“Seth material” search engine (Jane Roberts)

(On June 5, 1968 John Pitre telephoned Jane from Franklin, LA, seeking answers to three questions: the reasons for John’s uneasiness concerning his wife Peg last week; the reasons for the loss of leg feeling John experiences in hot weather; and data on a pilot, Albert Blevins, who vanished on a flight in a small plane near the Gulf Coast about four years ago, presumably near Franklin.

These are impressions. (Long pause, eyes closed, then open.) A death by drowning, rather than fire. A number, one three. Something seen but not reported, by a man owning or working in a small store that sells tackle; and either rents out boats, or did. (Pause.) He did not realize the implications, the immediacy, of an object pulled up as he pushed. This was in the gulf. The 13 mentioned earlier may possibly refer to highway numbers (pause) of a road running past the tackle shop.

There is a current underground, underwater, that captured the wreckage. (Long pause.) The body of the pilot was not so captured however. The gulf here is more narrow, or there is an island here. The plane did not fall in the middle of a huge expanse—perhaps between the mainland and another shore. Is that clear?

(Pause.) The pilot intended to try and bail out over the land. Very shortly here the gulf is wide again. A town perhaps beginning with a B or P, that sound. Take your break.

[...] You focus upon the gulf between your ideals and your experience, until the gulf is all that is real. [...]

[...] In that life I learned to understand the interplay between men and their ambitions, the gulf that often exists between ideals and practical action.

(Pause in a forceful delivery.) You may begin to exaggerate the gulf between this generalized ideal and the specific evidences of man’s “greed and corruption” that you see so obviously about you. [...]

[...] Many individuals cannot unify the various areas of their belief and feeling, and at Christmas they partially recognize the vast gulf that exists between their scientific beliefs and their religious beliefs. [...]

So the Christmas season carries a man’s hopes in your society, and the flu season mirrors his fears and shows the gulf between the two.

[...] I spoke on television, and you were both appalled at the gulf between what you saw as the idealized message of our work, and the ludicrous (pause) lack of integrity of the environment in which that ideal was expressed. [...]

Remember also, in your terms now, the great gulf that separates you as a self from those cells that physically compose you. [...]

[...] There was a vast gulf between those two extremes—one that was bound to cause strain and effort and misunderstandings. [...]

The idea [of democracy] expresses the existence of a high idealism — one that demands political and social organizations that are effective to some degree in providing some practical expression of those ideals (emphatically). When those organizations fail and a gulf between idealism and actualized good becomes too great, then such conditions help turn some idealists into fanatics. [...]

[...] Yet the idea is still a belief about reality, and so there will be invisible gulfs in his experience of which he is ignorant.

(8:38.) He concentrated upon the vast gulf that seemed to separate the idealized good and the practical, ever-pervading corruption that in his eyes grew by leaps and bounds. [...]

[...] Vast gulfs exist between one man’s reality and another’s. After death, experience has as much organization, highly intricate and involved, as you know now. [...]

[...] The god-versus-devil, angels-versus-demons — the gulf between animals and angels — all of these distortions are impediments. [...]

[...] I do not want to define his existence by those attitudes alone, however, for when he forgets the great gulf between his idealism and practical life, and speaks about other activities, then he is full of charming energy. [...]

[...] Currently the two are arguing over territorial rights concerning a waterway between them that flows into the Persian Gulf; Iran and Iraq have exchanged border clashes for several months now, and each country has threatened heavier military action against the other.

[...] It is fairly easy to insert the idea of water, but this may lead him personally to think of the Gulf of Mexico, or the ocean off of Marathon, or even of the Atlantic at York Beach. [...]

[...] These concerned John’s uneasy feeling about his wife Peg, last week; the strange loss of feeling in his legs in hot weather; and an effort to learn something from Seth about a pilot who disappeared some four years ago in a light plane near John’s hometown, Franklin, LA, which is close to the Gulf of Mexico.

[...] I tried to explain what had happened, realizing for the first time the vast gulf between words and subjective feelings. [...]

[...] Looking out from the hill in Perspective Two, Perspective One was invisibly behind him, and Perspective Three was still “ahead” of him, separated from him by a gulf he did not understand.

[...] Therefore the gulf between man and animals, the intellect and nature, seems to deepen.
