(In a most amused way the personality said he and the others did not think much of our fumblings around with various tests this evening. [...] The group was “interested” in watching our progress with Seth. [...]

And I answer them, also, out of politeness, and also because parts of the answers will add to some of our own discussions.

In these terms, and giving the simplest explanation since your friend is not well acquainted with our previous discussions, my last growing-up period occurred in Denmark, in the same approximate period as the one given previously for a previous life of your own, Joseph, and of Ruburt’s.

[...] Each of us has our own defenses against negative suggestions, and we should trust in our own immunity. [...]

[...] What we are supposed to do, then, is change our mental attitude, search ourselves for the inner problem represented by the symptoms, and measure our progress as the symptoms subside.

According to Seth, during our reincarnational existences we are to realize that we project our thoughts and emotions outward to form reality. [...]

[...] We have put his concepts to work in our own lives, and sometimes both of us wonder how we managed daily life before we understood the close relationship between thoughts, emotions, and health.

I still haven’t gone completely into our fifth dimension discussion, but I am rounding out our imaginary structural universe in such a way that the fifth dimension material will fit in almost effortlessly when the time comes. [...]

(Malba said it takes time to prepare for a seance, 15 minutes at least in relaxation before; a black cloth on our table reaching to the floor would help, as well as drapes on the upper half of our windows, to cover the white Venetian blinds. [...]

(According to her, ectoplasm formed the various changes and materializations about my hand in our previous seance with Bill Macdonnel. [...] She said that the way Rob and I work together, we need both of us to succeed, and that our channels were open before the session. [...]

[...] We have been preparing ourselves for this since before our marriage nine years ago, but marriage reinforced our energies. [...]

[...] It was raging stronger than ever as we sat for the session at 9:15; drifts were piled several feet high against the northern side of the house, and against our new screened-in back porch facing the west. [...]

[...] Seth came through with some very interesting material on the relationship involving the three of us, as well as the communication between his reality and ours. [...]

[...] Our house on the hill is so well-insulated that we heard the weather’s assaults as though from a great distance, except for an occasional sharp clatter from one of the metal window awnings as its slats vibrated in a blast of icy wind. [...]

[...] Yet for our sessions I must synchronize many activities, so that on some occasions I am with you, and I am also involved elsewhere.

[...] A friend of ours who lives in our apartment house knows the two dancers, who live together in the neighborhood. [...]

(An unscheduled session was held on Friday evening, December 3,1965, in our apartment. [...]

[...] For the test object I used part of one of the paper napkins Jane and I were given when we varied our routine prior to the 213th session, and visited a local discotheque for a beer. [...]

(Tonight’s session was held in our back room, and was a quiet one. [...]

[...] Mornings I spent on my ESP book, writing up the results of our experiments. We still hadn’t told anyone what we were doing, except our friend, Bill. In fact few of our friends even knew what we were up to until the book was out. [...] We had enough of our own to consider.

[...] Our imaginary wires composed of solidified vitality are fluid, I hope you understand this, even while they are solidified. [...]

[...] The immediacy of our sessions would be enhanced if more of my personality could come through. [...]

[...] Seth was also to say later that this past relationship was partially responsible for our communications.

This afternoon we had a long discussion about the conflicts we often feel between our natural desires for creative privacy and the fact that our works go out into the world. Each of us has a strong sense of responsibility toward those who read our books. [...]

Over the past year or so I’d become more and more concerned about what I could do if a nighttime emergency—like a fire—trapped Jane and me in our bedroom. Because of the conventional ranch-style floor plan of the hill house, our bedroom is isolated from the front and back doors; we reach it at the end of a hall opening off the living room. [...]

[...] With more than a little wry humor over what I considered to be a failure of belief on my part, I took action: Late in July I had a contractor, who is a friend of ours and well acquainted with Jane’s situation, install a heavy outside door in a bedroom wall, and construct the necessary step to the ground. [...] I had our friend position smoke alarms throughout the house.

Now: I bid you good evening, and our friend (Sue). I would have some interesting comments to make regarding the relationships between you, but we must be up and about with our Appendix, and so we will continue that. [...]

(Seth actually made an elaborately humorous request for the dash in the last sentence: Jane, her eyes very dark, leaned far forward over our coffee table and spoke to me in a soft voice.)

Now: Our friend Sue’s observations came very close to an excellent description of Ruburt’s subjective feelings, as he told you during break.

In the following chapter I hope to give you an idea, quite simply, of our existence, the work in which we are involved, the dimension in which we exist, the purposes that we hold dear; and most of all, of those concerns that make up our experience.

I will try to begin work on our book in a more predictable fashion, while still maintaining our own discussions, and answering any questions you may have. I do want to use our Framework 2 material, however, in a more general fashion for the book.³ You may use any of our [other] material you want, but the book itself will not rely upon that information.

