your world. [...]

(11:55.) Ruburt has decided to move, and the body is responding.

Frank’s knowledge of the muscles, in your terms, helped Ruburt to a large degree. [...]

[...] Ruburt’s body felt dead by contrast in large areas in the past. [...]

[...] Your Ruburt was, indeed, Seth. Your Ruburt spoke with my voice, for it was his voice.

[...] I could not tell you in the beginning in so many words that Ruburt is myself, because you would have leaped to the conclusion that I was Ruburt’s subconscious mind, and this is not so.

[...] Ruburt is now the result of the Seth that I once was, for I have changed since then. Ruburt represents, and is, a personality formed by that Seth which was myself, by focusing upon and using a peculiar set of attributes and abilities. [...]

Ruburt has changed since then, and so have I. And yet we are bound together, and no invasion occurs because in one way of speaking our psychic territory is the same. [...] My own emotional feeling, you see, goes outward, which is away from Ruburt often, since basically we are tempted to think of ourselves as one, though actually our roots are merely the same.

Ruburt, wanting a certain kind of career, tried to be less feminine. [...] In any case Ruburt thought of your art as noncompetitive, solitary, intuitive, and opposed to the stereotyped masculine role. [...]

[...] Again, the changes are occurring in order, and it is of prime importance that Ruburt trust that order.

[...] The knees exercise themselves when Ruburt is sleeping, and stretch when no weight is upon them. [...]

[...] You showed the dream to Ruburt after typing it up. [...] The meanings began to come to Ruburt, and the dream itself stirred your own waking associations, so that the two of you discussed those days and the early days of your marriage. [...]

[...] Ruburt has been fascinated at times by the idea of working nights, his ways of assuring such isolation. [...]

(3:49.) Ruburt began to wonder about television and so forth for publicity. [...]

[...] Ruburt’s initial experience represented such an encounter. [...]

[...] One of the reasons for the change in the sessions is to give Ruburt experience along these lines.

[...] Since I am not here that immediately, then Ruburt must go further. [...]

Now in your last session Ruburt was given a very primary experience. [...]

[...] It is difficult for Ruburt to maintain steadily that particular reception of frequency, and within certain limits there is sometimes a slipping in and out, so that now and then Ruburt’s personal subconscious is allowed to intrude. [...]

I am going to ask you to wait a moment while the kitchen window is closed, as the traffic is disturbing Ruburt.

The immediate money resulting with the contracts served as financial reinforcement at a time when you and Ruburt needed it. [...] So does Jane, I think.) Ruburt was worried about money in the bank then—not six months or a year hence with royalties. [...] You and Ruburt also wanted the books to be in the general market.

[...] Ruburt (Jane) mentioned that. [...]

[...] Most likely, Ruburt will do some teaching in the future, not immediately, with a different format entirely. [...]

[...] The two Bantam sales, for example, Material and Seth Speaks, served purposes for you and Ruburt, and Prentice as well.

It was from the beginning necessary not only that Ruburt’s abilities be developed, but also that Ruburt’s ego not be left in the dark.

[...] You are not unfamiliar with this program, Joseph, nor indeed is Ruburt. [...] It is Ruburt’s independent ego that is here a strong helpmate to us, for since we have taken it into consideration it allows us leeway while automatically keeping the whole personality in good balance.

[...] Ruburt’s abilities now are beginning to develop. [...]

[...] You also act, in that you provide both added energy and help Ruburt to receive these communications. [...]

The feelings should not be treated with disapproval, for it is, of course, because Ruburt disapproves of such feelings that he often keeps them hidden. Expressed in such a manner, they may indeed elicit tears on Ruburt’s part — and perhaps on your own as well.

It will help considerably if Ruburt discusses his mistrust of the body with you — thus expressing those feelings within the framework of your relationship.

Ruburt should actually address those feelings sympathetically, explaining to them where they came from. [...]

It is easy for Ruburt to recover—it really is. [...] Ruburt has the quote, and the statement is true. [...]

Ruburt has indeed made excellent strides, of late, in dealing with beliefs, and in switching orientation, so that he is beginning to learn to use the magical approach—which is, again, the natural one. [...]

It seems you need certain practical instructions that involve direct experience, immediate feedback, and Ruburt has been receiving some of that in the dream state, and also to some extent in his waking reality, as he begins to trust the feelings of support and relaxation. [...]

