“Seth material” search engine (Jane Roberts)

(4:40. After resting in between some pretty good motions, Jane then began her best efforts of the day, with her head and shoulders going side-to-side. Even her arms remained pretty passive, folded across her belly. “Jesus,” Jane said as she rested, “the room got a lot brighter that time.” Evidently numerous exercises could promote relaxation around the eyes, helping her vision.

(3:00. Jane began reading again the session for the day before yesterday, and did pretty well to start. She did very well without the lower teeth, and picked up speed as she went along. Her reading is now consistently much better than it used to be.

(4:34. I asked her if she wanted to give a short session, since it was getting late. But her head started moving, and she started in on some stronger motions, head going from side to side, breathing much noisier, grunts and groans. She lifted her head and shoulders off the bed, while her feet remained pretty quiet. The body chose today to work on the upper portions, evidently.

[...] There was summer and there was famine and there were some pretty bad winters, but we were a success. [...]

([Jane:] “Yes, you’ve only done it at a pretty surface level. [...]

[...] I have a feeling that I was only about 2 years old or other and that they got the kids last, or at least me, and I have the feeling that the house was pretty much on fire. [...]

(A note by R.F.B.: Seth was often pretty outspoken in Mass Events when he discussed our medical beliefs and practices, and the unfortunate results they sometimes bring about. [...]

(“Yes,” I said, for I’d felt my stomach act up pretty strongly several times while Seth had been speaking. [...]

[...] As we talked about it, each from a somewhat different angle, Jane ended up saying the experience seemed pretty “prosaic” after all in retrospect—yet at the time it had been pretty powerful.

[...] “It’s the sort of thing I think is rooted in Sinful-Self stuff, on both of our parts—you’re not going to feel guilty about the gifts of nature unless those feelings have a pretty strong base in the psyche, somewhere.... [...]

[...] “It’s pretty dumb, because I sure as hell don’t get any privacy this way,” she exclaimed — and I thought she was clearing a road, as Seth had suggested last session.

[...] “Well,” she said, “I got pretty damned upset this afternoon, and I’m not comfortable, but maybe if I have a smoke and calm down I can have a brief session. [...]

[...] Eyes pretty good all day. [...]

[...] She had no session from yesterday to read, so went back to the one from day before yesterday—and oddly enough, did pretty well reading that one. [...]

[...] Toes of both feet moving to some extent, although today the right leg has been pretty quiescent. [...]

(That little exchange pretty much sums up our attitudes these days, and Jane’s worsening physical condition. [...]

[...] Her legs and feet moved pretty well.

[...] Then head and shoulders, pretty fair motion. [...]

[...] At Jane’s bidding I touched the spot on her neck that made her head go back and forth pretty strongly against the pillow. [...]

(Jane had a pretty good day today—until we read over some of the late sessions this afternoon, those having to do with her relationship with her mother. [...]

[...] They’d been pretty quiet most of the day—so much so that we had wondered if mama and papa had evacuated their family from that cozy spot.)

[...] One thing that happened was that I was standing an inch or so higher, and I was walking pretty fast—but I was still bent way over, like I was still in my body like that first time this happened. [...]

(At about 8:30 last night, Jane said she’d had a very vivid “experience that was pretty real,” in which for a few seconds she found herself cavorting in very clear and shallow water, feeling really free and enjoying herself greatly. [...]

(I should add that when I realized what the check for the $1,000 meant, I had strange initial feelings of guilt and of rebellion, of being now in a pretty vulnerable position in some strange way, even though the money would help with hospital charges. [...]

(The morning after the above session had been held [on September 30, 1974], I asked Jane to write down what she’d told me at about 1:15 A.M. I remembered her description of it at the time, even though I’d been pretty bleary by then, but I wanted her own version for use here. [...]
