“Seth material” search engine (Jane Roberts)

(Jane was again very relaxed after supper as she sat on the couch watching TV. Indeed, she’d been quite relaxed for much of the day, alternating with periods of soreness in her backside. She hasn’t done too much, other than some typing on her poetry book this morning; she slept for several hours today. The changes continue in her body.

(For the first time in a very long while, most of last week’s mail remains unanswered—sitting in the basket on the table at the end of the couch. Another batch of letters arrived from Prentice-Hall today, adding to the pile. Some of the letters are great, others very depressing. In other words, they range over the usual human situations we encounter. One even took us to task for “obscenities” in Volume 2 of “Unknown.” Jane and I have been talking about how best to deal with the implications of the mail—it often bothers her—but haven’t reached any conclusions. There may not be any simple one way to handle the situation. I ask a question or two about it in my list of questions for Seth.

(Yes, I’ve started my famous list of questions for that “personality energy essence;” it’s based on this latest group of private sessions, that began on February 4, 1981. Jane has read the first two pages of questions. A few may contain new insights into our challenges. Next comes my list of “pithy quotations” from the same group of sessions—positive statements from Seth [usually] that we can quickly review. I can already see that both lists could be almost endless....

(“Well, at least I’m somewhat comfortable in the chair tonight,” Jane said as we waited at 8:58. “I can lean back somewhat—but I’m always the most uncomfortable in the chair. I don’t know what I’m doing here instead of being in bed. Well, I’ll be ready in a minute....” Yet at the same time she sat stiffly forward, her body canted to her left; she didn’t look comfortable, and she decided to try the foam rubber pads beneath her thighs, a move that sometimes “helps relieve the pressure on those [pelvic] bones back there, and keeps me from feeling that I’m falling forward. They also help me when I move around in the chair.” Her talk reminded me, paradoxically, that last night while sitting on the couch she’d been able to cross her legs in a way she hadn’t been able to do for a long time.

(Jane kept shifting around in her chair....)

(Long pause at 9:31.) The displacement target effect is highly important, for it operates in many other fashions. In all natural healing, of course (as Jane mentioned this noon), you are involved with PK activity—as you are ultimately with any physical act, and with any motion, microscopic or otherwise. Too much concentration, however, upon the desired end—too much concentration —can bring about a displacement target effect.

(9:56 PM. Jane’s delivery had been quite good, although she hadn’t appeared to be too comfortable in her chair. I explained to her that this session offered valuable clues as to how to use suggestion: If one could learn how to direct the suggestions —even through the use of misdirection—much could be accomplished. The use of that misdirection would certainly have it funny connotations, too, I thought.

(I also think there are clear connections between Seth’s material this evening and that given in Appendix 4 in Volume 1 of “Unknown.” In that material I quoted Jane’s own material on other “sidepools” of neurological activity. I wrote later in “Unknown” that I thought Appendix 4 contained some of the best material in that work, and I still think so.)
