The others present will always remember what happened here, and my explanation was a necessity if the affair was to be successfully concluded.

I will help you in certain areas. Others will help you in other areas. The energy generated continues to generate more energy, and more will be available for you both to use. The spontaneity was excellent, and Ruburt has learned to give his spontaneous self more freedom in our work.

Your recommendation to him earlier was excellent, having to do with his exercises, and the book. (Psycho-Cybernetics.)

(Pat Norelli, Claire Crittenden, and Carl Watkins ate supper with Jane and me the next night, Saturday, Nov. 25. The supper, spaghetti, was a heavy one, but all of us felt a lassitude other than that possibly caused by a heavy meal. We speculated about the lack of energy for earlier in the week we had planned to go dancing Saturday night .

(Jane sat up as she spoke.) Ruburt was able to direct and use a strong amount of this energy that evening, and he was also aided by your participation. A A originally needed the emotional contact with Ruburt’s student (Venice McCullough) in order to activate within your system.

Ruburt’s clairvoyant abilities need farther development, and I will help here, for instance. Much of your own energy has been used in the situation involving yourself and Ruburt and your joint problems. His energy is now, incidentally, normal— that is, his energy is at the point where it was, but now its emergence will not be blocked as it was at that point, just before his symptoms.

Now listen. Because of his background with his mother he had built up in defense a strong dislike, not merely for illness, for this (Jane, eyes open wide, pointed at me for emphasis), is beneficial, but a strong dislike (pause) that amounted almost (underlined) to hatred, for anyone who was sick, particularly crippled in any way, or hampered in motion.

He was terrified of anyone in such a condition, and he could not allow himself to be compassionate out of fear. I did not give you this material earlier; quite truthfully, I believe you would have misinterpreted it.

He was in no position to help others, for he hated their vulnerability. For his own development therefore he needed to face this on his own and conquer it. Otherwise he would never be able to look upon the sick with a compassionate or understanding eye.

Again, he was too terrified. He will completely recover, and then his story will have meaning. You both knew this. You had your own time of it, partially for the same reason, but he had to face the depths of his own terror, and rise and walk away from it, if he were ever to help others do the same.

There was no easy way therefore, really, though easier ways were available. Had he chosen them, there would have been other problems to face in their stead that would have greatly hampered both his development and your own.

(Pause.) The material just given also helps to explain, you see, the dark emotional depths he traveled, for he followed this very far, spiritually to the depths, and then began his way out. I was a light, but I did not want to help him too much or I would have hampered him. Do you see?

It was difficult for me then also, even though I knew that he would indeed recover.

(As far as I can recall, this is the first time Seth has stated such an approach to a problem, explicitly; although in the past he has referred to various subjects by saying he was not well informed about them.)

Your development as an artist however, given your particular abilities and personality, was not possible in your early years. The qualities for which you shall become known will be somewhat the result of your psychic development also. This much I do know.

My heartiest wishes to you both. It is good for him to sleep without a pillow for a while. The personal contact last evening was good for you both. Your hands upon him— this is of benefit, and to some extent you can direct healing energy to him in this manner. Keep this in mind when there is such physical contact. This is of more benefit now than it would have been in the past, and I recommend it. I did not suggest it in the past because your own inner feelings were so confused. You could have done more harm than good, but that is over. There is a healthy interchange of energy now between you both. This is merely an impression: have Ruburt send the poetry book to a company beginning with a V or an L.
