(After a few minutes, Jane said the dream could have been related to the injuries the nurse’s aide had suffered to her own impaired leg — the one that had been stapled inside that I described in a recent session. [...]

[...] “Even when I’m doing this [smoking], I feel my ass revolving inside,” she said—another good sign. [...]

Such a person might imagine his or her anger or fury filling up the inside of a gigantic balloon that is then pricked by a needle, exploding in pieces from the pressure within, with debris falling everywhere — out over the ocean, or caught up by the wind, but in any case dispersed in whatever way seems agreeable to the patient.

[...] And that what you observe does not necessarily come from outside of you but from inside of you. [...]

[...] They will come from the inside and not from skepticism. [...]

(After coming out, kept feeling inclined to go right; as if partially moving out of my body but not nearly that strong or vivid; merely a feeling that I wasn’t entirely inside body but half out to the right in a shadowy rather than substantial fashion. [...]

[...] Beside this, the sound of additional hammering inside the house rose up through our floor; but none of this lasted long or interfered with the session.)

[...] Its role is dual, however: It is meant to assess conditions both inside and outside, to handle data that comes from the physical world and from the inner portions of the self. [...]

(Early in the morning, Jane said, she had successfully managed to imagine herself back at 458 West Water Street, cleaning the place, washing the windows inside and out, very agilely climbing about—doing all of those things she’d loved to do, even to hosing down the house from the outside. [...]

In the most basic of ways, the world is formed from the inside out, and from dreaming reality into the physical one—and those processes happen at another level of consciousness (quietly emphatic).

(Jane located the inside box in which the sweater was packed, and remembered this box being inside another. [...]

[...] “My right big toe is hot as hell inside,” she said. [...]

(Earlier today she’d showed me how she’d discovered quite by “accident” that she could reach down to touch the inside of her right thigh with her left hand—farther than she’s reached in a long time. [...]

[...] Jane said they didn’t hurt, except that her right heel in back, and the inside of her right ankle, bothered her a little.

[...] If he remembers his instinctive feeling for nature he will know that he belongs outside as well as inside.

Projections from the dream state intrigue me because in them I believe we encounter the inside of our own consciousness in a most direct fashion. [...]
