[...] A few nights later, evidently after I’d been wondering how much the bill would be I had a dream in color, in which I was informed of the amount of the bill —$800-odd dollars. [...] I was shocked—so much so that I woke up after the brief little dream, for my best guess had been that the bill would be between $400 and $500. I told myself that the figure I’d been given in the dream was much too high. [...]

(I didn’t tell Jane about the dream. I haven’t made any effort to record dreams since her illness, simply not focusing on that activity. I’ve recalled portions of some very vivid dreams, also involving my parents, but haven’t spontaneously remembered them in full detail as I usually do. [...]

[...] Instantly I remembered the dream, while being appalled at the size of the bill. The dream had given me “true information,” then—a forewarning, if one wants to take it that way. [...] The bill was printed on blue and white paper and unfolded as in my dream also.

[...] Jane said that while I was shopping today she’d dreamed or felt herself walking around the card table—not perfectly straight, but as though testing her weight upon her legs. [...]

The creative abilities have full reign within the dream state, and it is here that the personality first tests its creative intensities and methods. The personality’s physical environment therefore is greatly colored and formed by his dream existence. There is some leakage from waking-life experience to dream experience, but this leakage usually represents the material needed, or the problem to be solved. Mental events and dream events are primary. The individual first manipulates situations within the dream reality, and then transposes his characteristic method of handling them upon the physical reality.

In many cases he perceives in a dream a future physical event, and then within the dream situation acts out various possible solutions, until he hits upon the most agreeable one. In the dream state the personality actually has at its command a stupendous amount of subconscious information of which the ego is not aware. It is actually more practical therefore to seek the solution in the dreaming state, or in periods of dissociation if you prefer. [...]

It is true, as Ruburt has discovered, that these dream elements are interwound. Events are indeed clairvoyantly perceived in the dream state. On the other hand in many instances the sleeping personality solves a problem, and therefore causes the physical event because it is the result of the dream work involved.

[...] In the dream state as in the waking state, experiences vary in their intensity. [...] Transitions are more rare in the dream state, since physical time lapses are not necessary.

The dream world was bound to waken, however, for that was the course it had set itself upon. [...] In the terms of this discussion the other creatures of the earth actually awakened before man did, and relatively speaking, their dream bodies formed themselves into physical ones before man’s did. The animals became physically effective, therefore, while to some degree man still lingered in that dream reality.

[...] Along with Dreams, Jane is back working on If We Live Again and God of Jane. [...]

[...] [I didn’t.] Then later today she reread all of the material Seth has given on Dreams.)

[...] (Pause.) While men had their dream bodies alone they enjoyed a remarkable freedom, of course, for those bodies did not have to be fed or clothed. [...]

(It is Seth’s interpretation of Jane’s very interesting dream of this morning, and was given after he had finished dictation for the evening on Chapter 22 of his book: Seth Speaks—A Goodbye and an Introduction.

[...] In the dream he follows you where he wants to go, but he needs your confidence to help lead him.

The dream has several aspects. [...]

He was afraid he would be turned upside down, and in the dream he was before he attained the top. [...]

In the AM the dream instantly reminded me of an almost completely different opposite dream, a nightmare that I had just about the time my eye troubles and other difficulties began in earnest: It was in the spring when I was doing James. [...] In last night’s dream I wasn’t frightened, just refused and gave my reasons. [...]

Last PM I remembered the following dream that is very simple but, I feel, important. [...]

JANE’S DREAM

[...] the dreams also provide additional assurance, and while dreaming body states are altered—something physicians of course do not recognize. The existence of Sumari physicians will make sense when we finish our discussion of inward orders of reality and the dream state.

The process occurring now began in a dream state, was further accelerated this morning, and further so in the relaxation just before the session. [...] It is also connected with what we were talking about this evening, since the initiation for this particular event was dream oriented.

[...] The dreams provide a steady give-and-take between conscious and so-called unconscious activity. [...]

[...] Background: Last PM Seth gave a session for me and this dream seems to be in direct response to it. [...] Then I had this dream:

DREAM MARCH 5, TUESDAY

[...] In dream, he stands for authority; he was also quite a drunk. [...]

Later insights disconnected from dream come to me during the day:

[...] I added that I was trying to avoid projecting any hassles with Dreams into the future, in line with the session for the day before [February 1], though I was aware that some of what I was saying contradicted elements of that session. [...] I do want to get Dreams done as soon as possible, and will not be getting into any fixes of a similar nature in the years to come.

In regard to your dream: The shakiness represented values and ideas from your mother, primarily about work — beliefs you always felt were shaky. In the dream you manage to circumnavigate their effects. [...]

