(Jane was bleary—really “out of it”—when she said that she’d try for a session at 8:55. She didn’t feel Seth around and had no idea what he might talk about, or whether the session would be long or short. As we waited I explained to her a few things about the political fighting in San Salvador; I’d just finished typing the last, 930th session, wherein I’d referred to the attached news clippings about that country’s travails. I thought the session, on the behavior of nations, excellent, and that San Salvador could almost be a test example of what Seth had talked about.

(The evening was very cold—10° —as we sat for the session. The house was quiet except for the rumble of the furnace. The cats were asleep. “Well, I’m waiting,” I said to Jane, joking, at 9:17. She made a face. We waited. “Force it,” I said at 9:20, still joking, and Jane protested in good humor. Finally, she said she felt “him a little bit”....)

In those states, while his body is resting, he is learning greater agility both physically and in natural manipulation of the magical approach in general. He is also given at such times immediate physical feedback: he realizes at once that his body is more at ease, more agile, and so forth. His state of mind during the day then varies, so that with his files (of poetry) today he was in a highly relaxed, creative, productive, mental level, one that served to cushion his mind from the critical reproaches he can often give himself, and therefore bodily relaxation could continue.

The festival incident of the dream state was highly fascinating, and it did represent a particular state of consciousness above all—one in which reality is perceived in a different fashion. The dream (last night) reflected and updated old Sumari traditions that honored God as a god of festivals, of celebration, traditions, that built upon the idea of life itself as a celebration.
