“Seth material” search engine (Jane Roberts)

[...] Jane and I attended a jazz mass presented by Joe Masters in the Presbyterian Church, in Horseheads, just north of Elmira, NY, where we live. [...] In addition Jane and I, with the Gallaghers, sat in the second row and thus felt the full force of the performance.

(Last Saturday, June 19, Jane received a brief communication from Seth while going about her household chores. [...] Jane thought, idly, that some foods would not be practical for Bill to eat. [...]

[...] Jane was well dissociated. [...] Jane was perfectly at ease, her skin quite dry and fresh. [...]

(Last evening had also been very warm, and Jane had slept poorly: She kept waking up with data about dream landscapes being “right there” before her, and wondered if she could travel among them “like crossing fences from one backyard to the next.” [...] As far as she knew the material hadn’t come from Seth, Jane said, but in retrospect it seems obvious that it had been in preparation for Chapter Twenty.

(The night was very hot and uncomfortably humid, but Jane didn’t want to miss the session. [...]

(Before the session, we voiced the hope once more that Seth would at least comment on Jane’s latest experience involving book work in the sleep state. [...]

(After supper Debbie Janney visited without seeing Jane. [...] She gave me a color photo of the cat to show Jane. The incident upset Jane, signifying as it did people’s urges to ask her all kinds of questions for all kinds of psychic help—taking it for granted that she was able and willing to offer that help. Jane said it made her feel “incompetent” that she couldn’t, or didn’t, pinpoint what had happened to the cat. [...] Jane recalled her successes in helping to reassure the parents of two lost girls some years ago [in separate incidents] in the Midwest. [...]

(I’m doing my best to stay out of interfering with Jane’s dealings with Tam and Prentice-Hall. Tam has requested that we send him a letter outlining our position re a competent professional translator of the French Seth Speaks. I was going to do the letter this weekend, but didn’t. I asked Jane if she would write the letter, and she agreed to. [...]

[...] I said it was essential that we communicate to that personification [named by Seth for convenience’s sake only] that its performance was quite destructive to Jane, and that it must release its hold. I wanted to know the Sinful Self’s attitudes toward the fact that it had rendered Jane literally helpless as far as her survival was concerned; she couldn’t take care of herself physically without the aid of others, I said, so this obviously implied that the Sinful Self was creating its own demise also. [...]

(We’d achieved some good success with our mutual pendulum suggestions for Jane, twice daily, over the past several weeks. Early this week, however, I began to feel very much out of sorts; I let the pendulum sessions go as far as Jane was concerned. [...] I also wondered if we were really getting anywhere using it to help Jane. [...]

(This session came about quite unexpectedly just before midnight, after we’d had company—the Leahys from the end of Pinnacle Road; Jane had called them at supper time this evening and asked them to visit us. [...] I then told Jane that I’d been feeling poorly all week—to such an extent, even, that I’d wondered if I was developing an ulcer. [...]

(When the session began I began to feel almost nauseous—which is a feeling Jane has had when she deals with personal material. [...] Then Jane felt “sick,” as she put it. [...]

(As is often the case Jane had no idea of what material would be dealt with this evening. [...] Jane began speaking in trance at quite a fast pace, eyes open often, etc.)

[...] When Jane and I wonder about Seth’s seeming availability, we mean the scheduled Monday and Wednesday evening sessions, an occasional appearance at one of Jane’s ESP classes, and an occasional dropping in at an unscheduled session, perhaps on a weekend, etc.

(For a while now Jane and I have been considering the question, aloud, of Seth’s availability to us whenever we choose to hold a session. [...]

[...] Seth-Jane leaned forward for emphasis, gesturing, eyes dark and wide.)

[...] Jane’s pace was now slowing considerably after a fast start.)

[...] Jane was out of trance almost immediately. [...]

[...] Jane has scanned portions of it and found it excellent; we’re surprised that we haven’t heard of it before, especially in light of Pierce’s two bestsellers on The Crack in the Cosmic Egg. Jane said she thought Magical Child contained ideas reminiscent of her own and Seth’s ideas, and was also remindful of a book idea she’s considering at the moment, on the magical self. [...]

