In fact, cotton soaked in this water, and applied upon the eyelids before psychological time experiments would be the most beneficial. [...] At some times the temperature of the water will be as low as 58 degrees Fahrenheit.
[...] Ruburt has been trying too hard lately with psychological time, and trying to make his subconscious function and focus, in the same manner that the conscious mind does.
[...] As session time approached she felt a little nervous, yet not very much. By 8:50 PM, Willy was once again prowling through the apartment, both alert and stealthy at the same time. [...]
In modern times, then, the intellect was finally left with only one acceptable world view, with one set of assumptions, with only one main approach to reality and experience. The acceptable assumptions to a large extent ran directly contradictory to built-in biological, spiritual, and psychological assumptions that are a part of man’s heritage. [...]
Ruburt feels hopeless at times because the assumptions of the rational approach often lead in that direction, and because he has not been certain enough of himself in those other areas to get the kind of long-lasting results he wants. This applies to both of your attitudes at times.
[...] The natural self, however, like the rest of nature, possesses a rich dimension of inside psychological depth, that science, because of its own definitions, cannot perceive. [...]
[...] The music at times was literally deafening in volume, combined as it was with a large choir and a jazz band. [...]
(Jane also felt strong thrilling sensations at the jazz mass, saying they were like the sensations she attains during psy-time, that she calls her good state, and occasionally ecstasy.
[...] As she has done often lately, she spoke a good deal of the time while sitting forward in her rocker, her elbows resting on her knees, her head tipped down to some degree.)
(I missed trying psychological time on Wed. [...]
(While trying psychological time I had the following experiences:
(Jane: 7/15, 11:30 AM: While trying psychological time I began daydreaming about the house we plan to buy. [...]
[...] His job was not in jeopardy, but John was restless and needed changes; at the same time he felt he was not the stereotype personality his company demanded for district managers, which position would be the next step up for John in the drug company for which he worked. [...]
(While trying psychological time on Wednesday, September 9, 8:15 PM, I had, after reaching a pleasant state, the rather strange sensation of having my legs pulled or stretched, as though some force was trying to elongate them. [...] It had some duration also; I had plenty of time to lightly explore the sensation.
Now this is what you attempt when you experiment with psychological time, when your communication comes through the inner rather than the outer senses. [...]
(Seth began referring to mental enclosures, mental enzymes, etc., many many sessions ago, at the same time he began to give the information on the inner senses. By the time the 20th session was held these discussions of such material were in full swing.)
[...] It was the first time she could remember that any outside influences had made themselves felt while she was dictating.
[...] Well over two and a half years ago, I wrote in the opening notes for that session that Jane had “some 17 chapters in fairly good shape for her third Seven novel, Oversoul Seven and the Museum of Time.” [...] Although she considered resuming work on Seven Three at various times while she was producing Dreams with Seth, she never did; the status of that novel remains the same. [...]
[...] Isotopes of some of the elements involved with that energy have “half-lives” of millions of years—far longer, quite possibly, than our species will exist in those terms of time. Those reaches of time are so great, so timeless, that I see them as another earthly analog of All That Is.
[...] (Such associations also apply to large geological and geographical events, for example, and I wish I had the time and space to go into those!) But if Jane and I, say, as counterparts are exploring certain long-range connections through our own adventures in consciousness, then the consciousnesses of related major events must have much greater abilities and desires for fulfillment. Consider the following group of events as seen through a narrow window of ordinary time; consider the moral, economic, and diplomatic impact they have had—and are still having—upon our own national interests (let alone the interests of other nations). [...]
Man’s focus is equally limited in perception theory, which is a deadly psychological game played by the United States and Russia. [...] Indeed, military leaders in the United States, and evidently in Russia, concur in playing out the illusion of perception theory for their own psychological and political purposes.
(This could be quite important: Several times later during the evening, Jane told me that she felt like she was on her feet, with the safety of the chair close behind her when she wanted to sit down. Very encouraging psychological signs, I said, adding that I hoped they were harbingers of future developments.)
[...] Her head kept dipping down and I kept calling her, and she kept telling me that every time I did so I interrupted her when she was “getting something.” To me it looked as though she was falling asleep each time. [...]
(As far as I can remember, this will be the first time that we held two separate sessions during the same day—if one develops now. [...]
[...] All this time she was so uncomfortable in her chair that I thought she’d pass up the session, although I’d been hoping she’d get at least a little something on herself; I thought we shouldn’t be losing any chances to do so at this time. [...]
[...] At the same time, her neck was so relaxed that her head kept dipping down. I said I felt that her fears were behind much of her hip discomfort, and she had admitted to feelings of fear several times lately—including today when she did her notes. [...]
