Now, some of these problems are simply those of the creative personality emerging, in Ruburt’s individual case, in their own way. They should not be overemphasized however, for the creative personality, by the very standards of creativity that it adopts, becomes a focal point for varying conflicts that in many other kinds of personalities are never allowed to emerge. Therefore they are not resolved.

They are however conflicts that are deeply a part of the human condition, and that must be faced in one life or another, both for the sake of the individual and for the sake of humanity at large. The creative personality does indeed have the potential use of greater amounts of energy, the latent capability for emerging psychic insights. The creative personality is striving to be born in new dimensions, to release entirely original concepts, regardless of the field of activity chosen.

The conflicts however are also points of impetus, explosive elements that propel the creative individual from the, in quotes, “ordinary” dimensions of consciousness into another. Now you have experienced this in your own way, and so has Ruburt.

Now. While these conflicts appear highly destructive, and you shake your head at what appears to be some stupidity or stubbornness on Ruburt’s part, the conflicts themselves are creative, and will be used creatively. Do you have questions?

I suggest that you take your break, and we shall continue. Some of the material tonight on the creative personality should help you understand other points that we have not discussed. The determination to attempt so much, the responsibility to use potential, helped make our sessions possible. It is two-edged therefore. It helps bring about Ruburt’s greatest accomplishments, and yet at the same time, overemphasized, it can become a source of failures.

You should concentrate upon creativity and health.

[... 1 paragraph ...]

In your efforts both of you often put the concentration upon the things that are wrong. Now I cannot put it more simply. Both of you concentrate more upon those symptoms that remain, forgetting the improvements that he has made. It is a method that is wrong. Your loving attitude has been of great help, and of a creative nature.

That is why I am giving this material in this session. Tell him he does not have to be spiritually, psychically, or creatively perfect in order to have good health, in the particular way I gave that statement; remind him, for he is equating perfect health with inner perfection, and no human being attains inner perfection. He is holding off (emphatic) on good health until he feels he deserves it. Now this is a point that has not come up before, and he does not realize this consciously.

[... 3 paragraphs ...]

In other words, he felt that unless he was using his abilities fully, and was spiritually, creatively and psychically perfect, he should mar his physical performance. His idea of honesty and his literal interpretation led him to the idea after the worst part of his difficulties were over, that he should keep some of the symptoms to show he was not a hypocrite to others.

[... 16 paragraphs ...]

Both of you set up problems for yourselves to be faced in this existence, challenges to be met. You do not realize that you could have solved the problems and met the challenges adequately, but without the satisfaction of strong creative endeavor. You are managing the problems, though it may appear to you that you are not, in such a way that enduring creativity results.

This is all to the good. In any creativity there must be a magnification. Underline the statement. An intense focus, even an exaggeration of normal tendencies. Without this there is no creativity. You draw the most out of yourself, or out of an event. The same event could be quite flat by contrast, to others. Certain personality characteristics are exaggerated quite purposefully by the creative personality, to act as a lens to intensify experience.

His symptoms would become then at times symbols of your joint lack of perfection, mainly in your works. His symptoms became a hanger upon which you could hang your joint dissatisfactions, his physical condition an easy mark to stand for what both of you considered inner imperfections; again, connected mainly with your creative endeavors.

—I’ll shortly close. A few more points however. Discuss particularly the early portion of this session with him, and get it through his head that health is not dependent upon perfect performance, creativity, psychically or spiritually. This is extremely important, for this is a strong belief with him now; and he did not see the humor when he heard what I said—it made perfect sense to him. This is an area where you can help him.

(Seth’s delivery was very friendly here. I’ve told Jane before that typing up this material has always been a job I do gladly, since I believe in it and regard it as having a vital part of a work that is both highly creative and original. It also gives me an opportunity to do some writing on my own in conjunction with Seth’s own data and this I enjoy greatly.

She is saying “You are not only hurting yourself, but you are hurting me also.” Symbolically, the malady is expressing her attitude perfectly. She is strongly dependent upon the Jesuit, even while she appears, and is in many ways solitary and aggressive; and she is afraid that their intimate life might suffer if the acceleration of his work experience is continued, and if his attitude toward it does not change.

She is ready to combat the symptoms actively and aggressively, because she does not feel that she can actively and aggressively combat the Jesuit’s attitudes that are causing her concern.
