Now it appears to you that a difference is worked when you exchange a poor physical symbol for a constructive one. [...]

This does not mean that the demonstration serves no purpose, for all of my demonstrations serve a purpose and this one is to show that there is indeed a vitality that lives beyond the grave and that there is joy, and the personality continues to exist for this most willing and friendly associative man can permit me to speak in the most fearless and carefree tones. I would add one brief note for Ruburt’s edification. Surely he must be aware that his mother’s characteristic pose in bed was one that necessitated a complete turning of the upper body, whenever she wished to look one way or the other; and that her neck, because of her arthritis, could not turn normally.

[...] And Ruburt had also tuned in on the same conversation, but had already begun to tense, and therefore was blocking every psychological stimulus in the hopes of blocking out the right one. Unfortunately, he blocked out all of this except the right one.

[...] Quite simply arthritis, despite its being in his family, is not one of the diseases which will ever bother him.

(Jane’s ESP class for Tuesday evening, February 25, took place the day after the 739th session was held, and was her last one before we began preparing for our move to the hill house. [...] Since Sue herself is a Sumari, like Jane and me, I asked her to write an account of her feelings, thinking it would furnish a good example of one person’s emotional and intellectual involvement with a family of consciousness other than their own — and yes, of their reincarnational memories of those activities.

[...] Seth has said often that just because one has physical difficulties does not mean those problems are fated to get endlessly and progressively worse, but this hasn’t been born out in Jane’s case —so far. [...] In all of this, however, thoughts of self-accusation simply must be avoided as much as possible, for to a good degree in one way or another such activities and misunderstandings are behind any illness, and Ruburt is hardly to single himself out in any one area as being more stupid than anyone else. [...] I for one am holding my breath in the hope and trust that God of Jane’s issuance doesn’t also contribute to a worsening of her symptoms. [...]

2. Imagine that each card is a little different in shape or size from the one below it so there is a progressive change from the bottom of the stack to the top. [...]

3. Suppose now that one card in the stack represents a living, intelligent, two-dimensional being at some moment in time. [...]

[...] I have the feeling that another such experience happened right after this one, but I fell asleep and do not remember. [...]

(Last night, April 12, 1964, I had a brief but very vivid dream, in which I saw one of the big branches of the tree in front of Stamp’s house, around the corner from us, fall to the ground.

(This particular branch appears to be a solid one in the tree, but it grows out at a peculiar angle so that it looks weak and somehow out of place amid the rhythmic patterns of the other limbs and branches. [...]

[...] And even in the most private-type sessions Seth always wound his material into more public areas, so that we have reams of unpublished (and very controversial) material dealing with the connections between one’s illness and other members of the family, community relationships, and with the very belief systems that underlie all of human activity. [...] That is certainly one of Seth’s clearest messages. [...]

This whole miniature tempest is almost enough to make one wonder: How come those other people made their “Seths” known after Jane began to speak for her Seth, and to publish the Jane-Seth material? Being inspired to use one’s own abilities is a perfectly understandable development that we can be very happy about. [...]

A third point came up this morning, one we’ve talked about often lately. [...]

[...] I could keep track easily enough, I thought, of my own progress as I worked directly with my body, without drugs to confuse the issue, and with no one else between me and the reality I had so cunningly created. [...]

[...] The body and mind are one, and in that unity, regardless of appearances, one is the materialization of the other.

[...] Both of you have a tendency to concentrate upon the ills of the world—and so that applies also to the mail, for you remember the letters of those who are in difficulty far more than other letters—and Ruburt thinks that he is simply one more person with a problem that seemingly cannot be solved. Your pendulum sessions have been of benefit, and one reason is because they represent a united, joint and determined effort on both of your parts, and Ruburt feels your support. [...]

[...] The personality—each one—with its own challenges, will seek to solve its problems in its own way. [...]
