(I thought, then, that much of the time most people simply get well through an unwitting trust in their bodies to heal themselves. Obviously this didn’t always apply, since some people became chronically ill, or died, or suffered devastating illnesses —but for the most part whatever helpings they managed to achieve came about through subconscious mental and bodily processes. If and when they worked out solutions to their problems, they did so quite unknowingly. In retrospect I believe this question was triggered by remarks Jane made about insights she’d achieved through her manifesto from the Sinful Self.

(We had a discussion about my questions, and I expressed pretty definitely the emotional charge I’ve accumulated over the years about the whole affair. Jane said several times that she understood my feelings, but that at the same time I was misunderstanding what she’d written that day [Friday]. I could see that she was disappointed in my reactions to her day’s work, and she said as much.

(The swollen condition of her feet still concerned me, although I’ve kept in mind Seth’s material on that situation and feel better about it. I’ve managed to turn my thoughts away from such worries rather successfully lately, yet when they do return they can’t but help cause concern, so conditioned are we toward anything unusual about the body’s behavior representing a state of illness or unease. I only hoped Seth was correct about her feet, for indeed they’re more enlarged than ever, especially the right foot.
(Today I did order 8 oz. of DMSO gel, responding to an ad in the local paper Saturday. We’d expected to see a long article on DMSO in the paper, written by Peggy Gallagher, but it wasn’t printed: Over the phone today Peg told Jane the article was put off until next weekend because of space limitations. Peg has interviewed many local doctors—and others—about the analgesic properties of DMSO, and we want to read the article before trying the product ourselves. But in the meantime the order is going through, so we’ll be prepared. Much caution will be necessary, I told Jane.
(Jane had no direct questions for Seth, as usual, she said, unless he wanted to comment upon the DMSO question. She has been sleeping pretty well for the most part these days, but has had a great deal of soreness in her arms [and some spontaneous jerking movements accompanied by shooting pains; it seems the arms are lengthening somewhat]. The arm discomfort makes it quite difficult for her to move from either of her chairs to the bed and/or couch, however.

Generally speaking, the best policy to pursue is to concentrate not upon the problem but upon its possible solutions, and this process can be a rather intense one. Then, as much as possible (underlined), the situation should be dropped for a period, concentration purposely directed as much as possible elsewhere. Thus giving the creative inner self the time and opportunity to let the entire physical system accelerate its own healing processes, and to begin again with the initiation of impulses, dreams, and so forth that will help bring a physical improvement about.

(Pause at 8:48.) Then a lack of communication developed, so that various portions of the personality “hardened” their own positions, sometimes holding quite different sets of beliefs. The communication of the Sinful Self’s document is almost one of its most important values. Its beliefs may be exaggerated, but at one time or another various other portions of the personality at least weakly entertained a portion of them. They are also held together by a sense of earnestness and duty (with a mock-severe frown)—quite misapplied, but still characteristics hardly foreign to the personality as a whole—so these are misunderstandings to be addressed and understood, and the main issue should be an understanding of those issues specifically mentioned, so that the issues are met in the open and aired on the part of the entire personality (all often with emphasis).
It is important that the creative self understands what has been going on also. In such a way the various portions of the personality can reinforce and help each other, and the Sinful Self can see that the creative elements are not blind to its worries, but will also use its abilities to help discover explanations and answers to the questions of the so-called Sinful Self.

There have been several signs of excellent cooperation between portions of the self—as when issues raised or discussed by the Sinful Self then initiated dreams or other psychic behavior in response. The concentration should not be, again then, on the problems. It should not be on any accusations, but on the recognition of the communication itself, and to those specific issues mentioned. These should be given direct consideration.

(Long pause.) The more stimuli, thoughts, desires and material of a diverse nature brought into the system—within reason—the greater the amount of material the inner self has to work with and put together in its own creative fashions—but do remember those sessions given that remind Ruburt that his body can indeed recover, that he can indeed trust his body’s processes, and that he should not compare his life with anyone else’s, but trust in the entire fabric of his existence, and you indeed should trust the entire fabric of your own.
