PRACTICE ELEMENT 13

Your alterations of consciousness frequently occur in the dream state, therefore, where it seems to you at least that your experiences do not have any practical application. [...]

[...] Many who make a practice of “denying” negative suggestions from others, asserting positive affirmations instead, actually do so because they are so fully convinced that the power of negative beliefs is stronger than that of beneficial ones.

[...] Her whole nighttime adventure here is a most practical one, and is worthy of an extended study elsewhere.

[...] The following excerpts from her paper show the unity that underlies her daily activities; for she thinks that her own dream experiences, “Unknown” Reality, and The Wonderworks — to use a set of recent examples — are so interrelated that practically speaking it would be futile to try to separate them.

This does indeed mean change at other levels of activity, the Sinful Self not only loosening its hold, but relinquishing some of the energy that it had withheld and repressed, so that the energy becomes available practically speaking for the body’s use once again. [...]

[...] Therefore from the standpoint of the whole personality, the adoption of a new ego, so to speak, with a more practical grouping of unifying principles, could be the best solution of the previous ego, the previously dominant ego, (if it) had been an incapable one.

[...] Dreaming is a practical activity. If it were understood as such, it would be even more practical in your terms.

[...] The dream state, however, involves you with a kind of communication that is not physically practical, for there (intently) no man or woman is caught without a given role; no individual’s ideas in the dream state are limited by his or her cultural background, or physical experience.

[...] You have disconnected it in your thoughts, at least, from your daily experience, so that dreams seem to have no practical application.

[...] I am quite aware that often war seems to be your only practical course, because of the set of beliefs that are, relatively speaking, worldwide. Until you change those beliefs, war will seem to have some practical value — a value which is highly deceptive, and quite false.

[...] I am aware that the death penalty often seems to be a practical solution — and indeed many murderers want to die, and are caught because of their need for punishment. [...]

[...] It is often used spontaneously when Psy-Time is practiced.

It is vital, again, that both of you trust that healing process and not hamper healing’s creativity by tying it to any given day’s practical experience. [...]

The feel and practice of these exercises are their important points — the manipulation of a creative consciousness. You exist outside of your present context, but such statements are meaningless, practically speaking, unless you give yourself some freedom to experience events outside of that rigid framework. [...] Many dreams do activate the brain in a ghostly fashion, sparking responses that are not practically pertinent in ordinary terms. [...]

[...] Dreams provide consciousness with its own creative play, therefore, when it need not be so practical or so “mundane,” allowing it to use its innate characteristics more freely.

This problem-solving aspect of dreams is rather important, and can be utilized with rather impressive practical results. [...] With practice dream activities can also be directed in this direction.

(Jane has been practicing psychological time regularly, but reports that she has achieved little besides her usual excellent state. [...]

[...] Practically however this does not appear to be of benefit, nor does it seem to occur.

[...] Practically speaking, however, the species accepts certain portions of dream reality as its so-called real events at any particular time, and about those specialized events it forms its “current” civilizations. [...] But in the dream state, then as now, all such issues were contemporary, acting as models from which the species then chose the practical events that formed its physical experience.

[...] In your world, conventional and practical sanity and physical manipulation are dependent upon your ability to discriminate, accepting as real only those events with which others more or less agree.

I am speaking in highly practical terms. [...]

On the contrary, an understanding of the rule of expectation is the one truly practical step you can take whenever any change in physical circumstances is desired. [...]

[...] In practical terms, it is very important to understand that such knowledge and protection do exist, that all of your problems need not be solved through conscious reasoning alone—and, indeed, few problems can be solved exclusively (underlined) in that fashion.
