Ruburt’s body is allowing itself to relax, particularly on the couch when his back is supported. Tension is being relieved, and often this sudden lessening of tension also frightens him. It is excellent therapy on the part of the body, of a fairly temporary nature. Its breaks down, however, many strong elements of control after control continually being applied. These are of excellent benefit.
There is no doubt, however, that at times Ruburt becomes quite frightened, and the fear of course represents the fear that still lingers concerning the nature of spontaneous action. Rigidity is drained from the body by such methods. He is safe, supported and protected—that is, of course, the message that he is trying to get through his head at this time. You can be of help to him by reminding him of that support and protection. The body knows what it is doing (emphatically).
It is embarked upon different processes now as it searches for the best conditions for self-healing procedures. His ideas as he tried to explain them to you earlier this evening are excellent. They remove him psychologically, particularly with your help, as he discusses them. The Sinful Self material is “timed” in its own fashion so that although there is a good deal of material already written, its effects are periodic—that is, they are clued to spring into even greater insight which may not be apparent at any one given time. The material acts like a time pill, for example.
He should keep in mind, say, to type several pages or so, put it with the other work, and let again several days pass. Some of that material will bring the reasons for his panic into clearer light, however, and so then will make even more sense than it might have a month ago. He is doing well dealing with that.
(Long pause at 9:04.) There is no doubt that differing portions of Ruburt’s body are quite comfortable, and far more flexible, when he relaxes in such a fashion. He does well to move about in his chair, as he does often, exercising when he is alone. He can do more of that to his advantage. It is important that he tells you when he does feel panicky. However, the feeling itself does not last long.
(Pause.) Give us a moment.... (Long pause, eyes closed.) This advice, simple as it sounds, will lead toward further insights on his part. Relaxation, again, is a part of the creative process. It is the means whereby body and mind refresh themselves. Your talk this afternoon covered many excellent points. It is the nitty-gritty of his basic feelings that Ruburt has been encountering.

This session will also be brief. I want Ruburt to see, however, that healing is taking place, that he can trust his own mind and body, and that all portions of the self are being dealt with, whether or not such is obvious at any given time. Our material on such points is not fiction.

Unfortunately, in your society you need every good suggestion you can get, to offset fears and negative conditioning. Ruburt needs time to give himself a few suggestions in the morning, to start up his journal again, even to paint if he wants in a framework in which he allows himself that much freedom. Forget the rigors of publishing or whatever (intently). He does not have to publish a book every year on the button. The creative material will flow. It flows as a result of his own characteristic nature. It is safe to express that nature. It is even safe to explore that nature, and it is safe to allow himself to take some comfort in the source of being.
(9:26.) The same advice, with suitable variations, could be given to anyone, of course, and be equally pertinent. His energy will flow through him easily and naturally and safely as he perceives that such is nature’s way. (Long pause.) You have been of excellent support of late. Allow yourself at times to imagine, at least, an important portion of your own creative self as innocent, sweet (gesture), and natural as that young Butts boy relative (Steve). That is, think of that childish self as eagerly exploring the world, for that is certainly a part of man’s heritage.
