(To me again:) Your birth (in 1919) coincided with the birth of your mother’s child in that other reality, hence her stronger feelings toward you. Your birth, and that of your youngest brother (Richard) were highly charged for her — yours for the reasons just given, and your brother’s because it represented the time of your mother’s hysterectomy in that other reality. In this reality, Richard’s birth represented your father’s final attempt to deal with emotional reality. [...]

From the 12th session for January 2, 1964: “I have more senses, so to speak, in operating use … than you have, because not only am I aware of my own plane [or reality], but of yours and other parallel planes, even though I myself have not existed in some of those others …” And: “There are certain environments that I cannot glimpse from my viewpoint, although I have greater understanding of these things than you. [...]

[...] Ruburt’s mystical nature was such a strong portion of the entire identity that in his present reality, and in the probable reality chosen — as mentioned when I discussed this picture (of Jane) — the mystic impulses and expressions were given play. Intersections with probable realities occur when one psychic grouping intensifies to a certain point, so that fulfillment as a self results.

Behind the camouflage true reality exists. [...]

[...] I do not do anything in the terms to which you refer, and my activities parallel your own only in a very slight manner. [...]

[...] In various ways you have struggled with psychic realities; and Mark and Roarck are also involved with practical considerations involving women, as earlier Ruburt was involved with her Walter, and you, Joseph, were also involved.

[...] My actual thoughts would closely parallel this dialogue.

When I speak of the subconscious in this manner, I speak of course of that larger portion which deals with the inner realities. I want to give you more detailed information about the inner realities themselves. Actually they do not parallel the outer senses, and this will sound appalling to you I’m afraid, simply because there is nothing to be seen, smelled, heard or touched in the manner in which you are accustomed. [...] The inner senses, my dear Joseph, are senses which deal with realities beneath camouflage patterns, and which carry data of these realities, these inner realities, to the body. [...]

[...] For those interested in inner reality the inner senses can be utilized, of course, to explore and perceive portions of this inner reality; and the inner reality is after all what you are after.

As the outer senses of sight, sound and smell appear to reach outward, bringing data to the physical body from an outside observable camouflage pattern, so the inside senses seem to extend far inward, bringing important inner reality data to the physical body. [...]

(Jane had declared before the session began tonight that she thought Seth would go into our house affairs in connection with probable realities, but that such material wouldn’t go with his book dictation on the families of consciousness. I facetiously replied that if the information didn’t fit into “Unknown” Reality we’d “force it to.” [...] Anything on our house hunting, I thought, would be welcome here because it would help unite these late sessions for “Unknown” Reality with some of its much earlier ones [in Volume 1, as it turned out]. [...] She wrote recently: “We regard Seth’s material on counterparts and families of consciousness as excellent explanations — as thematic frameworks that help us perceive and organize facets of our greater reality that are ignored by conventional academic disciplines. Seth’s explanations stand for aspects of reality that usually escape us.

(Sue’s note intrigued me anew: After class I promised her that not only would I search our files about Grunaargh, but that with Seth’s help Jane and I would eventually get more information on that family, and present it somewhere in the notes for “Unknown” Reality. [...]

The first (in Sayre), mentioned far earlier in “Unknown” Reality, you thought was definitely sold, and today you discovered that the sale was not that final.¹⁰ As you discussed these issues a rather important main point escaped your minds: The man who owned the first house (Mr. Markle) was a dealer in antiques and precious stones, utterly devoted to his work and engrossed in it, considering it his art. [...] Actually the relationship in question, while called a reincarnational one, is a parallel one to our own. [...]

[...] He would have gone, and has gone, to considerable lengths to allow you to freely begin to express your emotional reality to him.

Every thought therefore has this kind of reality, which is the only reality, basically speaking. (Long pause.) Sense data itself has a reality independent of any given object. [...]

Reality changes its form in order to become known to itself. [...] Each consciousness then perceives reality in a different fashion. [...] But the mental or psychic energy behind all this is the one basic reality.

[...] The idea of mental image has its own reality, and is charged with energy, and this energy can never be withdrawn. [...]

[...] You can only perceive large areas of reality data however by transforming it into terms that can be picked up by the physical senses.

[...] As Seth says, we each do create our own reality.

(Long pause.) He felt it his duty to examine his psychic material with supercritical force, since it seemed to come from the other side of consciousness, so to speak, and since it presented such a different picture of all aspects of reality. [...]

