(Long pause.) Since ancient times religion has tried to help man understand the nature of his own subjective reality — but religion has its own dark side, and for this reason religion unfortunately has fostered fear of the spontaneous.

[...] Unfortunately such concepts are also reflected in fields of psychology, particularly in Freudianism — where, say, slips of the tongue may betray the self’s hidden, nefarious true desires.

Many men look forward to having sons, while at the same time they revere marriage as a necessary part of respectable family life, and also feel that marriage is somehow degrading — particularly to a male — and that the sex act itself is only justified if it brings him an heir.

The soul or entity is always in a state of flux, or learning, and of developments that have to do with subjective experience rather than with time or space. [...]

Channels, psychological and psychic, always exist, sending communications back and forth through the various levels of the self, and the ego accepts necessary information and data from inner portions of the personality without question. [...]

Any time the two of you enjoy yourselves physically in lovemaking you are reinforcing and reviving whole groups of healthy beliefs on many levels vital to each of you. [...]

[...] At times you have both asked why an ailing body does not simply assert itself and use its healing abilities, throwing off the negative influence of a given set of beliefs and thoughts.

[...] It is not just that thoughts influence the body, as of course they do; but each one of them represents a triggering stimulus, bringing about hormonal changes and altering the entire physical situation at any given time.

(Pause at 9:16.) Your physical body … give us time … is, as an entity, the fleshed-out version — the physically alive version — of the body of your thoughts. [...]

(While trying psychological time I had the following experiences:

[...] By the time break arrived, her delivery had become quite slow and deliberate. [...] Psychologically speaking, and in these terms only, on certain levels the son desires to replace the father. [...]

As a change of environment affects twins, Twin A becoming something different again through a given environment from Twin B in another environment, so twins born in different times also develop different portions of a basic personality pattern. [...]

This son is basically a psychological twin of the mother, but developing a more spacious personality, and a more giving nature. [...]

[...] The excitement of the chase is being substituted for the excitement that is required and demanded by the questioner, and rightly so because of the questioner’s psychological makeup.

So viruses can be beneficial or deadly according to the condition, state, and needs of the body at any given time. [...]

It was clear something had happened: Jane said her legs were more relaxed than they’d been in years—but at the same time they were so sore she was appalled. I feel as if this is the first sign that those psychological and physical areas are being touched or allowed to relax or release. [...]

[...] In comparison with those times, however, children are now born ancient, for even biologically they carry within themselves the memories of their ancestors. In those pristine eras, however, the species itself arose, in those terms, newly from the womb of timelessness into time.

[...] Others are translated instead into psychological structures called events, that seem to exist in a medium you call time.

Even the duration of an event or object in space or time is determined by the intensity of the thoughts or emotions that gave it birth. Duration in space is not the same as duration in time, however, though it may seem that this is the case. [...] An event or object that exists briefly in space may have a much greater duration in time. [...] Such an event or object does not merely exist symbolically within your mind or memory — but in your terms its actual reality continues as a time event.

(After holding the first session for this chapter, Jane wrote intently on Oversoul 7 and did some work on a long-range project that she tentatively calls Aspect Psychology. [...]

[...] It grew out of Tropical Storm Agnes — which, somewhat ironically, had lost its hurricane status by the time it began its erratic course up the East Coast from Florida. [...]

[...] He does not carry his precious spherical time idea far enough to begin with. His spherical time is like the surface of a sphere only.

[...] Since psychologists deal with psychological activity, it is all the more amazing that they have not concentrated upon psychological activity, observing it first hand as it exists in their own various stages of consciousness.

[...] The inverted time system will appear plainly, if any examination is made as to the relationship between time and the dream state.

(To Joel.) You are forming, with the help of another personality, a psychological bridge over the chasms that exist between realities. Give yourselves time so that that bridge can be a firm and secure one, before you start saying, prove to me the bridge exists. [...]

Now, in our friends dream of probable reality what you have, though none of you will admit it for some time particularly this one (to Molly), is practical experience with probable reality as it exists with people that you know. [...]

You are each the miracles of consciousness, and those miracles occur within you constantly in your terms of time. [...] He was the black hole for awhile then he ran around the other side of the set and became the white hole and the whole transfer occurred through him and the whole thing may have been a symbol and that this occurs back and forth and constantly in all of us all the time.”)

I was really undecided whether to suggest it to Jane or to you, but you see like I’m kind of at an impasse because, like, there are a lot of words and a lot of concepts and philosophies bandied about, but when you make a claim you know such as that in as specific and nonconfusable terms such as that it would be very simple to demonstrate, and what I was wondering is, either now or at some time when Jane would agree to it, for instance, I brought some playing cards with me, ten cards...”)