[...] This I mentioned in particular some time ago (long pause). He feels he is facing the nitty-gritty, determined for a way out, yet still at times he is afraid the worst possibilities will occur instead, and he is suspicious of changes in the body unless they are of obvious improvements. [...]
[...] I went back to working on taxes while Jane talked to him, and at the same time found myself wondering whether his unexpected visit might symbolize one of the very facets of Jane’s dilemma about privacy versus the public life—at least as I understand it: Her vulnerability and availability to anyone who chooses to come here. [...]
(9:47.) You “timed” yourselves—but greater perceptions always appeared in the background of your consciousnesses and in the dream state. It is the great activity of the dream state that allows you, as psychological and physical creatures, to recognize and inhabit the world that you know (louder).
[...] Creatures relied upon inner senses while learning to operate the new, highly specific physical ones that pinpointed perception in time and place. This pinpointing of perception was of vital importance, for with the full arousal of consciousness in flesh, intersections with space and time [had to be] impeccable.
[...] The same to you,” I said, knowing that Seth’s understanding of “time” was certainly much different than ours.)
For some time, in your terms, the sleepwalkers remained more or less at that level of activity, and for many centuries they used the surface of the earth as a kind of background for other activity.Their real life was what you would now call the dreaming one. [...]
[...] The last time Jane spoke before three witnesses was during the 89th session. Since then we have had two witnesses at a time often, however.
You may in a dream experience two or three hours in a flash of physical time. [...] The experience of space and time within the dream universe comes very close to the pure expression of the inner self. [...]
Nor is the self limited by either space nor time, for in dreams you have an actuality that has nothing to do with space nor time, and these dream experiences change and alter your personality, for action must of itself always change. [...]
(Seth repeated several times that we wouldn’t regret this burst of psychic energy, or the time involved, because it meant an increase in Jane’s ability to focus energy. [...]
[...] But in all times there is no boundary, generally speaking, that exists to separate one psychological unit from another. There are differences between psychological units, and you concentrate upon these differences. [...]
It is formed equally by those experiences which are purely subjective, and which exist only within the psychological time framework. [...]
These characteristic responses have been built up through past existences, and because the self is not limited the core can at any time expand and project.
These achievements begin with the simple practice of Psy-Time. [...] It is extremely difficult to use the other Inner Senses without first using Psy-Time, however. In fact some of my students “turned on” their other Inner Senses spontaneously when doing Psy-Time. Some have used Psy-Time to receive information concerning their past lives; in this case, they used many of the Inner Senses together to search out the data they wanted.
[...] Strictly speaking, it isn’t dictation for Mass Events, but Jane and I are presenting portions of it here because Seth discussed events and memory with a different emphasis, and touched upon aspects of reincarnation2 — all subjects that spring out of that ineffable, really undefinable quality he calls simultaneous time. I ask the reader to always keep in mind that no matter what subject he’s discussing, or from what viewpoint, Seth’s kind of “time” underlies all that our present physical senses translate into linear, concrete experience and history. For clarification, I also keep this in mind: Seth isn’t physical, as he defines himself, and that “energy personality essence” seemingly isn’t all that focused on the passage of time — as we are — yet way back in the 14th session for January 8, 1964, he told us that time “is therefore still a reality of some kind to me.” In these notes for Mass Events, I plan to refer to time — all kinds of it — from “time to time.”)
[...] In mid-July our friend Sue Watkins1 began typing the rest of the final manuscript for Psyche; Jane had managed to help me out by finding the time to prepare the first five chapters for the publisher, but since we were both so busy we asked Sue for assistance. [Sue is a writer also, and knows about things like manuscripts.] Then by the time this 806th session came about, Jane estimated that she was practically through with the first handwritten draft of James. [...]
You are used to a time structure, so that you remember something that happened at a particular time in the past. [...]
1. Sue Watkins has been mentioned, and at times quoted, in a number of Jane’s books: The Seth Material, Seth Speaks, Adventures in Consciousness, Psychic Politics, and both volumes of “Unknown” Reality. [...] At this time Sue is working on a novel of her own and co-editing a weekly newspaper in a small town some 50 miles north of Elmira, New York (where Jane and I live).
Your own experiments in psychological time have allowed you, to some extent, to experience within yourselves such unimpeded action. [...]
[...] With these exercises you are familiar, for in your psychological time the self is momentarily in connection with its more extensive portions.
It is advantageous to take our opportunity when possible at such times. [...]
(9:50.) Psychologically, only a massive explosion can free them. [...]
[...] They turned against the idea of violence, and each in his own way recognized the personal psychological ambiguities of their feelings during combat.
[...] Any sense of powerlessness on the part of individual fighting men was given expression as before, this time in a more local blood bath, but the code itself had become shaky. [...]