[...] In a way the symptoms were almost a method of presentation that in another fashion completely paralleled your own notes (an excellent point). [...]

[...] It was not necessary for Ruburt to see the form again—merely to sense the reality of that powerful energy, and realize that it worked on his behalf. [...]

[...] Intuitively, I felt that more is involved here than questions of camouflage and protection—that at the very least there must be connections between Billy and his colors in this reality and his source in a nonphysical one.⁴

[...] It’s an excellent point, I said, that in her ability to tap into a seemingly endless amount of Seth material, she strikes a parallel with early man and his capacity to carry all personal, cultural, and historical information within himself. [...]

Yet when I am finished, I hope you will discover that the known reality is even more precious, more ‘real,’ because you will find it illuminated both within and without by the rich fabric of an ‘unknown’ reality now seen emerging from the most intimate portions of daily life…. [...] Your psychologies do not explain your own reality to you. [...] Your religions do not explain your greater reality, and your sciences leave you just as ignorant about the nature of the universe in which you dwell.

Section 2: “Parallel Man, Alternate Man, and Probable Man: The Reflection of These in the Present, Private Psyche. Your Multidimensional Reality in the Now of Your Being” — Eight sessions dealing with the vast unknown origin of our species in a psychological past that by contrast makes evolutionary time look like yesterday.

“In Seth Speaks I tried to describe certain extensions of your own reality in terms that my readers could understand. In The Nature of Personal Reality, I tried to extend the boundaries of individual existence as it is usually experienced … to give the reader hints that would increase practical, spiritual and physical enjoyment and fulfillment in daily life. [...] In ‘Unknown’ Reality I went further, showing how the experiences of the psyche splash outward into the daylight, so to speak. [...] ‘Unknown’ Reality required much more work on Joseph’s part, and that additional effort in itself was a demonstration that the psyche’s events are very difficult to pin down in time. [...]

“These institutions and disciplines are composed of individuals, each restrained by limiting ideas about their own private reality; and so it is with private reality that we will begin and always return. [...] The ideas in this book are meant to expand the private reality of each reader. [...]

Basic reality is not a chaos. [...] These personality structures are like you a portion of basic reality, or All That Is. [...]

[...] They organize the basic ground reality into many patterns, and then operate and manipulate within them.

[...] Late that month — unbelievably to me — I finished my own work on Volume 2 of “Unknown” Reality, and immediately began to type the final draft of the sessions; as I finished groups of sessions I mailed them to Tam every few days, while at the same time collaborating with Jane on the table of contents for the book. [...] If you believe that you do indeed form your own reality, then you instantly come up against a whole new group of questions. [...] You create your own reality, or it is created for you. [...]

[...] On December 7 the copyedited manuscript for Volume 2 of “Unknown” Reality came; it’s more than 900 pages long, and painstakingly checking every word on every page of that book kept us busy until Christmas Eve; I mailed it to Tam on December 26. [...]

(“In an important fashion those private sessions parallel his material for Mass Events … material that did make us view the world and current events quite differently than we had earlier. [...]

[...] Now each of these selves experience time in their own manner, and as you should see by now this only means that they build their own realities according to the nature of their own perceptions. [...] Their various realities merge in the overall perceptions of the whole self.

[...] However past, present and future has reality only to the ego. [...] The portion of the self, or rather the portions of the self, that experience action in terms of what the ego would term probability, is further divorced from the ego, however, and this probability reality appears to the ego very rarely, and only very occasionally.

[...] The data contained in the leaflet closely paralleled the dream; therefore Jane was quite pleased to discover stacks of these leaflets at the motor vehicle bureau. [...]

[...] Other portions of the self, that deal in what you would call probable realities, are very different in their psychological makeup.

I want to give you more detailed information about inner realities themselves. Actually, they do not parallel the outer senses; and this will sound appalling to you, I’m afraid, simply because there is nothing to be seen, heard or touched in the manner in which you are accustomed. [...]

[...] The inner senses deal with realities beneath camouflage … and deliver inner information. [...] The painting, however, achieves a certain freedom from camouflage, although it cannot escape it, and actually hovers between realities in a way that no thoroughly camouflaged object could do. [...]

[...] “Sometimes I feel like an explorer, mapping out paths to an ancient forgotten dimension of reality. [...]

