“Seth material” search engine (Jane Roberts)

(On Wednesday, March 27, we received from Jane’s publisher the page proofs for Seth’s second book, The Nature of Personal Reality: A Seth Book.¹ No session was held that night. Actually, correcting the proofs — carefully scrutinizing well over 500 printed pages word by word, checking and rechecking notes, spelling, punctuation, and so forth — kept us so busy that we suspended the next eight scheduled sessions, covering a period of 26 days. [...] Rich also brought with him contact proofs of photos he took of Jane and me yesterday afternoon.

[...] [With eyes averted, I had to carry my own presents to a closet, where I deposited them until Christmas Eve.] Then late in December the page proofs for Mass Events arrived for our checking. This is the last major stage we’re concerned with before a book is printed, other than okaying routine components like frontmatter proofs—meaning the table of contents, dedications, quotations from Seth and Jane, and so forth—and the index.

As if manufacturing tiny, intensely personal counterparts to those large events, Jane and I finished checking the proofs for God of Jane; she resumed work on her essays, and some new poetry, for If We Live Again; I painted, answered a lot of mail, and helped her continue our private sessions. [...] Any material proof of this sort is extremely difficult, since oftentimes you pick up a generalized picture of coming events, so to speak, and the words that you use are so literal that they cannot convey the whole picture sufficiently enough so that validity can be proven, in your terms. [...] This time complete strangers were involved in an experience that would really satisfy my seemingly endless search for proof after proof.

He was obsessed with statistical proof for the existence of telepathy and clairvoyance, and hoped that we could produce it. [...]

[...] Dear Ruburt, sometimes you are like a dumbskull if not a numbskull, and I will give my own proof in my own good time, and without such flattering but ineffectual help as this.

The validity of this whole material will show clearly through whatever distortions ever arise, and the material itself will provide more and more proof for its statements as we continue. [...]

[...] Surely all of the creativity cited in this note is the “proof of the pudding,” then — evidence of the psyche’s richness and abilities. [...]

You want to make the material workable in your world — a natural and quite understandable desire: The proof is in the pudding, and so forth. [...]

(As for myself, since I mailed the corrected galley proofs for Emir back to Delacorte Press five-and-a-half weeks ago [on April 9], I’ve been keeping up with the new sessions for Mass Events, as well as those on other general subjects and for ourselves. [...]

(Then this noon we received from Prentice-Hall copies of the revised index for Volume 1 of “Unknown,” plus new page proofs of the type chosen for Volume 2—a matter we’d thought already settled. [...]

(The page proofs for Jane’s The World View of Paul Cézanne arrived in the mail from her publisher this morning, and she’s been busy correcting them most of the day since — checking the type for errors in spelling, punctuation, omission, and so forth.)
