(3. Appendix 10 [for Session 692], on Jane’s efforts to make a “middle ground” between the extremes of society’s reactions to her psychic abilities: rejection by the conventionally closed-minded at one end, and gullible acceptance at the other.

[...] His material enhances my Roman and Jamaican visions [and others] — which saves me considerable effort in figuring them out for myself, of course. [...]

[...] We obtained this written account from them later, and in the course of checking data with them several times Jane and I soon realized much effort could be saved by getting a written account as soon as possible after any such experiment.

[...] Jane and I made an effort to obtain detailed answers to Seth’s statements, and Peggy cooperated in excellent fashion. [...]

[...] Jane was living her challenges just like each one of us does, and her efforts were inextricably bound up with the world even as, I was sure, we were creating our human versions of the earth and its own reality. [...]

[...] And, dear readers, the participation of each one of you in those efforts help make that possible. [...]

[...] And riding her old-fashioned secondhand bicycle she also sold cutlery and household supplies door-to-door for two out-of-town manufacturers, and did well at those efforts, too! [...]

[...] We’ll have to resolve our great challenges through voluntary group and international efforts, though. [...]

Now you should understand why even an impeding action can be literally accepted by the personality as a part of itself and why efforts must be made to coax the personality to give up a portion of itself, if progress is to be made.

[...] It was amazingly oppressive, and kept up its efforts to drag me farther away from my body into the bedroom closet.

[...] As Seth, she stared at me; I stared back, making no effort to take the call. [...]

[...] On the other hand the effort to communicate explanations does involve a very real endeavor on my part. [...]

[...] A certain reassembly of myself is necessary when I enter your plane, and this is done partially by myself, and by the combined subconscious efforts of you, Joseph, and Ruburt. [...]

[...] If I take so much of your time this evening, it is only because I know the effort on your part will result in beneficial aftermaths that will more than repay you for this weighty schedule.

[...] As I’ve tried to show in these essays, we didn’t suspend our efforts to reach into that larger framework. [...]

[...] So closely do those 13 sessions fit together that it’s most difficult to give excerpts.⁵ Seth’s magical-approach material represents one of his best efforts to help us, as well as others. [...]

[...] Seeing it cheered Jane—yet my wife continued to hassle [as she put it] her efforts on Magical Approach, asking herself again and again whether she really wanted to do that book. [...]

[...] Early in February she wrote an essay on Seth as a “master event.”⁴ That piece was inspired by her material in an old journal; Jane elaborated upon it in an effort to fit events from our own lives into our national consciousness. [...]

[...] In the meantime, the plan that spontaneously came to me on that last day of her own effort, on June 22, was to present a page or two of her sinful-self material here, then repeat it, along with other excerpts, in the Introduction I’ve already mentioned that I must write for Dreams.¹⁷
