Ruburt’s body has been repressed. Everything was working, but in a very restricted fashion as far as locomotion was concerned. The body was repressed rather than expressed. It was inactive, in that it was operating, but nowhere near a good efficiency level, again, as far as locomotion was concerned.
That rhythm includes some very gradual changes in important areas, so that other portions are not restrained. It also includes accelerations of releases as the time is ripe. Ruburt should not be overly concerned at his locomotion, walking, in any given day. For one thing, his overall increased activity chairwise provides an overall general increase of strength and flexibility. Even when he brings the chair into the bathroom, he must for example get up and down. More, however, on some days he will feel actively like walking, and then he should do so, and even in a day when he does have difficulty, there will almost certainly be some periods when he will feel the same urge. The important thing is not to worry, and also Ruburt’s condition now is such that the body seeks more and more activity.
I want to reassure Ruburt in this period that significant areas of recovery are now indeed being accomplished, and he can indeed proceed to normal locomotion if you continue as you are doing.

You may then attempt normal locomotion, or levitation.

If you are presently experiencing a life in which you have chosen high emphasis upon physical locomotion, for example, then through vague dream memories of flying you can be inspired toward, say, the invention of airplanes or rockets; but if you actually understand the fact that your own consciousness can indeed travel outside of the body, then the impetus toward physical developments in locomotion is not nearly so intense.

There is a disease you read about recently, where the skin turns leathery after intense itching — a fascinating development in which the human body tries to form a leathery-like skin that would, if the experiment continued, be flexible enough for, say, sweat pores and normal locomotion, yet tough enough to protect itself in jungle environments from the bites of many “still more dangerous” insects and snakes.3 Many such experiments appear in certain stages as diseases, since the conditions are obviously not normal physical ones.

It is no longer necessary for locomotion, and its senses, electrically coded now, are no longer necessary, since they were adopted to meet the demands of a particular field in which the personality no longer has any prime interest.

If you could see the body with x-ray eyes, or could perceive its activity, you would observe an almost constant reactivation and revitalization of all those parts devoted to motion and locomotion—increased circulation—precisely the amount required: not too much or too little, and overall adjustments, so that all parts of the body are prepared and exercised, so that the final stages of the pattern will then easily seem to fall into place because of the work being done now.

A connection with a machine, and locomotion, and some people you do not know, and some you do know.
(“and locomotion”, is to me a personal association of Jane’s derived from the machine data above.