[...] I told her I brought Session 903 of Dreams with me so I could ask her a couple of questions. [...]

[...] I already regretted the time I was spending on the session for Dreams.

Dream of last night**** I dreamed that my entire head was being completely cleared, despite all laws or rules to the contrary... I think the healing was taking place as I dreamed; that is, that the dream may have involved an actual physical experience too. [...]

In color as usual: Another return-to-Sayre dream. [...] The dream was quite long and involved but I can describe here only one small portion. [...]

[...] In the dream Ralph, who is quite tall (6’4”) and thin and wiry, needed some shorts to wear for work. [...] He didn’t seem upset and wasn’t as old in the dream as he would be now; still blonde.

ROB’S DREAM

[...] Much of the most pertinent information, in fact, was memorized by trainees during the dream condition, and passed on in the same manner. These unwritten manuscripts therefore were also illustrated, so to speak, by dream journeys or field trips into other kinds of reality. [...] Some Speakers confine their abilities to the dream state; and, waking, are largely unconscious of their own abilities or experience.

[...] They are highly creative on an unconscious level, constantly forming psychic frameworks beneath normal consciousness that can be used both by themselves and others in dream and trance states. They often appear to others in the dream condition, and they help dreamers in the manipulation of inner reality. [...]

(Pause at 9:40.) Now it is meaningless to call such dreams or dream places hallucinations, for they are representations of definite “objective” realities that you cannot perceive as yet in their own guise. [...]

[...] Outside of your own framework, houses as such or dwellings as such are not needed, and yet in trance encounters or dream encounters with other realities, such structures are frequently seen. [...]

“I think that I brought my magical insight into consciousness also because of some of my recent dreams, that seem to contain precognitive and/or clairvoyant elements. The Brenner dream is one of those. Jane has been doing invaluable work for me recently, interpreting those dreams. Indeed, she’s the one who’s dug up many of the dream and real-life connections.

(9:15.) The dream made its point, whether or not you read the article that later appeared (in the Elmira paper). The dream made its point, in fact, whether or not you remembered it, though you did. [...] The portion of you that formed the dream knew of the pollution; but also knew of the award, the newspaper article, and of your habit of reading the evening’s paper. [...]

You are also somewhat idealizing the past, however, so you did not simply get the information “straight on,” but you received it in such a fashion that it made its own psychological points also, and was furthermore wound into other action not only within that dream, but in a series of dreams.

The physical explorations of your planet followed such dream information in one way or another. [...] In the dream state information is not immediately checked against the environment. It may be raining in a dream but your sleeping body remains dry. Your dreams largely involve conditions that were physical, or conditions that might be physical. [...]

In the past, farmers used dreams to plant their crops, and weather dreams were very popular—that is, people actually dreamed about the weather in the past because of their concern and their more intimate relationship with the natural environment. Times of famine were indeed predicted in dreams and guarded against. [...]

If you think the paper will give you tomorrow’s weather, and only an issue of whether or not to carry an umbrella is involved, then you do not feel the same impetus, or a precognitive dream about the weather. Farmers still have such dreams more often than others. [...]

Cultures of diverse natures communicate in ways impossible otherwise, and all of the great explorations of one country by another have involved prior dream contact.

Two and a half years ago I wrote in the closing notes for Session 869, in Chapter 10 of Mass Events, that she had finally received from Seth the full title for this book: Dreams, “Evolution,” and Value Fulfillment. Mass Events was published eight months ago, and we have been receiving a steady flow of inquiries as to when Dreams will be issued. [...]

Neither of us expected that Seth would develop his session out of that idea—or even that he would give material for Dreams. [...]

I have not given you a multitude of methods or suggestions, telling you how to decipher or understand your own dreams, though I have mentioned such topics often in this book and others.

I do not want you to think that the answers to your questions lie prepackaged in the dream state, either, relatively inaccessible except to those (long pause) who possess unique talents or some secretive knowledge of the world of the occult. [...]

At first, in your terms, all of probable reality existed as nebulous dreams within consciousness of All That Is. Later the unspecified nature of these “dreams,” in quotes, grew more particular and vivid. The dreams became recognizable one from the other, until they drew the conscious notice of All That Is. And with curiosity and yearning, All That Is paid more and more attention to his own dreams.

The pressure, in one way, came from two sources; from the conscious (underlined) but still probable individual selves who found themselves alive in a God’s dream, and from the God who yearned to release them. On the other hand you could say that the pressure existed simply on the part of the God, since the creation existed within his dream. But in these terms such tremendous power resides in such primary pyramid gestalts that even their dreams are endowed with vitality and reality. [...]

