SESSION 851 (DELETED PORTION)
[... 1 paragraph ...]
(This material is from the 851st session. I suggest that the regular portion of the session be read in conjunction with what follows, for the two parts complement each other well. However, I didn’t want all of the session filed under deleted material, since that other portion has good general application.
(For the past few days I’ve done little “creative” work, beyond working on my watercolor portrait of Mrs. Johnson, the subject of my dream of last November, for an hour or two in the mornings; then in the afternoons I’ve typed these sessions and written the required notes for the record. I’ve done a lot of yard work—it seems to be a very therapeutic activity at this time—and worked on filing. I feel considerably better, to my great relief, although the stomach isn’t cleared yet as much as I would like. The discomfort in the groin/testicle area is much less, at times absent altogether, and I believe that my steady rereading of Seth’s recent private material for me has helped a great deal here. I’ve also taken to using mental imagery in this field, and will continue to do so for some time; I think there’s no reason why that can’t be effective also. It’s something I’ve largely neglected in past periods of discomfort. I haven’t gone back to the pendulum yet. I read Jane’s prayer for her, and Seth’s New Year resolutions for me. The more I study those, the more I realize how good they are.
(I think tonight’s private material came through, at least in part, because I reminded Jane today of Seth’s references to her in recent private sessions. I’m referring at the moment to his comments about her embarrassment, in the early days, at earning more money than I did [see the deleted session for April 16, 1979, page 97], and that in later years the symptoms served to provide us with a sense of separation from the world, for a number of reasons [see the deleted session for April 18]. Seth has already touched upon such questions in the deleted sessions that follow, especially those for April 30 and May 2, and extends his coverage of them this evening in response to my latest queries.

Of course, to some degree the condition involves you both in your social dealings with the world. Ruburt believes in economy, and the condition seemed to take care of many different possible problems, for himself and for you also. You both knew you were different, and whether or not the sessions ever began, your minds were uniquely explorative. You kept the world at a good reach. Ruburt did not know, as given in the past, what the spontaneous self might lead to. The symptoms served to slow him down psychically, while he mentally considered his position.

This session should be of value at this particular time, but I do not want you to dwell upon the reasons for the condition. I want Ruburt to stress instead the expression of the spontaneous self. There are many methods from your point of view, some better than others, of course; and what I am saying this evening is largely directed to you with my knowledge of your viewpoints. In still greater terms, each life experience is unique so that it is literally impossible to put labels, such as “positive” or “negative” upon any aspect of experience, so keep this in mind also.

(10:30 PM. I think the session could well be a very important one for both of us, and that it’s hardly a coincidence that it came along at this time. Jane continues to improve in her walking—she’s up to 12 times daily, with the aid of her typing table—so we seemed to have retreated from the prospect of her becoming so inactive that she stopped getting on her feet. That realization had to come before anything else could be done, of course—so tonight’s session and the questions we’ve been asking lately about the symptoms certainly seem to have come about at the right time.)
