All portions of the self are indeed conscious, and they are also basically conscious of each other, though for working purposes they may seem to be separate or isolated.

[...] You are not separated from the animals and the rest of existence by virtue of possessing an eternal inner consciousness. Such a consciousness is present within all living beings, and in all forms.

By now, we were both convinced that the human mind or consciousness had abilities and methods of perception far beyond those we had thought possible. The incident, the handy incident which gave rise, or rather the incident which allowed the personality to project the symptom finally, in this instance occurred on a Saturday afternoon, and is not remembered consciously by the personality (Louie), and was not known to anyone else.

The incident, and I will mention it but consciously it will mean nothing, the incident represented the individual’s final success after many failures to bring forth circumstances that would then allow, or seem to cause, the peculiar set of symptoms that he felt necessary in order to repay old debts.
