There is an old, unfortunate idea, and I am sure by now you are above it and it is, that in order to be pious you must work very hard and be extremely dignified. And the harder you work and the harder it becomes, the more sure you are that to be pious must be a great thing. So if you have not dismissed the idea then at least kick it about a bit.
