Now as you know, I am a teacher, and interested in instruction. I am not a doctor. This means that my approach to a given problem will be vastly different than the approach of another personality, even on my plane, who has different interests. Therefore I am concerned with, and I emphasize, the importance of inner knowledge, and see physical symptoms for what they are—a reflection of an inner reality.
The reality may be a problem. A doctor will try to the best of his ability to relieve the symptoms, and most of them, regardless of their plane of endeavor, are content with this. To heal a disease by any method is not to remove the inner cause, unless other precise steps are taken.

Now I understand that to one closely and daily involved with the woman, it is difficult to see purpose or reason in the condition. Since the egotistical knowledge of the woman does not include this data, there are of course difficulties here also. But the inner self of the woman knows that in facing such a condition and finding nevertheless some moments of joy, even some compassion for others, that the personality has satisfied many of those feelings of inadequacy from the past existence. (One minute pause, eyes closed.)
Now. No (underlined) physical condition is irreversible, with the exception of loss of limbs and definite organs. The personality is always free to choose, in your terms, its future. But the choice is with the inner self, which is the real identity. There are of course other elements entering into any such situation. Telepathically received suggestions from others, and so forth. (Pause.)

Obviously the cause behind illness is not always the same. In a reincarnational sense, the personality for a while takes the role of a sick person, as an actor would, and is completely immersed in it. Obviously again, more dimensions are involved here than in an actor’s role. The actor would merely try to imagine how it would be like to be in such a position. The person in the reincarnational role is as immersed in it as possible. He decides to take the role for various reasons of his own, and the inner self knows that the role was chosen.
The inner self does not feel threatened, therefore, only the part of the personality that is momentarily unaware of the true situation. Others also respond, and are in this drama for their own reasons. (Long pause.) The drama has a theme, and through working out the problems therein presented the theme becomes clear. In some psychological circles there are therapeutic groups that operate by setting up such dramas. Remember, the purpose is therapeutic, though it may not appear so. And none of this should be taken to mean that the sufferings are not quite real to those involved.

Earlier I recommended a good hypnotist, hoping that the woman might find her way if positive suggestions were given; for even if the inner self had solved its problems, it would need help, psychological help, in reversing the physical trend. I hoped such a hypnotist could act therefore as a guide, if the personality was ready to begin a journey to health. The inner personality was not ready.

I understand the husband’s deep concern. The doctor and the medium mentioned by Ruburt are quite legitimate. I am aware of his work. No doctor in your plane or mine, can relieve an individual of symptoms if the symptoms are serving a valid purpose to the inner self; or, in relieving particular symptoms, others will arise.