(Jane has felt fairly well today. [...] Jane still has walking difficulties getting from her chairs to the john or bed, and her arms continue to be very uncomfortable.)

[...] Jane had been speaking quite emphatically between long pauses. Seth’s use of “matrix” above reminded me that before the session Jane had mentioned that he wanted to discuss her Sinful Self material in a new sort of matrix.)

[...] As the minutes passed and we sat waiting, I asked Jane what she was thinking about. [...] On the other hand, given our present work orientations the sessions would have to happen sometime during the week—at least twice—and it didn’t seem reasonable to think that Jane would have every one of those on the spontaneous spur of the moment. [...]

(I’ll note my question here so that it won’t be forgotten, although actually I mentioned it to Jane after tonight’s session had been held. Simply, I thought it would be a good idea if Seth would tell us about what good things we’ve managed to accomplish through the years as far as Jane’s symptoms go. [...]

[...] Jane was relaxed on the couch as usual. [...]

(At supper time this evening I explained a few problems of a technical nature, connected with my painting, to Jane. [...] I told Jane I wasn’t asking that Seth go into these this evening; I preferred that he talk about Jane or the Sumari work. I made the extra effort to explain these concerns to Jane because I feel it’s part of the resurgence I seem to be experiencing since we made the decision that I leave Artistic at the end of this month.)

(A note: this afternoon Jane began translating the long letter I wrote her in Sumari on December 31, 1971. [...] Jane tried several times to get something on it recently, without success, then abruptly this afternoon it began to open up to her.

(This is excellent material, as I told Jane. [...] The painting I am working on now features a cadmium red shirt on the subject, and has given me some trouble because of its tendency to turn purplish if not watched; since Jane has seen me at work on this portrait often, she may have picked this up, although I haven’t mentioned it to her. [...]

[...] Jane cried while telling me about them, and while we used the pendulum. [...]

(A few notes: I have always felt that my early life, being so different than Jane’s, had a lot to do with my approach to painting, once I embarked upon it after meeting her when I was about 34. [...]

[...] It also seems that this point coincides with a time of trial for Jane and me, as witness these deleted sessions.

[...] I talked about the doctor reporting that Jane’s books were kept in the occult section of the bookstore, thus causing her to lose readers; I used the incident as an example of how stereotyped ideas can limit something becoming better known—breaking out of its specialized field to reach a much wider audience, as I think Jane’s work deserves. [...]

(Then in today’s mail Jane received a letter from another doctor, as well as from a professor of mathematics – also signs that the Seth material was capable of wider appeal. [...] Then Jane dictated the words quoted above, saying Seth would probably cover them in tonight’s session. [...]

(“Home, sex, power, you and the driveway, hay fever, the impulsive selves that we were talking about earlier tonight”—these are all words dictated to me by Jane abruptly as we sat waiting for the session to begin. [...]

(By now Jane and I were very curious, since this was the first time we had ever had the chance to resume with a contact made previously on the board. [...]

(“Did you know either Jane or me in a previous life?”)

(“Did you know Jane previously?”)

(Reading the 3rd session, of December 6/63, John noticed that Frank Watts, Jane and I had all lived together in Mesopotamia in the 4th century B.C. In that life I was a woman, Frank Watts was my sister, and Jane was a brother to us, and named Seth. During these first sessions it will be remembered that Jane and I received our information from Frank Watts. [...]

[...] Jane was not fully dissociated, she said, although fairly so. [...] When Jane began dictating again her manner became somewhat more deliberate. [...]

(Intrigued by Jane’s delivery of the word extral, I checked Webster’s Unabridged for 1951. [...] Jane speculated that since she had studied Latin in high school Seth might have used her own subconscious knowledge to coin a new word.

[...] Late in August Jane interrupted her work on James to move all of her writing paraphernalia into her new room at the back of the house. [...] Jane, who was to work on James all through September, prepared a presentation for that book so that in the meantime her editor, Tam Mossman, could show it to his associates at Prentice-Hall. On September 12, Jane had a very vivid dream that she believes was rooted in a past life of hers in Turkey: Her dream involved a little boy, Prince Emir, who lived in a brand-new world in which death hadn’t been invented yet. Over the telephone three days later, Tam suggested that Jane do a children’s book, or one for “readers of all ages,” based on her dream about Emir;² the next day he called again, this time to give her the delightful news that he’d accepted James for publication.

