(This unexpected little session was Jane’s first upon our returning to Elmira, NY from Marathon, FL. We arrived home March 2, bleary from five days of driving. We were still tired today, but were in the midst of cleaning up both apartments before settling down to work again.
(The page proofs for Seth Speaks were waiting for us upon our return. We were delighted with them, and had already begun to read them. As we sat at Jane’s worktable looking them over, I remarked that the notes were well written—this was my particular work. Jane said she felt Seth around, tired as she was. I asked if he could say a few words; she told me to get paper and pencil.)

Your trip served among other things as necessary counterpoint. Being away from the life to which he was accustomed, he could on his return see it more clearly, and appreciate it for what it is.
