“Seth material” search engine (Jane Roberts)

(“Insight, February 25, 1981, 1:20 PM. Although Jane enjoys the sessions, as Seth himself said in the session for February 1, 1981 She is still somewhat afraid of what he will produce in the future—new theories and ideas that either might or will place her in further confrontation with the major tenets of our ordinary world—meaning science, religion, medicine, history, whatever. She fears then, Seth going too far as an expression of her creative and spontaneous self. This expression then must be kept within strict, safe limits. This fear of future developments ties in very well with her natural concerns about becoming a public figure, one that should be able to solve the world’s problems. Once more, I know I’m on to something here, while agreeing in advance that I’ve expressed the insight in simplistic terms.”

(Jane called me for the session at 8:25. “I don’t feel Seth around and I don’t feel like a session,” she said, “but I guess I’d better....” We sat waiting for some time. I showed her my rough notes on the latest insight, and took pains to explain to her that it wasn’t a negative statement, but one that I saw as having only beneficial connotations. “What I think would happen if Seth were free to do anything he wanted to, would be great,” I said. “Whether it was ever published or not. We can talk about it later.” We agreed the insight represented something of a new idea.

(Actually it’s Friday night as I finish this typing, and I read the untyped portions of the session to Jane each morning as I had it in progress. It has been a lot of help. She’s sleeping better, and yet is still uncomfortable on her bottom and legs. The fears continue to surface. I’d say she’s doing very well, and it seems that this time we are really making progress. Another brief insight came to me yesterday, which I told her about: simply that she’d given up her own volition to one part of her personality. I mentioned it because she discussed the question of volition in God of Jane; she thought the insight made sense.)

(But with a new insight growing out of this month’s series of private sessions, I explained, I now felt that one could more directly get at the heart of one’s challenges, instead of trying to cajole the body into behaving differently—after all, the body’s condition was the result of certain ways of thinking, not the cause of the trouble. In addition, it was obvious that the body hadn’t responded to those habitual suggestions over the years, so something else was needed. The cause of Jane’s symptoms is her fear of the spontaneous self—that is the area that needs treatment. One might better address the fears of being the public person, for example, rather than trying to futilely patch up a body that was only faithfully following mirroring habits of deep and long standing.

[...] Basically, however, creative acts, the acts of insight, intuition, of revelation, do not take time in the same fashion. [...] A moment’s insight, for example—a moment’s—might carry you in a flash where your intellect alone could not travel in years.

[...] Regular working hours can give you a time framework you need, in which those ideas can appear, but the ideas themselves, and the insights, often come to you particularly when you are not thinking of work. When you are doing any of a number of other things, encounters with others that often appear as distractions, are instead springboards for insights that you may not have had otherwise.

It might take you years, possibly, to thoroughly discuss all of the ramifications of that insight, but the original creation comes from Framework 2 into your time. [...]

[...] It is not, say, a simple declaration, but involves realizations and insights of vital import that are given purposefully in such a way that they will gradually be sifted into consciousness because consciousness, the consciousness, would not be able to interpret the meanings in usual terms. [...]

How often is it that an insight about ourselves surprises us? [...] A remarkable insight—to me; and that’s what matters.

(Much slower after a long pause at 9:10:) Such considerations should naturally spark within you far vaster and yet far more intimate insights—insights in whose light the hazy rhetoric of [...]

[...] I could sympathize with their writers, though, for each one had communicated with us out of a deep need, and is searching for insight into the creation of a personal and mass reality. [...]

(9:30.) I do not, therefore, want you to concentrate your efforts in memorizing methods of perceiving other realities, but to realize that such insights are everywhere within your grasp. [...]

1. In Note 1 for the 840th session I cited an insight we’d recently obtained into the relationship between Jane and Seth, and mentioned how we’re always on the lookout for such clues. [...] Tonight, then, in the deleted portion of the session, Seth gave us insights into his own personality. [...]

Give us a moment… While I say all of this about thoughts and viruses, remember the context of the discussion, for new information and insights are always available to an individual from Framework 2, and the body does indeed send its own signals.

[...] For whatever reason, this seemed to trigger an insight on my part. [...] My words made the insight sound more prosaic than it really was, I’m afraid. [...]

(The above isn’t an accurate definition of what the insight was about, and I do think it was a valid one; it may be as good as I could get it in discrete words, I told Jane after I’d read it to her. [...]

(Jane only said that the insight, if accurate at all, was depressing, after I’d read it to her.)

[...] I would have been tonight, also, had I even thought of it—that is, I would have negated such a performance until I had the chance to study the implications of my reactions, in the light of my insight of Monday night, and Seth’s excellent session following that insight. [...]

