LETTER TO ROB AND JANE (FROM HENRY N. WILLIAMS [HAL])

(Jane finished reading last night’s deleted session at 9:00 PM—I’d worked most of today typing it from my notes. [...]

(It’s difficult to describe, but Jane’s voice in trance was pitched a bit lower than it usually is. [...]

[...] “I had no idea if that was the stuff I was getting this morning or not,” Jane said. [...]

[...] Seth-Jane’s flow of cadences had been uneven since the beginning of the session, and I’d started to wonder if I should interrupt to ask what was going on. After this exchange, though, Jane’s delivery resumed its usual, rather deliberate rhythm.)

[...] Jane’s trance had been good, her delivery even and very intent for the most part. [...]

[...] Seth returned to deliver a page of material in which he briefly discussed Jane’s own work with beliefs, her poetry, and her latest ideas about her psychic abilities; from there he went into our relationship with each other and with our parents.

(As we waited for tonight’s session to begin I read to Jane a letter I’ve just written to a prominent biologist. [...]

[...] “It seems to me,” I said to Jane, “that if science wants to be believed, it should offer some data that are at least reasonably convincing. [...]

(10:23 P.M. “I don’t know where the hell I was tonight,” Jane said. [...]

[...] We’ve learned much, and Jane’s body seems to be initiating good responses.

[...] But primarily, my original question had to do with Jane’s own case, and at this time that was the one we were still interested in gaining insight into.)

[...] As we talked, Jane said that Seth wanted to return for a moment. [...]

(Jane, as Seth, pointed to the angelwing begonia that sat on the narrow coffee table separating us.)

[...] Jane was aware of what she was saying; she called it a devastating psychological analysis and intuitively felt that is was correct.

During ESP Class the Sumari, through Jane, told Florence to go look out the middle window, and Sue to look at the door which they did. [...]

[...] This evening both of us felt logy after our supper of veal and spaghetti—yet Jane was also restless. [...]

9:32 P.M. “Wow,” Jane said as soon as she was out of trance. [...]

[...] Jane felt out of sorts tonight and had been tired Monday.)

[...] Jane’s pace was faster during this delivery, and her eyes were often open.

(“What’s going on with his head?” For the record: Jane’s head has been draining steadily most of the day; it had been bothering her even during the session.)

[...] The condition however also raises body temperature (which Jane had noticed), so that certain necessary antibodies are released into the system that help clear the joints and purify the blood.
