You may have a dangerous drug or alcohol problem, or you may be married to someone who does. In both instances the situations will be caused by your own beliefs, even though this may at first seem most unlikely. For the purposes of this particular chapter, we will discuss illnesses or situations that have arisen since childhood, so we are not including birth defects or very early life-endangering childhood accidents, or most unfortunate childhood family situations. These will be discussed separately.

[...] You are not under a sentence placed upon you for original sin, by any childhood events, or by past-life experience. [...]

I had known of her psychic gifts since her childhood, but the insights necessary were channeled through the poetry until the personality attained the necessary background that was needed in this particular case. [...]

THE STATE OF CHILDHOOD IN
RELATIONSHIP TO HEALTH, AND HINTS FOR PARENTS

We will begin the next chapter, which is to be called: “The State of Childhood in Relationship to Health, and Hints for Parents.”

For now we will speak of children who possess ordinary good health, but who may also have some of the usual childhood “diseases.” [...]

The thoughts of children give excellent clues as to mankind’s nature, but many adults do not remember any childhood thoughts except those that fit, or seem to fit, in with their beliefs about childhood.

Such negative patterns in childhood cause adults to be frightened of freedom—because freedom seems to imply a threat to life and to health. [...]

In this deceptively simple but moving poem about her magical childhood responses to the world she lived in, Jane foreshadows from that viewpoint the innate knowledge she was to express a quarter of a century later in the Seth material. [...]

The natural experiences of what you think of as time distortion, for example, occurring in childhood and old age alike, represent quite normal experiences of your basic “time environment” — much more so than the clock time with which you are so familiar.

If the members of such a rigid group believe that youth is innocent, then they will deny sexual experience as having any place in childhood, and alter their own memories to fit their beliefs.

Since they are often frightened and unsure of the future, they are more apt to cast their thoughts backwards into their early childhoods, reaching for their earliest memories, and mentally try to gain comfort from the remembered sounds of beloved voices, only to mentally glimpse other images than they expected, or to hear other voices than those for which they yearned.
