[...] And yet we say that identity is retained, and yet even what we mean by the core of identity also constantly changes.

The one stability between self and what is notself, and the one and only difference, is not an identity that is part and parcel of constantly changing physical framework, not the outer ego whose conception of who it is constantly changes, according to its age and environment, but the inner self behind all physical constructions.

[...] The organs possess the combined consciousnesses of each of the cells within them, and in their way the organs sense their own identity.

In surface terms the sense of “I” that you possess is the result of constantly emerging probable identities, given continuity in time through the physical apparatus of the body with its built-in intervals of nerve reaction. You only remember the portion of your identity that is physically realized — those portions that are drawn into corporeal pattern. [...]

[...] Your life seems to have no past behind it or future ahead of it, so identity itself seems foreshortened. [...]

Now that particular feeling is relatively new in history as you understand it, for almost all cultures in the past have had their built-in extensions of identity that included a dimension of actuality of one kind or another, from which each individual emerged, and to which you would return. [...]

[...] There is identity. [...] Its identity has traveled back and forth from physical to nonphysical reality too often as a matter of course.

There are various levels all operating, various levels of consciousness and identity. [...]

Now, from your system spring some of the most advanced of all identities. [...]

Any true psychic development of personality, however, is bound to lead to an understanding of the nature of the psyche that is far too large for any such confusion of basic identity with sexuality. [...]

[...] They knew themselves to be themselves, but their identities were not as closely allied with their forms as is now the case.

I make these analogies because they are pertinent, yet I am aware that they can make you feel small or fear for your identity. [...]

[...] Your own present identity contains the knowledge and “memory” of all those simultaneous existences, even as the cells in their way retain memory of all those physical structures which they (have) formed. [...]

[...] You do your financial part with the books, but you still tie in your social identity with your painting, and to some extent you still feel that that social identity is dependent upon the money your “art” should produce, so you punish yourself by not enjoying your painting time. [...]

[...] Only by looking quietly within the self that you know can your own reality be experienced, with those connections that exist between the present or immediate self and the inner identity that is multidimensional.

I hope that in one way or another this book of mine has served to give each of you an introduction to the inner multidimensional identity that is your own.

The dreaming self as you conceive of it, however, is but a shadow of its own reality, for the dreaming self is a psychological point of reference and, in your terms, [of] continuity, that brings together all portions of your identity. They maintain overall identity however, and follow through, or keep track of, these individuals which are themselves. [...]

The separate incarnated personalities however are still separate identities. [...]

A dispersion has begun in which the ego will find it more and more difficult to hold energy within forms of personal identity, or to use energy for the purposes of the ego. [...]

Those that do not presently combine to form a complicated strong identity-pattern (hyphen) nevertheless still maintain the need for value fulfillment. [...]

(In Session 725 Seth discussed the spiritual aspects of our biological nature, and in Note 4 for that session I presented brief excerpts from the material he’d given in ESP class the night before, on the truly limitless “ceilings to the self” or identity.

[...] Your beliefs lead you to suppose that a natural bisexuality would result in the death of the family, the destruction of morals, rampant sexual crimes, and the loss of sexual identity. [...]

(Both of us were very glad to have Seth deliver this material on sex, as we’ve received many letters from men and women who were confused about their sexual identities, and often overwhelmed by feelings of guilt because of an orientation toward lesbianism or homosexuality.)
