There is nothing, neither knowledge nor beauty nor truth, that exists independently of consciousness or personality. My personality is such that it is not intimate or understandable to you, now, simply because it is a personality based upon different root assumptions than your own, and has its prime existence in dimensions that are composed of personality structures and gestalts based on alien psychological activities.
I am not giving you some kind of disembodied knowledge, however. Knowledge itself (pause, smile) is conscious. It is not a dead thing transmitted, since it has no meaning without personality and realization, and since it changes the personalities through whom it seems to flow. In changing them it of necessity is part of the awareness of the very cells it alters.
It is not like a liquid that flows through a bowl. It becomes a part of that which contains it, and therefore a part of the consciousness, in your case, of the cells and all of your structures. Words on a printed page for example are not dead, nor are they merely inert symbols. They share the consciousness of the material upon which they are printed and the various individual letters themselves, by their position and reality, make each unique piece of paper upon which they are written original from all others.
The newsprint to this degree, you see, has a consciousness, even in this regard. The least information is not inert. All symbols have a meaning therefore in themselves also, and a reality apart from that which they are meant to display. You can see this easily. The painting of a tree, while a symbol for the tree, nevertheless has its own consciousness and reality.
The consciousnesses is composed of the individual consciousnesses that make up the material that is within the painting, and yet there is also a gestalt consciousness that is the result of the artist’s overall conception. Anything that an observer learns from looking at the painting is always living knowledge, that alters his own makeup.
Your Seth has helped me out here. You could say that you are merely symbols of your own greater reality, since your own greater reality exists in as many other dimensions as the tree exists from a rendering of it. Yet you are conscious and aware. Therefore behind every actuality in each dimension there are always other actualities and dimensions.
Consciousness so varies in degree that as yet you have little real idea of its basic unity and of its endless diversity.