[...] But also that discussion resulted in some later insights on Jane’s part, and I believe turned up in some of her poetry, which has been excellent lately.

(I began to get a fresh insight to the symptom situation as we talked, hardly realizing that I was doing so. [...]

[...] No one can ever accuse you of handing down great insights from a position of being above it all.... [...]

[...] Once again Jane gained insights into the problems behind her symptoms, and we planned a course of action as a result; the course merely concerns a way to think about her psychic abilities, with some suggestions given to this end in a specific way.

[...] Both of us felt we were on strong solid ground here, and that our insights this evening probably concerned the last problems to be dealt with in the banishment of symptoms.

[...] The intellect follows when and to what extent it can in the poetic experience, but does not directly participate in the initial moment of revelation or intuitional insight. [...]

The strength of the intuitional insight itself convinces the intellect of its validity after the poetic experience, because Ruburt allows himself full freedom to encounter the revelation. [...]

[...] An encounter, for example, that is a nuisance today may suddenly spark a new insight tomorrow, or appear in your own work in an entirely different form that you do not recognize, simply because you are not used to looking at such distractions in this kind of creative light.

[...] Therefore, you are hardly ever able to follow them through so that you can connect any particular insight or auspicious event with the “originating” distraction. [...]

With a changed attitude, however, you will be able to follow those distractions’ “transformations”—that is, you will be able to glimpse how this distraction ends up in that insight, or how that distraction actually initiated a beneficial event, when in the past, everything seemed unrelated. [...]

[...] Certainly her paper is extremely creative, including insights also as it does about her relationship with Seth.

[...] I do not want to affect its development now, however, in an overt fashion by comments, and I prefer that many of the insights are directly expressed in that manner, rather say than by my own interpretation of them. [...]

[...] The creative artist can be in somewhat of a quandary, according to his beliefs, for he wants to preserve the precious moment, the fleeting thought, the daffodils, the perceived insights. At the same time he often feels the need to stand apart from life, from the fleeting thoughts, the daffodils or the insight, so that he will not be lost completely in the moment, but able to form almost a second self with a larger viewpoint, who can then more clearly examine and understand the thought, the moment, or the insight.

[...] But truth involves insights of a most peculiar kind, for they cannot indeed be truly specified, and the more specific you try to make them the more you distort them, or the more you dilute their original power. [...]

[...] For some insights in this area I would like to come through his own experience of direct feelings. [...] Hopefully, Ruburt himself will have insights in the meantime that will make my material pertinent.

[...] I will also have something to say about Ruburt’s own insights involving the secret aspects of his nature.

[...] I was groggy, but asked her to tell me what she meant when she said she’d come up with some good insights from the evening before. [...] I mentioned at the time that maybe she could do some dictation this morning about her new insights, and this session is the result. [...]

Last night, at Rob’s suggestion, I looked over my notebook of sinful-self stuff with related material, hoping of course that it might trigger some important impetus or clue that would give me insight into my own position. [...]

[...] The Sinful Self material is “timed” in its own fashion so that although there is a good deal of material already written, its effects are periodic—that is, they are clued to spring into even greater insight which may not be apparent at any one given time. [...]

(Although this is a private session that Jane and I are filing separately from “regular” material, we’re also presenting it in Mass Events because of the many insights Seth offers into individual and mass events in general, and into our personal realities in particular. [...] So in that sense this session contains more of those insights into the how and why of the Seth material that we’re always searching for. [...]

(The session really grew out of several insights that Jane herself has voiced since giving last Wednesday night’s book copy. [...]

[...] I’ve managed to come up with some new insights about painting, however, and have begun implementing them. [...] The insights, which seem rather obvious in retrospect, represent a sort of synthesis that I’ve been trying for in recent years.

[...] In that area you are asked to merge philosophical insights with the practical, everyday nitty-gritty of life. [...]

Ruburt then has indeed been involved in working out his dilemmas, both in their private and public nature through the use of such dream techniques, the subsequent feelings aroused in the daytime, and the intuitive resolutions and insights that then occur. [...]

[...] At first I’d thought this a new insight on Seth’s part, but we decided that it wasn’t, that he’d covered this ground in other material from a variety of viewpoints. [...]

(I made quick notes about my insight just now. [...] I feel the same mechanisms for understanding operated here as did when I had the insight of February 3—see the deleted session for February 4 [the first in this new series], wherein I wrote that Jane “does the Seth books just to please me.” I think that insight is connected to the following:

[...] As I typed the paragraph on page @38-39 of the material, I had the insight described below. [...]

[...] 2. This insight led Jane to an obvious one neither of us had ever made before: that when she gets a letter in which the writer threatens suicide if Jane doesn’t help him or her, this is like Marie threatening the young Jane that she will commit suicide.)
