But identity is much more than this, and basic identity, while using the perceptive abilities, is not that dependent upon them. It is true that the personality is a gestalt, and that every identity has any number of potential egos. It is also true that on occasion one potential ego will take over from another. But this is all highly simplified, for the ego structure is not one thing, but a changing, never constant, actually quite informal grouping of psychological patterns. Each ego uses and interprets the organism’s perceiving apparatus in a way that in the overall is characteristic and distinctive.

It has its own possibilities of development and achievement. This should not be forgotten, and all potential egos have, also, their own possibilities. The inner self or identity must express itself through its ego in order to manipulate within physical reality. The inner self is composed of all the potential egos that compose it, but it is more than the sum of these.

Now these potential egos, you see, made up of various potentials and needs and abilities, these pooled resources that belong to the inner identity, did not simply spring into existence. They are the result of psychological experience gained in past lives.

These potential egos at one time or another will have their chance, as dominant egos, in this existence or in another reincarnation. They represent the overall potentials of the whole identity in respect to physical existence. The identity has in other words latent abilities which it will not use within the physical system, but all of the latent ability ever available lies within the original identity.

The potentials of the true self are so multidimensional that they cannot be expressed in one space or time. Any person who loves another recognizes the infinite potential within that other person. That potential needs infinite opportunity; the true self’s reality needs an ever-new, changing situation, for each experience enriches it and, therefore, enhances its own possibilities. [...] Mama and Papa, in our analogy, represent the infinite potential within one basic unit (CU) of consciousness.

Then think of your ancestors, your immediate family, and your children, and sense in them the vast potential that is there. [...]

[...] The paintings that you will paint do exist, because you have in one sense the potential to create them. (Jane again lay down.) They exist in potential form. [...]

The paintings already exist however as definite potential forms, already created by your whole self. [...]

Within the self that you know there are countless combinations of selves that you do not admit, and in other layers of probable realities these selves have their say and live out their potential. They are sleeping within you in this reality, but in those realities you are sleeping within them as latent potential. [...]

Now the trees that you see outside the window you see simply as trees because you perceive them only through the physical viewpoint, and yet even these trees have potential abilities and potential combinations of consciousness that you do not perceive and that exists in other probable realities. The message was “Do not condemn yourself or others,” for Christ well knew that self-righteous condemnation of the self or of one’s neighbors served to darken the door through which man might view his own potential and its greater source.

The words “Let thy will be done,” represented excellent psychological understanding, for according to Christ’s teachings as originally given, God the father represented the source or parent of the self, who was by nature free from the self’s ignorance or lack of understanding at any given time, and who would know better than the known self those experiences that would fulfill the self’s hopes, dreams, and potentials.

There, all of nature’s true potentials lie ready to be actualized according to the circumstances and conditions, the needs and desires, of the natural creature in Framework 1. The true potentials of nature are hardly suspected in most areas.

Since the nature of Framework 1 constantly flows into it from Framework 2, then Framework 2 is responsible for the shapes, forms, the behavior, the potentials of nature as you know it. [...]

If life has such great potentials, as Seth maintains, if it began—and begins (and continues to begin) at such rich creative and productive levels—then why did our experience so often make it seem that we struggled against unknowing or uncaring cosmic forces, or that we were at the most so ignorant of our own source and creativity that our hands were tied, or that we were forever shut off from our natural heritage?

[...] For now I understood that freedom of motion was at least one true reflection of an individual’s creative potential.
