Last night in bed all through the night off and on I had the following hard-to-explain but welcome experience. First, after just half asleep I suddenly knew how to turn over in a particular easy way that didn’t hurt nearly as much as usual. Then sometime later I realized I’d been very comfortable, sleeping great, but was now getting sore again—hips in particular, and arms. Then I became disoriented, and couldn’t figure out if I was in bed or in my chair. Realized I was in bed, in a particular position and making certain motions that were self-conflicting, leading to the discomfort; and that I was in this position because I thought I’d done something wrong that somehow necessitated the position. Guilt was involved. At the same time almost I realized quite clearly that I’d made a mistake; I hadn’t done anything wrong and the position was needless. And at once my physical discomfort vanished. This same process—with different positions in bed—happened four or five times, each time with the discomfort vanishing just about instantly. (AM. I’m quite uncomfortable though.)
[...] This one (Rachel) feels utterly dependent upon the position in which she spends her days and, therefore, it has primary importance. Vera’s attitude is different and, therefore she will not take one organ or position of the body and so strongly use it as a symbol. [...] This is a tangent to your own position also. [...] You need to realize that you are (Vera) completely free to so change your position. [...]
—you must have the feeling that you are free to quit the job and the faith that other positions will be available to you. Your feeling is based upon the fear that you will not find another position. When you realize that other positions are open to you, if you believe that they are, then you are free to choose. [...]
Another will take his place amid bargaining and some positioning. You will hold your position, that is, it will not be weakened. [...]
[...] These three men however may instead be closely connected with your own prospects, but if so the position of the third man, given up to now as you, is as I have given it; and if he is not you then his position parallels your own strongly.
The two stronger men now at two points of the triangle will overpower the strength of the man who has been at the main position. I have been seeing the triangle with the man with the strongest position at the top or apex. [...]
[...] You will end up if you persist, and I imagine you will persist, first in either a position as fourth man down from the top, or in four positions up from where you are.
(11:19.) On Ruburt: the right side, generally speaking, has released itself enough, and become practically dependable enough in new positions, now, to allow the first important releases of large muscle areas on the left side. [...]
[...] Certain positions, habitual in the hip areas, had to be maintained earlier while the knees began to loosen. [...]
He is beyond the point, however, of unpredictability, as when he could not tell when the right leg would hold or not in any position. [...]
[...] This physical matter on your plane we will call positive matter. To the field of negative matter, your positive matter would be termed negative. Obviously we have much material to cover, positive and negative. [...]
[...] The sharpness or rigidity or quality of the perceived material depends on the energy which forms it, and the characteristics of matter therefore depend upon the position of the energy that fills the pattern; but by position, I think in terms of the arrival and departure of this energy as it passes through your field.
[...] Alone, each negative interval may be negligible, but taken en masse this adds up until there is as much negative matter as there is positive matter.
The seeming, and for practical purposes, repulsion of so-called positive and negative matter will be explained in another session, as if I begin to develop upon this now, you will end up with a longer session, not a short one.
You are constantly in the position of saying to the body “In the face of what we want, your improvement, whatever it might be, is not only not enough, but almost a parody in the light of normal walking.” In terms of behavior, neither of you reinforce positive behavior in terms of any improvement. [...]
[...] These ligaments control arm motions, head movement, and have been in those terms largely responsible for holding Ruburt in this position, topwise.
[...] They were not in the old locked position, and he was beginning to enlarge his peripheral vision, which though he did not know it, had previously been limited by the head motion. [...]
Remember that your present reality is the result of years of positive and negative thought patterns. [...]
Realize that each time you replace a negative thought or feeling by a positive one, this is like making a correction in a painting. [...]
[...] Therefore know that your positive ideas of health and abundance are the basic realities, the most important.
[...] There is, in fact—though in a bent-over position—some considerable improvement and coordination in walking, as far as legs and arms are concerned. This does not show up yet when he is trying to walk in a taller position—but the improvement in the arm span will also help him there. [...]
(Notes: Today Jane called Tam about the continuing hassles over the disclaimer for Mass Events, and learned several important things—among them that the legal department is now “drafting” a letter to us, explaining their position in the matter. [...]
[...] They relax further than his usual chair position allows, begin to stretch, call for added circulation, which they receive. [...]
(Long pause.) You have been given no guidelines, however, that allow you to trust those healing capacities, from your society, so you are still in the position of dropping negative habits, fears of the body, and so forth, piled up through years of misunderstanding. [...]
The order of value descends in direct proportion (Jane’s tone was very puzzled, eyes open), to the order of ascension on the positive side. (Then she added: ) This is to make that clearer; talking about negative and positive values, and on the negative side the value descends in direct proportion to the order of ascension on the positive side.
[...] The minus numbers mask integers that have a positive meaning or action (pause), and take on the tasks ordinarily assigned in this dimension to the positive ones.
The positions of the values above and below ... [...]
(For some reason Jane then told me I didn’t have to put this down, but I did so anyway: ) The order of the integers on the negative side descends in direct proportion to the order of ascension of integers on the positive side. [...]
