(This remnant, saved by one of Jane’s students, is all that is left from one of the few class sessions that were either lost or not fully recorded. [...]

BEFORE JUNE 23, 1970

(A note by R.F.B.: Jane had formally ended her ESP classes by March 1975, when we moved from our downtown apartments in Elmira, New York, to the hill house at the edge of the city. [...]

[...] Last year one of my students was taking a psychology course in the local college night sessions, and with the professor’s encouragement, she frequently discussed Seth and our ESP classes. [...] She wanted to record it and play it for the college class.

Then Seth addressed the members of the college class for whom the recording would be played. We all thought, later, that this session was hilarious in one way—a personality invisible in our terms, addressing an absent psychology class on the nature of personality! [...]

Not too long ago, a young psychology professor called and asked me to speak to his class at the local college. [...]

(Jane dressed for class, and the symptoms didn’t worsen. She told me at a break in class that after the first few minutes she began to feel much better. [...] Jane also told me that she liked class—we had discussed her dropping it soon—and that she intended to be “freer” in it from now on; and that the tooth thing would be conquered. [...]

(At about 6 PM, an hour before ESP class, the symptoms returned to a lesser degree. [...]

(Concerning Jane’s difficulty in getting the ESP class members to succeed in moving the large living room table, in the Tuesday night class. The Thursday afternoon class moves the same table easily.)

For Ruburt’s class try the following combinations with the large table: Venice, Paul and Sheryl; Shirley, Venice and Sheryl; Ruth, Joan and Paul. Ruburt for this class should keep one definite place at the table for his own. [...]

[...] I wanted you to know that I was here, but I also wanted you to know that I am keeping an eye out for your experiments in class and when you are not in class sometimes. [...]

[...] You have our Lady of Florence to thank that there are classes here, for Ruburt would not think of them in the beginning, and it was our friend, who you think is too intellectual and not intuitional, who suggested the classes in the first place to Ruburt and opened his mind so that he would follow my suggestions. (During class Davey related some of his experiences while training as a parapsychologist. [...]

Now Ruburt did not know what he was going to speak about this evening and half of his talk in class is automatic, as you know, but it was no coincidence that he became involved in his talk of power and energy for you had a deep distrust of your own energy to sway people as a salesman (to Davey) as you had a distrust of your ability to sway people as a minister (to Joel) and as you also have the same feeling (to Davey), for what happens is this. [...]

(To Davey.) I will turn around so that you can see me better, and now I will return to our friend Ruburt, and you are welcome to our class. [...]

“As I lay down for my usual nap this afternoon, I reminded myself that Jane was to hold her ESP class this evening. [...] (On class night we eat supper by 6:00; students often begin to arrive by 7:15, although class doesn’t begin until 8:00.) So what happened? [...]

(Jane held her ESP class that same evening. Long after class break toward the end of the night, I presented my fourth Roman by reading from the notes just given. Class members passed my sketches around. [...]

(And — almost too much — another strange incident was mentioned in the same class. A student I’ll call Mary told me about just having met a black woman [in a most prosaic night-school class] who looked “exactly like” my drawing of Maumee,¹⁴ the woman in my Jamaica experience of three weeks ago. (Neither Jane or I could remember what Monday evening’s session is all about — even though I’d read part of it from my “shorthand” notes to the members of ESP class last night. [...]

Most of the people who come to Ruburt’s classes are Sumari,⁷ for example. [...]

[...] Most of the people are members of Jane’s class; some have met certain of their counterparts, but not others; Jane, Sue, and I are the only ones who know everyone Seth named. [...]
