“Seth material” search engine (Jane Roberts)

This sense of division within the self forces you to think that there is a remote, spiritual, wise, intuitive inner self, and a bewildered, put-upon, spiritually ignorant, inferior physical self, which happens to be the one you identify with. Many of you believe, moreover, that the physical self’s very nature is evil, that its impulses, left alone, will run in direct opposition to the good of the physical world and society, and fly in the face of the deeper spiritual truths of inner reality. The inner self then becomes so idealized and so remote that by contrast the physical self seems only the more ignorant and flawed. [...]

[...] There is an inner self in the terms of those definitions, but that inner self, which is the source of your present being, speaks through your impulses. [...]

[...] They emerge from Framework 2, from the inner self, and they are based on the great inner webwork of communication that exists among all species on your planet. [...]

[...] There are ramifications quite unspeakable, although in certain states of trance, or with the aid of educated dreaming, you might be able to glimpse the inner complications, the webworks of communications that connect your official earth with other probable ones. You choose your time and focus in physical reality again and again, and the mind holds an inner comprehension of many seemingly mysterious developments involving the species.

The inner ego is indeed the “I” of your dreams, having somewhat the same sort of position within the inner self as the ego itself has to the physical self. Actions however merge within the inner ego. [...] We will at a later time discuss this inner ego in connection with the dream situation and health.

[...] The inner ego of which we have spoken is the director of such unifying activities, and while the inner ego is mainly concerned with inner reality, it is also aware of physical existence.

It goes without saying that the dream universe is every bit as real to the inner self as the physical universe is to the conscious egotistical self. The physical universe is relatively (underline relatively) as unimportant to the inner self as the dream universe appears to be to the egotistical self.

The inner ego however is to some degree still familiar with their activities. Solutions found by these dream personalities are automatically picked up by the inner ego, and transmitted to the various levels of the self. [...]

[...] I have spoken of the inner and outer senses to make our discussion easier. However you must know by now that there is no actual distinction between inner and outer. [...] The inner senses are concerned with vitalities beneath the camouflage. These inner senses, if I may use an analogy again, are like hidden underground trains that carry important fuel from one country to another.

The inner senses deal with what actually is. The inner senses are the carriers of our fuel, that is, they can be likened to the various cars of our imaginary train. [...]

[...] Because man has such a sense of curiosity the scientists on your plane will be forced finally to use their own inner senses. [...] You will come no closer to knowledge of the fifth dimension until you use the inner senses as tools of perception.

[...] If you will ignore the apparent distinction between inner and outer senses you will get along at a faster rate. [...]

Each reader, therefore, has inner senses, and to some extent uses them constantly, though he is not aware of doing so at an egotistical level. Now, we use the inner senses quite freely and consciously. [...]

[...] Consciousness is equipped with inner perceptors, however. [...]

Using the inner senses, we become conscious creators, cocreators. [...]

[...] The inner senses open your range of perception, allow you to interpret experience in a far freer manner and to create new forms and new channels through which you, or any consciousness, can know itself.

In each life you are meant to check the exterior environment in order to learn your inner condition. The outer is a reflection of the inner.

You are meant to understand the nature of your inner self, and to manifest it outward. As this is done, the exterior circumstances should change for the better as the inner self becomes more aware of its own nature and capabilities. [...]

[...] It is this — to perfect inner knowledge, and to materialize it as faithfully as possible outward into the world. The changing physical scene throughout the centuries, as you know them, represents the inner images that have flickered through the minds of the individuals who lived within the world through the various ages.

(9:25.) This realization, however, should go hand in hand with a deep intuitional knowledge of the capabilities of the inner self. [...]

[...] The tissue capsule surrounds each consciousness and is actually an energy field boundary, keeping the inner self’s energy from seeping away.

[...] The seventh Inner Sense allows for an expansion or contraction of this tissue capsule.”

Rob and I have had some experience using this Inner Sense. [...]

[...] Privately, then, much of your inner life escapes you. [...] These, while important, are the result of your own inner world of activity. That inner world is your only real connection with the exterior events, and the objective details make sense only because of the subjectivity that gave them birth.⁶

5. “Disentanglement” immediately reminded me of the inner senses — those qualities and abilities which the personality uses to apprehend its physical (or camouflage) world. Seth began describing the inner senses early in 1964. [...] Jane devoted Chapter 19 of The Seth Material to the inner senses.

