(Jane burst out laughing, her eyes still slitted. “Now it’s as if I’m going back into the chair, only through it, my legs going through it. Then I was racing up a flight of stairs. Then I was in the chair again, only now it was like a wheelchair. I saw a devil image walking away from me in one direction, and on the other side of me an angel image, walking away; and I knew I had both these images of myself. Then they walked into each other and blended, standing in front of me,” she said, “and while I didn’t see this as clearly, it’s what I am.”

(In the same average voice she began: “In the shadow of the image organized religion [at the same time my hands want to fly up], after it has been set up, has always been afraid of revelationary knowledge; to protect itself; and the Catholic Church in particular cast it in the form of a devil, which I was taught: the sin of pride, wanting to learn.”
(Jane continued: “But that devil image comes from a long pagan line of earth gods, and always represented the innate knowledge inherent even in the earth itself. All the ideas of the fear of the inner self come from the basic division that has for so long existed in the minds of man since the birth of organized religion... Religion tried to make the devil into a black shadow of God, His counterpoint and yet opposite, but man forgot what counterpoint meant. Personified, for example, the devil is the fury of a storm, but disconnected from a storm’s great creativity.”

(“I think I got the wheelchair image about this rocker, too,” Jane said, “because we first got it for your back.... My feet still feel like they’re resting on air, but I know they’re not,” she said, looking down.
(We took a break. There was a little more to the session after we thought it was over, and I made notes about what was said without using verbatim quotes. Jane had some very beautiful images, she said, of the muscles of her neck and back as they supported her head. She could see into her body. She saw the muscles named first as a series of snakes with many heads; the heads changed into hands that supported her head and rotated it about very flexibly. Then came images of the muscles and fibers of her arms.
(We were evidently done by 10:31. When Jane got up she didn’t seem to move about the room any faster. Yet, she said, she felt an image walking just ahead of her; at the same time the feeling of warmth had left her. Residual feelings and images from the session did remain with her, though.
(“The images with the snakes and hands was one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever seen,” she said.