Seth says that the physical body and its senses are specialized equipment to allow us to live in physical reality. To perceive other realities, we have to use the Inner Senses—methods of perception that belong to the inner self and operate whether or not we have a physical form. [...] Other realities are also camouflage systems, and within them consciousness also has specialized equipment tailored to their peculiar characteristics. [...]

[...] This communication goes on constantly, but your ego is so focused upon physical reality and survival within it that you do not hear the inner voice. [...] What you see in a mirror is but a dim reflection of your true reality.

[...] You will find the ways and means by which the inner self, existing in the climate of psychological reality, helps create the various planes of existence, constructs outer senses to project and perceive these, and the ways by which reincarnations take place within various systems. Here you will find your own answers as to how the inner self transforms energy for its own purposes, changes its form, and adopts other realities.”

[...] What Seth is saying is that each of us can reach the inner self, that the Inner Senses help us to perceive other than three-dimensional reality, and that we can get to this knowledge with determination and training. [...] The physical senses help us to perceive the exterior reality that we know. [...]

[...] “Ruburt’s range is an excellent one, and the plane of reality in which I have my existence is far beyond those to which persons in the physical system usually have access. [...] This [kind of material] has its purposes, and it does do some good, explaining reality in terms that people can understand, for the props and fantasies are familiar ones. [...] He continued, suggesting that I stay away from books that “deal exclusively with conventional religious subjects, interpreting reality in those limited terms.”

[...] As words would give small hint of the reality of color or sound to someone who did not experience these, so words can only give insight into the nature of reality. [...]

[...] “I am more, however, than this portion of me that you contact, for it is only one portion of me that experienced that reality. It is highly important, then, that this material not be distorted, for most communications take place on far different levels than this—[levels] so closely connected with your own system that even the most ‘undistorted’ data is highly distorted because the communicators themselves do not realize that they create the realities which they then describe.

[...] We adopt whatever personality characteristics seem pertinent, for in our own reality we have a bank of complete inner selves, and we are all Seth. We attempt to translate realities into terms that you can comprehend. [...]

In all of these areas expectations bring about physical reality.

[...] Realize however that it is up to you in which areas of reality you concentrate.

[...] There are great parallel existences now occurring, always occurring, all taking place within the area of physical activity. [...]

(Just as I had some small psychic adventures during our time off from “Unknown” Reality, Jane did too. [...] During the night following the arrival of that first copy of Personal Reality, while lying quietly beside me in an altered state of consciousness, Jane received information of how “the ancients paralyzed the air.” [...] At the breakfast table, I told her I thought the material was connected to the sessions in Personal Reality on the interior sound, light, and electromagnetic values “around or from which” the physical image forms. [...]

[...] In the same way, the private psyche contains within it hints and glimpses of other alternate realities. [...] Such secondary systems can tell you much about the potentials of human reality, those that are latent but can at any time be “raised” to primary importance. [...]

In some of their own private dreams, many of my readers will have discovered a reality quite as vivid as the normal one, and sometimes more so. [...] In systems different from your own, there are realities in which physical organisms are activated after what would seem to you to be centuries of inactivity¹² — again, when the conditions are right. [...]

The unknown reality: Much of that reality is unknown simply because your beliefs close you off from your own knowledge. [...]

(We also discussed the parallels — and differences — revolving around Jane’s perception of the James book this week and her development eight months ago of the outline and chapter headings for the possible book The Way Toward Health. [...] [See appendixes 7 and 11 in Volume 1 of “Unknown” Reality.] Jane hasn’t taken the time to concentrate upon either of those projects, interesting as they are, although she would if one — or both — of them “caught fire” for her. [...]

To do this, Ruburt had to be free enough to accept the view of reality as perceived by someone else. To accomplish this, Ruburt allowed one portion of his consciousness to remain securely anchored in its own reality while letting another portion soak up, so to speak, a reality not its own.

[...] This section [of “Unknown” Reality] deals with the various exercises that will, I hope, provide you with your own intimate glimpses into previously unknown realities.

[...] The unknown reality is unknown only because you believe it must be hidden. Once that belief is annihilated, the other quite-as-legitimate views of reality can appear to your consciousness, and worlds just as valid as your own swim into view.

[...] The book was his spiritual and intellectual battleground (the dream book), and this was paralleled by the physical symptoms; the physical battlefield. [...]

There are many ways in which my reality is made known here. [...]
