The upsetting alterations of consciousness occur mainly when Ruburt’s energies are being utilized elsewhere. On physical levels is then when he becomes most aware of the lack of his usual energy, or of available needed resources, which are so connected with thyroid activity.

After a fairly large meal (like we had tonight), for example, digestion begins. His available energy is therefore directed to that activity, and with the thyroid still in a defective state, he feels then unaroused, lapses, and largely by such means (long pause) holds the energy that he has left.
