In a manner of speaking you have your dream newscasters, of course, only these are both more extensive and more personal than your television equivalents. Your dream newscasts come down to the question of what actions are taken by individuals (underlined)—and individual actions, again, are as influenced by the knowledge received in dreams as they are from exterior activity.

(Part of the session grew out of our recent reactions to the televised newscasts, as well as what we’ve been reading lately, concerning the mass suicide in Guyana, the shooting of the mayor of San Francisco, problems with inflation, the Middle East —any of what seemed to be an infinite number of ills the species has created for itself. [...]

The selected newscasts shown in theatres in the Second World War were quite censored, but the aggressive press and its corps do now indeed serve in their own way as an invisible “police force.” [...]

(Just before the session, we saw a newscast of a congressional committee in Washington, with some well-known scientists testifying as to the probable aftereffects of nuclear war—how the instigator would also eventually destroy itself even if the attacked never fired a retaliatory strike at all. [...]

[...] It involved her flying, material about the world—newscasts—and her rediscovery of some beautiful objects, including a sofa, that may have been hers before. [...]

[...] I thought of their daring raid to free their countrymen and women held hostage at Entebbe, Uganda, a few years ago; that event was also mentioned in tonight’s newscasts. [...]

(Then when we watched the news while eating supper at the coffee table, we soon found the mayhem and related misdeeds recited by the newscasters so depressing that we switched channels to an innocuous Mod Squad show several years old—even though those color backgrounds—Nicaragua, Israel, Russia, etc., were still so fascinating. [...]

[...] Nor have we heard or read about this amazing “coincidence” since seeing that one mention of it on that TV newscast.
