(I told Jane that I’d long given up trying to hammer out my next writing project, as Seth had mentioned I was trying to do in one of these recent deleted sessions. [...]

(I stopped at a Convenient Market to buy potato chips to contribute to a party the staff is giving for one of the aides who’s changing jobs at the hospital. [...]

[...] “Right now, for instance,” I said, “we’re alone and no one’s bothering us. [...]

[...] Indeed, when I tried to position her for supper, she fell off to one side of the bed at such a severe angle that I had to call for help to get her straightened up again.

During the session Seth discussed Billy’s illness to some extent, while also giving the first “installment” of an answer to a longstanding question of mine: I was curious about the relationship between the host — whether human, animal, or plant — and a disease it might contract, one that was “caused,” say, by a virus. [...] Smallpox’s reappearance would undoubtedly be rationalized: It had lain hidden or dormant in some uninvestigated pocket of humanity; or it was a mutation, somehow “evolving” into smallpox from one of the closely related animal poxes.

Now give us a moment… One brief note: Ruburt was momentarily upset before the session — cranky. [...]

[...] Jane hopes to use both events, plus some material she wrote on scientific experimentation with animals, in one of her own books.

Anyway the chapter was to be followed according to what I got, by one on frightened people who suddenly break out of old ideas, open their mental environments, and seemingly work miracles in their lives; like the old man, the old woman....

[...] But there isn’t any one psychedelic experience for all, either in terms of time or content — the whole thing is too intensely personal. [...]

(11:57 PM.) I have one small but important personal note for Ruburt. [...]

[...] Five are class sessions; one is included because it is relevant to the discussion on after-life organization in Chapter Nine. [...]

Telepathic communication is one of the methods by which such agreement is reached. [...]

[...] Jane said, this evening, that her subjective feeling was one of elongation of the chin, to a point. [...]

[...] The one was visible to me, the other was not. [...]

[...] I for one haven’t had any such feelings, since from the very beginning of our relationship I’ve always felt certain that in Jane I’d found the ideal mate—an achievement I’ve considered most fortunate, one I’d hardly dared dream I’d manage to do. [...]

The affair was important because it showed him that such techniques do work, and it is an excellent example of one of the most important ways you have of helping him. [...]

[...] In the past Ruburt might have reacted differently, perhaps with self-pity, but now he is much more amiable to beneficial suggestions, so that one can completely turn him about, back to his course.

(At about 3:30 PM last Thursday, Jane participated in a startling experience —one that we hoped Seth would at least mention this evening. [...]

Now; one thing at a time—and we hope to tie it all together. [...]