(While we’ve been busy with our endeavors, the shortening, brilliantly colored and often warm days of October passed into November and turned progressively colder through the month; we’ve already had more than a little snow since Thanksgiving; and now in a few days [about December 22] winter will officially arrive. I’ve raked leaves, stacked wood in the garage, installed storm windows, and made sure our hill house is otherwise all set for cold weather.

The book should cover your version of our joint experience — your own philosophical explanation of it, the questions it arouses within your own mind, your observations of Ruburt as Jane and in our trance states. [...]

[...] Then, as Jane told me about all of this, she announced that Seth was coming through right away — a most unusual procedure as far as our regular sessions are concerned. [...]

[...] She pointed over her right shoulder to where the painting — which is reproduced in The Seth Material — hangs on our living room wall just in back of her rocker.

[...] Then this afternoon she picked up from Seth that in a new chapter he’d explain how physical deformities are, among other things, manifestations of the great range of abilities encompassed within our species’ genetic pool, and that we retain such flexibility in case wide changes are ever needed. She added that our genetic requirements are also linked to our reincarnational patterns. The attributes that can result in the supposedly handicapped, then, are needed to keep our species adaptable in many, and often unexpected, ways. [...]

[...] In back of her and off to her right, our cats, Billy and Mitzi, were crouching in the light cast on the rug by one of our homemade lamps from its position on a low bookcase: An insect, seemingly mesmerized by the illumination, was flying round and round inside the bright cone of the lampshade. [...] So with the help of our editor, Tam Mossman, and others at Prentice-Hall, the decision was made to publish Dreams in two volumes. [...]

[...] This permits us to use more energy for our purposes in our sessions.

(According to Seth then, Jane and I used our combined psychic strength or force to pull the bolt back. [...] This was accounted for to our satisfaction at the time of our second visit; trying to shoot the bolt from inside the porch, Jane and I found we had to exert considerable pressure against the door in order to line the bolt up with the door frame; and once shut the door was exceedingly sturdy. [...]

There is one point from our previous discussion that should be added to. [...] In our last session, I mentioned that you considered live matter to be action in motion.

(From my writing table, to my right of the entrance to our bath, I could look easily at Bill as he sat in our Kennedy rocker, facing the bath entrance itself from the other side of the same door. [...]

[...] The offices of Dr. Levine, our friend and physician, are perhaps forty feet away, on the ground floor of a house that he owns. The side entrance to his suite is directly opposite our windows, and we often see Sam Levine coming and going. [...]

If you will remember the three creative dilemmas discussed in our past session, you will see that we have here the reason for our self-perpetuating universe, the reason for termination within it, and the inherent necessity for change. [...]

I am most pleased with our sessions of late.

Though both of you give much in time, energy and dedication and effort to our sessions, you will receive much more than you give. [...]

At the beginning of Appendix 12, see the longer presentation from the 44th session for Seth’s discussion of “the value climate of psychological reality” — the “medium” that spontaneously contains within it all of our camouflage constructions of space, time, growth, and durability. Note 2 for Appendix 12 also fits in here, especially Seth’s references within it to our endless questions about the beginning and ending of the physical universe.

Seth’s material in those early sessions, given well over a decade ago for the most part, reflected of course his reactions to current astronomical theory about the state — and fate — of our physical (camouflage) universe. [...] Yet I find it most interesting to note that now some astrophysicists and mathematicians believe our universe may be destined to contract — indeed, to collapse in upon itself — after all. [...]

[...] Our scientists have projected either ending many billions of years into the future, although in the meantime, “only”‘ an estimated five billion years from now, our own aging, exploding sun will have consumed the inner planets of the solar system — including the earth.

2. Just as he talks here about the surface nature of our travel, in Volume 1 of “Unknown” Reality Seth had a similar observation to make about our ideas of time; see the 688th session after 10:26: “Again, you live on the surface of the moments, with no understanding of the unrecognized and unofficial realities that lie beneath.”

(On December 27, the night of our anniversary, Jane held an unplanned session for young married friends of ours. [...] I taped the session on the recorder I’d given Jane for Christmas; our friends are to send us a transcript of the tape.

[...] The next day we were ready to get back to our writing and painting, but first I cleared the house of holiday paraphernalia—including our beautiful Christmas tree. [...] I told myself that next summer the tree’s skeleton would remind me of the days that had passed since 1980 began, in our terms; I knew I’d be grateful for having physically experienced every one of them. [...]

Over the weekend we’d signed the contracts with our publisher, Prentice-Hall, for Mass Events and God of Jane, and I mailed them this morning. [...]