[...] Yet all individuals remember their source, and now dream of All That Is, as All That Is once dreamed of them. [...]

[...] He gave consciousness and imagination to individuals while they still were but within his dreams. [...]

“Seth used Session 909 as a bridge between chapters 6 and 7 in Dreams. This means that now the session serves as a connective—a very effective lure, say—between volumes 1 and 2. Indeed, in retrospect it almost seems as though Seth, that ‘energy personality essence,’ planned it that way! And Jane and I look forward with intense interest to the final version of Dreams, for as always this work will be as revealing and educational for us as it will be for anybody else. Some of my descriptive passages in Dreams as I deal with Jane’s personal challenges are harrowing; they strike at the very heart of our fears of illness and disability, and even death, leading us to consciously face those possibilities while at the same time they perfectly mirror our equally profound inner needs and drives. In Dreams I’m presenting the account of Jane’s struggles with her “physical symptoms” in the clearest light I can manage. [...]

As soon as I realized that Dreams, “Evolution,” and Value Fulfillment was going to be so long that it would require publication in two volumes, I began to think about how I was going to summarize here all of the material that Jane, Seth, and I had contributed to Volume 1. I developed the hilarious notion that if I did the job the way I really wanted to, this introduction would be as long as that first volume is itself! [...]

You come into awareness of a dream, and you leave awareness of a dream, but the dreams that you seem to dream tonight have been long in existence, in your terms of time. [...]

As there is in actuality no beginning or end to a dream, so there is no beginning or end to any reality. A dream does not then begin and end, only your awareness of a dream begins and ends.

You indeed create your own dreams, as you realize, Joseph. Nevertheless, you do not create your own dreams during a specific point in time. The beginnings, to use that distortive term again, the beginnings of dreams reach back into past lives of which you are not aware, and beyond even this the origins are part of a heritage before your planet even existed.

[...] I have said that any of you and all of you create a dream universe of validity, actuality, durability, and for Philip's benefit, self-determination, in the same manner that the entity projects the reality of its various personalities. As there is no contact between the entity and the ordinary conscious ego, so there is no contact on a conscious level between the self who dreams and the dream world which has its own independent existence.

Since this book is about the dream state, including dream projections, this is not the place to compare waking, trance and dream projections. I simply hope to show some of the types of projections possible from the dream state. [...]

[...] I’ve had several such “dreams,” and I know that they are completely different from ordinary ones. For one thing, the critical abilities are functioning and in normal dreams they are not. Like mine, Sue’s records are full of notes concerning the effort needed to maintain consciousness at the required level and to prevent falling off into a regular dream state.

[...] I knew I wasn’t dreaming. At the time I remembered asking Jane in the past how you could distinguish between dream projection and dreams. [...]

[...] You can also suggest dreams in which you are flying in an airplane and tell yourself then that you will waken from the dream and project. You will know the plane to be a dream image, but be able to retain it for your convenience if you want, so that you do not fear falling at first.

(Long pause at 4:16.) You mentioned the paternal feelings of your dream. They allowed you to expand your experience while in the dream state. This also presents you with an example of the ways in which early man expanded his own knowledge and experience in the dream state. In the same way, as mentioned in Dreams, man also had dream images of actual geographical locations to which he had not physically traveled.

(4:19 p.m. Neither of us had particularly thought that my dream-paternal feelings represented an analogy with the way early man had expanded his own knowledge while in the dream state — but we saw the connection as soon as Seth mentioned it. [...]

(I also told Jane about the entertaining time I’d had this morning checking Biblical genealogies, preparatory to the note I want to write for Chapter 5 of Dreams. [...]

(A note: I still feel the effects of my dream of two nights ago, involving Del and Jean Longwell.)

(I described my dream of the other day, which I’d already told Jane about: I’d been sitting on our couch with Jane and our neighbor, Joe Bumbalo. [...] Margaret, Joe’s wife, wasn’t in the dream. Briefly, at the time of the dream, I’d wondered if it hinted at something happening to either of them — Joe or Margaret, that is.)

(4:33 p.m. “That makes that a pretty good little dream, then,” I told Jane, for in the dream she, too, had been fully recovered. Jane did remember my telling her about the dream earlier this week. [...]

(Now for the little dream I had while napping. [...] I dreamed that I received a call from a clerk at the bank. [...]

(Before I turned her on her side, and then took a nap, I tried without success to locate my description of the dream with Jane and Joe in a previous recent session. [...]