[...] Seth-Jane was certainly busy on all of those Monday and Saturday nights, though, and came through with another separate series of sessions after I inserted the 806th session into Mass Events — 17 of them this time, as compared to the 10 sessions delivered before the 806th was held. [...]

[...] “Maybe he’s already finished the book, and forgot to tell us,” I joked with Jane. [...]

[...] Remarkable, that a creature that young could navigate so well, as well as possess a kind of beauty Jane and I were so unaccustomed to. [...] We had an enlightening talk, and by the time he left Bob said more than once that he’s “learned a lot” from Jane. Jane on the other hand was surprised at Bob’s lack of insight into the challenge of cancer that he’s taken on. [...]

(Yesterday I finished typing up the 841st session, so now I’m all caught up on the sessions that had piled up while Jane and I worked checking the page proofs for Volume 2 of “Unknown” Reality, Psyche, and similar matters. [...]

(“It’s liable to be a short session,” Jane said at 9:15,” I’m just doing it because I don’t want to miss a turn.” [...]

(Once again I note that Jane’s physical improvements continue as described in recent sessions. [...] Jane laughed that she’d have made it four times in a row if Willy hadn’t interfered.

[...] Hence, I’d decided to send her a book on art, derived through Jane’s trance abilities. At the same time, I told Jane, we shouldn’t attach too much significance to this, since we’ve been sending out only Cézanne books—that is, anyone we send a book to gets one on art.

(Jane had no special questions, beyond saying she hoped Seth would continue with material on Frameworks 1 and 2. She was very relaxed, and expressed qualifications about having s session; she did want to try, though.

[...] Up from her nap, Jane was still sleepy. [...]

(Jane began dictating in a rather normal voice. [...]

[...] Jane was dissociated as usual. [...]

(We read that in ordinary terms highly creative people [like Jane] usually generate large amounts of theta and low-alpha waves pretty constantly while doing their thing. [...] Nor at this time, given the minimum premise that Jane’s speaking for Seth constitutes any indication of “paranormal” activity, do we think that her performance could be identified as such per se on the graphs of her brain waves. [...] Presumably, however, when speaking for Seth, Jane would show definite changes in all frequency areas in both hemispheres, with the theta and delta ranges altered the most. [...]

[...] Jane and I have seldom been concerned with trying for strict definitions of qualities like “altered states of consciousness.” All of us experience such altered states of consciousness often throughout each day, so the phrase itself should hardly mean anything mysterious — even though others usually look at Jane or me questioningly if either of us uses it in conversation.

(Jane, for instance, hasn’t had her brain waves formally recorded by an EEG, or electroencephalograph. [...]

[...] For the record: Tuesday last, Alan Neuman called Jane to tell her that he had decided to make a movie of Seven himself, instead of trying to interest others in doing so. [...] He told Jane a lot of technical and legal details she didn’t very well understand, but he is certainly sincere, she thinks, about Seven. He told Jane that he would have some news for her “within a month”—which would be fast service indeed. He stressed that he wanted Jane to have good legal protection, and a say in quality control. Jane told him in her subsequent letter that we are relying upon Prentice-Hall and John Nelson to tell us what to do about legal advice when the time comes, if it does.

(Jane said that yesterday and today she’s known “more profound changes” in her body than she has for many years. [...]

[...] Jane said that she thought tonight’s session would be a short one.)

(Tonight Jane and I had another rather long discussion before the session, as before the last session, and once again our talk proved to be very beneficial. Once again Jane gained insights into the problems behind her symptoms, and we planned a course of action as a result; the course merely concerns a way to think about her psychic abilities, with some suggestions given to this end in a specific way.

(As we talked Jane herself made the intuitive connection that her “intellectual skepticism” about her psychic gifts is really a fear, an emotional masquerade that prevents her from being really objective in considering her abilities. Jane made valuable connections here about the honesty necessary in evaluating her psychic gifts, linking this same honesty with that she uses while writing poetry, etc. [...]

(Jane began speaking in trance while sitting on the divan, using a quiet voice, a direct manner, with her eyes open often.)