[...] Ruburt’s dream, by the way, also signaled him that he is now approaching what the Sumarians used to call “the time of festivals,” or a time of grace. [...]

[...] For my personality is not Ruburt, nor is Ruburt mine. [...] I make no attempt to dominate Ruburt’s private life nor, indeed would I expect him to allow it. [...] I do not represent any restrained or any inhibited portions of Ruburt’s own being. [...]

The development of abilities was necessary, and will show regardless of the particular way in which Ruburt may choose to use the abilities. [...] It took a strong, remarkably strong, set of emotional conditions before Ruburt allowed himself as much freedom as the other evening.

[...] There was on Ruburt’s part a much more complete inner concentration, and for this initial indication a strong stimulus was necessary. As Ruburt suspects, granted the circumstances, subconscious controls were used. [...]

[...] This was simply because Ruburt did not know how to handle the new conditions. [...] I realized what was going to occur, and I could have helped, shielding Ruburt to some degree. [...]

Now, to avoid confusion, the girl is not a medium as, say, Ruburt is, according to your use of the term. [...] But the medium through which Ruburt traveled was the electrical and electromagnetic medium sent out by the girl’s highly-charged emotional condition.

[...] I [recently] suggested a project to Ruburt’s class — one that will ultimately illuminate many of the points I am making in “Unknown” Reality. I suggested that Ruburt’s students create a “city”⁹ at another level of reality. [...]

Ruburt directed his will in certain areas. [...] Ruburt used his will to solve [a series of] challenges.

[...] Ruburt with his practical mind interpreted this more literally than you did, and physical restriction was a part of his natural early environment [because of his mother’s chronic illness], as it was not in yours. [...] The point of power is in the present;¹³ this kind of material and its understanding [by Ruburt and others] is more important than “past” causes.

A note added six months later: These lines are from a personal session Seth delivered on April 29, 1975, just five days after finishing dictation on “Unknown” Reality (in the 744th session): “Our books, and I am including Ruburt’s, fall into no neat category … In the beginning, particularly, and for that matter now, Ruburt had no accepted credentials. [...]

It often seemed safer, even, to keep a certain distance from the material, lest you accept it too uncritically, and Ruburt’s critical stance was usually simply an unneeded defense, so that he could keep footing in both worlds at once. [...] Ruburt should ask for another reincarnational dream, and it will help both of you if you consider your situation from a larger context – for that context will throw illumination upon those areas where your comprehension is less than it might be (with quiet amusement).

Ruburt found our last session extremely depressing, as he saw how the two of you conspired to bring about his physical condition. [...]

Ruburt has often felt that it was too late, and that you could not help him —for you would sabotage his efforts, as it seemed he himself did. [...]

Your joint comprehension of this can bring about changes in Ruburt’s condition that now, to you, would seem to be miracles. [...]

It was no coincidence however that Ruburt’s Father Trayner read him poetry, inspired Ruburt’s love of poetry, and that Ruburt would feel that he had to use poetry to express ideas with which his mentor did not agree.

Many of the points you have made to Ruburt lately have been well taken, and were more important than you realized. [...] Now Ruburt’s ego had been hit over the head, so to speak, so many times in his childhood that it became very sensitive, developing a rigidity out of self-protection.

[...] This Ruburt must learn. [...]

[...] This did not bother Ruburt therefore.

[...] I also know more specifically in your terms the time schedule of Ruburt’s recovery, and important developments regarding it. But Ruburt’s knowing and your knowing alters your experience, changing the present as I see it—which leads, as it is, to those events.

[...] There is no need for Ruburt to try to keep track of this process. [...]

[...] Ruburt’s feelings, as the two sides of the body now begin to line up more properly, reflect this. [...]

Over the phone Ruburt reminded Andrea of her own basic uniqueness, and also of the fact that she was creating her reality through beliefs. Ruburt reinforced other ideas that Andrea had momentarily forgotten — the fact, among others, of her own true worth; and because Ruburt believed in Andrea’s worth, and because Andrea knew it, this more positive belief rose up to shove the others aside.

Dictation: Today Ruburt received a call from a young woman I will name Andrea. [...]

[...] She called to tell Ruburt that she had lost her job this morning; but more than this, that she was involved in a week of very negative circumstances and emotional encounters. [...]

She told Ruburt that she felt herself to be an inferior person, unable to cope, an individual who was not able to hold her own with her co-workers or the world at large.