Another small point here: Christ’s dictum to turn the other cheek (Matthew 5:39, for instance) was a psychologically crafty method of warding off violence — not of accepting it. [...]
[...] But for convenience’s sake, in Seth, Dreams … I bring together certain events in chronological time; I feel that its having been written some time ago makes this book the ideal place for me to discuss Jane’s death, to unite the “past,” the “present,” and the “future’; I regard it as being next in line after Dreams, “Evolution,” and Value Fulfillment, which Prentice-Hall, Inc. [...] I made no leaps in time to write about her physical death, for to me that sad event lay too far in the future — over two and a half years — from the time she finished dictating Dreams, “Evolution,” … in February 1982.
So if I insist that I’ve communicated with Jane at times, then I’m obligated to consider statements from others claiming the same thing. [...] (“Yes, I’m convinced that you have reached Jane, just as I have.”) I’m not contradicting myself when I note that perhaps — and I’ve suspected for a long time that ultimately this is correct — it is true that on some far levels of consciousness and communication that we do not (or even cannot) understand at this “time,” each person who is so inclined to do so has at least touched a Jane who responded clearly enough. [...]
[...] She works part time in the field of education. [...] In fact, at times I found the similarities between the contents of those messages and my ideas of Jane’s own ambience to be striking.
You will join me as I have joined others.
No physical form or physical thought
can express my existence.
The term love, with its message
of caring for another,
is the most important of our
messages in the physical.
Seth Two is to me now what Seth was to you.
I am a step higher but not removed.
Yet, I have changed enough since “my
death” that it is difficult,
at times, to relate to your existence.
The love and the emotions you feel are
the connectives between us.
My love for you has not changed but expanded
in a way you do not comprehend.
Physical needs are for physical beings,
and I understand and know this.
Touch is important at your level.
My new or returned mind loves you more
deeply than in our earth time together,
but it is also much more
understanding of physical need.
When I said, “Be for me as I would
be for thee,” I didn’t mean to limit you.
Be the physical person you need to be,
as you are physical for a limited and
for a purposeful reason.
Enjoy physical reality between others,
for the mind endures and exists
beyond your understanding and existence.
I love you as you were
and as we will be.
Your now is for you to enjoy.
I never judge your actions, and this
I repeat with love and utmost understanding.
Be yourself and in being yourself
you will be for me as I would be for thee.
You do well and I watch you often.
Continue to love physical life
while you are physical.
[...] The thought is a psychological reality, a psychological and psychic identity but not a structured personalized identity. [...]
[...] At other times Ruburt may be projecting so well that his personality is relatively absent, and my projection in his place is relatively (underlined) complete.
It goes without saying that the part that watches also belongs to the self, but it does not belong to the self as the self is thought of in usual psychological terms. [...]
[...] To do so would be psychological suicide.
[...] Volume 2 is a massive book, yet I still couldn’t believe all the time — almost exactly five years — that had passed since Jane, Seth, and I began work on it. When one added the largely overlapping time spent on Volume 1, our temporal investment approached five-and-a-half years. Naturally we’d been involved in a number of other projects at the same time, as I’ve indicated in my notes for Mass Events, yet for me especially the publication of the two volumes of “Unknown” Reality meant that we had arrived at a certain point in the development and presentation of the Seth material: In those books, through correlating them in a modest way with our previous works, I’d attempted to show the reader just what the three of us had managed to achieve before Seth led us into Psyche — and, as it developed, Mass Events.
[...] As I have said before, according to psychology and science, you are a living conglomeration of elements and chemicals, spawned by a universe without purpose, itself accidentally formed, and you are given a life in which all the “primitive and animalistic” drives of your evolutionary past ever lurk within you, awaiting expression and undermining your control.
1. Just before giving the 861st session last week, Jane received from Seth some intriguing material on the idea that in psychological therapy, the good intents and impulses beneath the client’s emotional and physical hassles should be searched out by the analyst. [...]
[...] She laughed as she began, and this accompanied her remarks concerning her practice of psychological time. [...]
I still do suggest the fifteen minute limit that he has adopted for psychological time, until the end of the week. [...]
[...] Jane was this time more fully dissociated, she said. [...] As far as I can recall this is the first time an interruption of this kind has occurred during her dictation.
(The following recent notes are from Jane’s psychological time notebook.
At one time these two were brother and sister. At this time, 1602, in England, the man committed an act which put him greatly in his sister’s debt. [...] It was a time when such cruelty was indeed accepted, and sensitivity was hardly a way of life.
There was difficulty with the left foot at one time. There was at one time difficulty with the forefinger of the left hand.
Death came at one time from a knife wound. The involvement between the two personalities of the man and the woman at this time is a good one, as far as commitments previously in other lives is concerned. [...]
