ESP CLASS SESSION, APRIL 6, 1971
TUESDAY

During the time that he was working on his book, I was writing four hours a day on a book of my own, conducting my weekly ESP class, and finding myself swamped by the correspondence that followed publication of The Seth Material. I also began holding a weekly class in creative writing.

[...] Almost all of my students have frequent “class dreams,” also, in which Seth addresses them as a group and initiates dream experiments. [...]

[...] The closest I’ve come to explaining my own views was in a short intuitive statement I wrote for my ESP class, as I tried to clear my ideas for myself and my students as well. [...]

“In class (and in life, generally,) I think we are responding to such messages, sometimes acting them out with almost childlike wisdom, forming them into dramas that are original and individualistic — dramas that arouse within us meanings that cannot be put into words.

[...] Ruburt’s decision in regard to his classes is a good one. There will be no difficulty in holding students, or in keeping the same income, with only one class.

At one time two classes met certain needs. [...]

(I slept rather uneasily, waking up several times while class was still in progress. Finally, I was hazily aware of hearing the cars of class members as they pulled out of the parking lot next to the house. [...]

(Quietly amused:) Now, with that simple explanation, when you know your brothers will visit, you instantly leap to the old beliefs of childhood, when your mother wanted you to set an example—which meant be someone in society, in normal middle-class society, now. [...]

[...] If all a man can do to “prove his value” is to put a bolt in a car, or drive a truck, or even teach a class, then he is very careful that that contribution be noticed, and that a definite value be given it. [...]

[...] The overly conscientious self however is also the teacher, and in the classes the two elements do to some extent combine with some overall benefit. [...]

The psychic classes have been of help for this reason. [...]

[...] It realizes it is in jeopardy however, and the classes have served to open a wedge of understanding.

(Jane has had some rather brief sessions in ESP class during the interim.)

(Class had been discussing dream realities, personality, etc., for about an hour; Pat and Sheila began talking back and forth on Sheila’s ideas on separate personalities, when Jane interrupted to say that she had the impression that the “hole in the universe” had opened up in Dr. Sam Levine’s house next-door and a crowd of people were flying from it into the room. [...]

(“It is with this always we began and we begin our classes. [...]

(Much later, and softly: “Thank you for coming to our class.”)

[...] These secrets, as our friend here told Ruburt, that you have told in class, that have had such weight to some of you, how dare any of you hold these secrets up between yourselves and All That Is and the experience that is waiting for you and available? [...]

(During break class agreed Seth was more formal tonight.)

[...] And so your own development follows your inner dictates, both when you are alone, and when you are in class. [...]

Rev. Lowe and his wife came on a class night, and so of course I invited them to attend. I try to keep classes as informal as possible. [...]

[...] Strangely enough, he did give such information once in a class to three college girls who clearly did not believe in reincarnation to begin with. They had just begun classes, and while they were curious about ESP, they had little patience with the theory of reincarnation—before the session, that is.

[...] In the beginning, I’d jokingly introduced the minister as a rock drummer, to put both him and the class at ease. [...]

[...] After this he spoke to various class members, and then invited Rev. Lowe to ask whatever questions came to his mind.

(Even so, her use of energy in ESP class Tuesday night was remarkable once again; she alternated between Seth and singing in Sumari throughout the evening.

In a recent ESP class session, however, Seth said: “There is nothing more deadly than nirvana. [...]

The collection will include our family trees; my father’s journals and photographs; Jane’s and my own grade-school, high-school, college, and family data; our youthful creative efforts in writing and painting; the comic books and other commercial artwork I produced; our early published and unpublished short stories; my original notes for the sessions; session transcripts, whether published or unpublished, “regular,” private, or from ESP class; tapes, including those made in class of Jane speaking for Seth and/or singing in Sumari; our notes, dream records, journals, and manuscripts; our sketches and paintings; Jane’s extensive poetry; our business correspondence; books, contracts, and files; newsletters about the Seth material, published in the United States and abroad (independently of Jane and me); the greater number of letters from readers—in short, a mass of material showing how our separate beginnings flowed together and resulted in the production of a joint lifework.

Now, the deliberation with which you speak, in class and to those with whom you work, has to do with the fact that in the past, as I mentioned earlier, you memorized a code of ethics, and you had to be deliberate as you recalled this code and then told it to others. [...]