“With disentanglement,” Seth stated in the 43rd session, “the inner self disengages itself from one particular camouflage before it either adopts another set smoothly or dispenses with camouflage entirely. This is accomplished through what you might call a changing of frequencies or vibrations … In some ways, your dream world gives you a closer experience with basic inner reality than does your waking world, where the inner senses are so shielded from your awareness.”

A note: Just as he periodically reminds us of his material-to-come on physical aging and out-of-body states (see Note 4, above), Seth mentions that there are more inner senses he’ll tell us about someday — then adds that many of them are so far removed from reality as we understand it that our comprehension will be intellectual at best; in such cases we won’t be able to identify with them emotionally. And then other groups of inner senses, Seth continues, are truly “beyond verbalization.”

[...] It is that the sixth inner sense, of which we have spoken briefly, can be likened in some respects to the instincts of the inner self. [...]

You will have no doubt noticed that these inner senses all represent actual inner abilities. [...]

[...] That is, the inner self has at its command complete knowledge, but only portions of it are used by an organism at any given instance.

[...] Now, the strange sensation experienced by Ruburt just before this session was a taste of our seventh inner sense, but only a small portion. [...]

[...] From her description of it I thought she might have been exploring an ability related to the inner senses. [...] (Several years later, Jane was to list nine such inner senses in Chapter 19 of The Seth Material.) Jane said that upon coming slowly awake from her nap she’d had the very peculiar feeling of ‘growing larger.’ The laughing phrase she used was that she’d felt as ‘big as an elephant.’ Her boundaries of awareness seemed to have expanded. [...]

[...] Ruburt experienced this on a physical level, trying to translate inner data into sensation that could be recognized by the outer senses. This seventh inner sense represents an extension of the self, a widening of its conscious comprehension … or a pulling together into … a minute capsule that enables the self to enter other fields.

(In that 39th session, Seth confirmed that Jane had been experimenting with one of the inner senses. [...]

(And finally, I can note that in recent years I’ve had some experiences of my own with the seventh inner sense. [...]

The new balance signals the organism that an inner problem has been resolved. [...] When imbalances of a physical nature are removed by the introduction of drugs, however, the body signals say that the inner dilemma must have been taken care of also — while this may not be the case at all (very positively).

A man who makes a statue uses his conscious mind, his creative abilities, his physical body, and the inner resources of his own being.

[...] You form your image constantly; as many of the artistic processes are hidden, so the inner mechanisms by which you create your material self lie beneath the surface of your conscious mind. [...]

[...] It is one of the most efficient natural therapies, and the inner framework in which much of your physical body building actually takes place.

[...] They are all formed from inner vitality, which is the basic or ground reality. Many other systems reflect inner reality more clearly, with less distortions, but the distortions themselves are creations. [...]

[...] There is an electromagnetic connection within and beneath all systems indeed, but this is only the result of inner mental connections. In each system you test inner knowledge by checking it against the unique and particular rules of that system.

Each inner self is a portion of the basic inner reality. [...]

[...] The personal environment taken as a whole, with interpersonal relationships, is an indicator of the inner situation, however.

Within each of you there are truths that you do not know, realizations of inner reality. [...] It senses this inner knowledge, but it cannot understand it. It wants to see inner knowledge projected outward onto the physical reality then, to some extent, it will accept it and so through the eons that you know this inner knowledge, this inner vitality is projected outward onto history and onto historical events as you understand them. [...]

Now certain individuals, certain historical events, seem suddenly struck with inner brilliance. [...] They have extraordinary force, and this is the projection from the inner self of this inner light outward onto people and events. Now en masse there is an inner religious drama, if you will. An inner morality play if you want to use the term. [...]

Now this inner drama cannot be understood by the ego, and so it is projected outward into external reality. [...] All of the individuals living, in your terms, at that time have taken part in the same inner drama which is then exteriorized. [...]

[...] And so now you pretend a vulgar, earthy, frank, common behavior that does not fit the inner self and yet fools you on an egotistical basis very well. However, it also serves to blunt your own abilities and to cause inner behavior that, again, is not suited to your capacities for it causes you to pretend not to understand that which you do well understand and therefore to block from your ego information that is otherwise quite plain. [...]

[...] There are distortions because of the limitations of the outer senses, but the inner senses¹ do not distort. The inner senses inhabit directly the atmosphere of our value climate; they see through the ever-varying camouflage (physical) patterns, and the flux and flow of apparent change. [...]

Yet even these camouflage patterns must follow the basic rules of the inner universe, and reflect them, even if in a distortive manner. [...] So are all the other basic laws of the inner universe followed on every plane, and reflected from the most minute to the most gigantic spectrum.

