You are aware of the selves that sit in this room on a particular evening of a snowstorm with certain members of the class present, certain members of the class absent, and some new people here, but I am familiar with the inner portions of yourselves that you also know but that the egotistical self has hidden from you. Some were, but at much later dates, and portions exist underground and in caves — in Australia, parts of Africa, and in one area of the Pyrenees.

[...] In your terms, by the time an individual is in his last physical life (pause), all portions of the personality are then familiar with it at the time of death. [...]

The conscious physically oriented portions of the self become acquainted with the inner information. [...]

[...] And in dreams and in intuitions and unspoken thoughts, the individual comes to terms with the whole self, of which it is merely one portion, and not necessarily the dominant portion.

The dream objects are not randomly chosen, but only those are chosen which will be significant to the many layers of the self, according to the need or according to that part of the subconscious area which is to be instructed; that is, the portion which is directly a participant in the dream activities, and which plays out the dream drama while other parts of the self observe.

[...] The ego, the conscious ego, the so-called conscious self, is only the front man in the front lines, supported by multitudinous areas or portions of himself that he does not know, and whose messages come to him only through the correspondence of dreams.

Sue represents a certain portion of Ruburt — the writing self, signifying that the “psychic” portions of Ruburt’s personality were helping out the writing portions, and letting them share in the psychic knowledge and experience.

(Long pause.) So far, there has been an overreliance upon, say, objectified science, and a repudiation of the intuitive portions of the self. This leads in some cases, then, to an exaggerated repudiation of objective reasoning, and to the alliance of a fundamental kind of religion with the intuitive portions of the self. [...]

All portions of Ruburt’s body are gently and almost constantly being stretched and then exercised in the best possible order. [...] The constant activity however prepares the body for normal walking, and exercises necessary portions, then stretches them further, so that while Ruburt is not walking more noticeably upright, he is indeed taller, particularly when standing; different portions are exercised when he is sitting or standing, so that each change can be counted upon for the next alteration in posture.

The upper portions of the body, particularly important, are also lengthening the arms and releasing shoulder ligaments for greater motion. [...]

You perceive portions of such actions consciously, some subconsciously, some with the inner senses, but you do not perceive the whole action. Your perceptions, your physical perceptions, cut a good bit of the portion that you could receive into bits and pieces. [...]

I want to stress some points mentioned in our last session, to the effect in particular that you perceive only a small portion of any given action even when that action has some of its origins within your own physical field.