Ruburt’s own abilities he considered represented even the furthest reaches of the creative realm, therefore putting him in twice as inferior a position. In the light of your beliefs, the better you considered your own works, the worse your position in society, and your opinion of your fellow men: the better the creator, the worse his social position, the greater the ridicule.
[...] Instead, of course, he felt in such a position before the symptoms showed—as each of you felt, and were convinced in black-and-white fashion, that creative people were misunderstood, held in inferior position in the world, and were generally considered oddballs.
(After the session I told Jane that my concern wasn’t so much with meeting important people, as that their interest in what we do would imply some sort of acceptance or understanding on the parts of those who occupy dominant positions in society, the arts, or whatever. And I think we are well aware that many of the young people we do hear from will occupy those positions of power in tomorrow’s world. [...]
Now: let me clarify your positions for you.
[...] Ruburt is offered a rather lucrative and fairly prestigious position. [...] Ruburt knew he could gain sufficient-enough prestige by using his abilities in other directions; by being, say, a director of a gallery, or by accepting any of a number of positions, such as teaching, that had been offered him in the past.
[...] Jane’s dreams have been vivid and positive for the most part, concerning physical improvements, etc. [...]
And in the past, he toyed with some of those ideas and positions. [...]
It is not true, however, that positive and negative feelings and beliefs “take” there with equal vitality. It is true that your beliefs form your reality; however you do have a certain leeway, in that those desires that lead to fulfillment and positive creativity are more in keeping with the natural leanings of Framework 2 itself.
[...] Energy is a positive force, ever-inclining toward creativity and fulfillment.
[...] Once you allow your faith to take some root, then you yield far more than you sow in Framework 2, and in results in Framework 1. Positively, you see that kind of acceleration in Ruburt’s work, and if you give yourselves a chance you will see it also as far as Ruburt’s physical condition is concerned. [...]
It is somewhat for this reason that you do not more actively (underlined) use the positive encouragement of which Ruburt was earlier speaking. You feel you are helping him sufficiently enough through all your efforts, and withhold this more positive approach out of that resentment. [...]
Now I want you, in the same way, to picture his arms straight in normal position, and follow the same procedure. [...]
This also serves to punish you for the resentment, since by not giving this more positive support, which incidentally is far more effective than you would imagine—you also to some degree help to hold back that which you both want so badly.
A negative thought alone would be followed by a more positive one. [...] It is only when strong negative patterns are allowed to flow unrestrained and indulged in so that they become a barrier holding back positive thoughts that you run into difficulty. You get into a habit and you do not realize that you have done so, where predominately your thoughts about yourselves and others are all negative with very few positive ones in between and then the positive ones have no chance to grow. [...]
[...] If, however, your conscious thought patterns are positive, then your dream patterns will also be the same. [...]
(Brad—asking about positive attitudes in terms of his own problems.)
[...] When you learn to create a positive reality for yourself then you will be able to help someone else create one. [...]
You will accept your present position, whatever it is, as being a part of that direction, and realize that from it can come all the creative elements that you need. [...]
[...] If you discover that you feel unworthy, then do not simply try to apply a more positive belief over that one. [...]
[...] Then use the positive suggestion in your own worth, backed up by your own personal self-examination. [...]
[...] Do not tell yourself automatically that they are wrong, however, and then try to apply a “positive” belief like a bandaid.
With Ruburt’s limited vocabulary, this is rather difficult to explain, but it would be as if the positions of your north and south poles changed constantly while maintaining the same relative distance from each other, and by their change in polarity upsetting the stability (pause) of the planet—except that because of the greater comparative strength at the poles of the units (gestures, attempts to draw diagrams in the air), a newer stability is almost immediately achieved after each shifting. [...]
[...] The “nucleus”—now using a cell analogy—if these units were cells, which they are not, then it would be as if the nucleus were constantly changing position, flying off in all directions, dragging the rest of the cell along with it. [...]
[...] The three-sided effect, instantly formed, leads to an effect that is something like friction, but the effect causes (more gestures) the three sides to change position, so that you end up with a triangular effect, closed, with the initial point inside the triangle. [...]
[...] Certain intensities and certain positions of polarity between and among the units and great groupings of the units compress energy into solid form (resulting in matter). The emotional energy within the units is obviously the motivating factor, and you can see, then, why emotional energy can indeed shatter a physical object. [...]
[...] I noted this position and watched her closely to see if she changed the envelope’s position as the experiment continued.)
[...] She held it in the same position as noted before, the small dimensions parallel to the floor. She hadn’t changed its position by idly turning it, for example.) Both inside, but just an oval shape. [...]
[...] This gave me enough time to once again see that she held the envelope in the same position relative to the floor. [...]
[...] He acts to some degree also with positive aggressiveness in class. [...] The positive aggression is important.
[...] I do not want positive suggestions just slipped on like bandages, leaving the fears unreleased or unrecognized. The positive suggestions are extremely important. [...]
[...] Practically this is of great importance for it will help break the repressive habit on the one hand, and help end blockages that have been holding back positive and healthy charges of activity. [...]
He feels an inferior member of a family, but in a superior position as a teacher, and his fear of being anonymous in a group, or swept up by it, when he is not in control of it, results from these family feelings of a group, and fear of being swept along by emotion.
