[...] You will compare your own life and work often in a critical fashion to artists who were obsessed with one art from the beginning of their lives, or who pursued what is really a kind of straight and undeviating course—a brave courageous one, perhaps, and highly focused, but one that must be in certain respects (underlined) limited in scope and complexity, not crossing any barriers except those that seem to occur strictly within painting’s realm itself (all intently. [...] I also was curious as to what he’d say about my speculation that the symptoms themselves might actually be one of her main challenges in this life.

You also ignore the fact that even the kind of painting you do could not be done by anyone else, and contains within it the raw material of your own unique and natural experience with life, and no one else’s.

No one from any psychological threshold, however vast, can write a book that defines the psyche, but only present hints and clues, words and symbols. [...]

These frameworks, while I speak of them separately, exist one within the other, and each one impinges upon the other. Now: In explanation, I do not know exactly how to word this, but in a manner of speaking I take tours — through psychological realities, however, or through psychic lands rather than physical ones. [...]

By such a belief you so attract probabilities that you actually miss the threats that appear at one level of reality. [...]

Traveling from one shore of it to another becomes a vast learning adventure, in which both sea and sky are observed in all of their moods and nuances while you are safely ensconced all of the while. [...]

The analogy is a good one, however, for you. [...]

In this way (pause), different kinds of behavior may be exhibited, and while it would seem that many decisions are made by one portion of the self, without another portion of the self knowing anything about it, such usually is not the case. In your terms, the person at birth is affected by multidimensional conditions, and the collective position of the planets is but one very minute indication of the other realities involved. [...]

Dreams are one of your greatest natural therapies, and one of your most effective assets as connectors between the interior and exterior universes.

First of all, the various kinds of organizations used by the psyche can be compared at one level, at least, with different arts. (One event concerned the telegram from attorney Thomas Bernier in Roseburg, Oregon. [...] He had confessed to her death several times, but no one believed him—until the last time, evidently. [...] Jane didn’t ask for details on the case, but instead explained to the lawyer something of Seth’s ideas so that the attorney could use that material in his defense, making it clear that above all Seth was not for violence, even though the prosecuting attorney was evidently trying to make the defendant sound as though it was okay to kill because reincarnation was a fact: Since we all lived other lives, no one could really kill anyone. [...]

[...] I for one will try to reassure myself that “things aren’t that bad yet.” What can one lose? [...]

(My thought of course is that gritting one’s teeth and plunging ahead with the new book in defiance of large portions of the personality may have unpleasant repercussions. [...] A strange way indeed to achieve one’s goal, a strange bargain. [...]

[...] Jane talked to Carole, the medium’s wife who works with him, and stated clearly that she didn’t want others claiming to speak for her Seth—who, incidentally, had told us years ago that he spoke through no one else but Jane. [...]

Realize that each time you replace a negative thought or feeling by a positive one, this is like making a correction in a painting. [...]

[...] You must therefore replace negative patterns with positive ones. [...]

[...] You know you will do the painting in physical terms, and you know you will have results in this endeavor, and excellent ones. [...]

[...] Your attitude was a rejecting one in general—that is, it was a reflection of a deeper pattern of negative thinking.