Instead of promoting the idea of man’s inner worth, it has taught people to distrust the inner self and its manifestations. [...]

Amid such a conglomeration of negative suppositions, the idea of a good and innocent inner self seems almost scandalous. To encourage expression of that self appears foolhardy, for it seems only too clear that if the lid of consciousness were opened, so to speak, all kinds of inner demons and enraged impulses would rush forth.

(Long pause at 3:20.) Again, people who have such views of the inner self usually project the same ideas upon nature at large, so that the natural world appears equally mysterious, dangerous, and threatening.

[...] And when it is believed that the inner self is indeed a bed of chaotic impulses, then it becomes less and less possible for an individual to express normal ranges of activity. [...]

The nature of basic reality is known according to the degree to which it is directly experienced, and it can only be directly experienced through the use of the inner senses. The inner senses are of course utilized on your plane, as on any other, constantly. [...] And without the unconscious and constant use of the inner senses you could not even construct your precious camouflage patterned universe.

Such effects as levitation and teleportation, however, are qualities belonging to our next inner sense, which involves a momentary or temporary breaking up of certain camouflage patterns. This particular sense, which I hope to discuss at our next session, is not however the only inner sense that is concerned with what you are pleased to call transportation. It merely involves one of the simpler methods, but there are others belonging to other inner senses which you are not prepared as yet to understand.

[...] However, even in your own camouflage universe the development of the inner senses will get you further, and only the development of the inner senses will enable you to make any possible contact with intelligences on other than your own horizontal plane.

We have not completed by any means our outline on the inner senses. [...] Some data on the inner senses has to be withheld until you receive connecting information.

Some of the basic shapes in your physical universe are, therefore, reflections of these inner psychological structures, more or less reproduced in matter. These are in one sense certainly tangible to the inner self. It is these inner psychological structure patterns to a large degree that determine the shape and form of physical structures.

[...] Before physical construction can occur therefore, psychological perception, manipulation and construction of inner data or inner structures must be performed.

[...] The inner senses represent such psychological structures. [...]

[...] He grapples with, and manipulates and juggles these inner psychological shapes before constructing them, his version of them, into physical form.

(Seth began talking about the inner senses almost as soon as the sessions began, in December of 1963. [...] By the 60th session he had gone into some detail on 9 inner senses, 11 basic laws of the inner universe, and 3 properties of physical matter, along with the many other subjects included in the sessions. [...]

The inner senses are connected then to the physical mechanism. Sometimes inner perceptions may be touched off as a result of stimuli received through the outer senses. [...]

We have not discussed the inner senses in some time.

You should by now realize that they have an electric, magnetic reality also, and that the mental enzymes act as sparks, setting off these inner reactions.

The eye-opening activates the inner mechanism. [...] If those reasons change, or if inner psychic developments occur, (pause) then the physical eyes will be healed and the inner mechanism activated. [...] The inner banks of symbols, however, operate as a drawing account, latent unless you take advantage of them. [...]

[...] When you are at rest, awake but with eyes closed, images and pictures will often appear to your inner eye. [...]

There may seem to you to be no logic to these inner pictures, and certainly no connection between them and what you were thinking a moment before, or even an hour before. [...]

[...] In the following deep protected areas of sleep, the higher centers of the inner self are allowed to function and come to the aid of the three-dimensionally oriented portion of the personality. [...]

I said that the inner ego reasons, but its reasoning is not restricted to the cause-and-effect limitations that you apply to the reasoning process. The action of the inner ego within the wider sphere of Framework 2 explains many events and seeming coincidences that otherwise seem to make no sense within your world. [...]

There seems to be no reason for many of them, simply because the intricate inner communication systems of consciousness go utterly unrecognized, generally speaking.

[...] The inner ego (see the last session) is perfect as a term to suit my purposes. [...]

The inner ego has access, again, to a much vaster amount of knowledge. [...]

[...] The world of inner reality would then be imagined as existing at the other end of this tube. And in the same manner that one end of the tube would represent the extension of the self into the world of physical reality, then so too would the other end of this tube represent the extension of the self into the inner world of reality.

[...] You remember, I am sure, that I spoke of extension and contraction, along with other discussions on the inner senses. Communication with the inner self, communication with entities on another level can be approached from one or the other of two methods. [...]

[...] For simplicity’s sake you may say that ideas are electric, in that they spark enzymes within the mechanism, that then automatically begin the work of physical construction, in line with inner expectations as outlined earlier.

(Seth began referring to mental enclosures, mental enzymes, etc., many many sessions ago, at the same time he began to give the information on the inner senses. [...]
