SESSION 411
[... 1 paragraph ...]
(Notes: No session was held Monday, 5/13. Today Jane called Tam Mossman of Prentice-Hall, to discuss the prospectus for the Seth book suggested by Prentice-Hall.
(We sat ready for a session at 9 PM. Jane was still waiting by 9:10 for the session to begin; while feeling a little unsureness we were still confident that a session would be held. Notes later will explain the mechanisms involved.

(This material re personality follows our talk before the session.)
Without the sort of directed knowledge that you are receiving, you have what appears as inspiration, a hit-or-miss affair, highly distorted as a rule. (Pause.) In the case of your sessions, you habitually became accustomed to manipulating certain coordinates, and this manipulation constantly increases your ability to receive information from us, and to achieve consistency of results. The coordinates do affect the physical system or any such communications would be impossible.

(Referred to here is Jane’s attempt to write the book, The Physical Universe as Idea Construction, which she struggled with a few weeks before these sessions began on December 2, 1963.)
[... 1 paragraph ...]
Now, changing the coordinates does involve a shifting of inner focus and an extension of the inner senses. One of the reasons for the change in the sessions is to give Ruburt experience along these lines.
[... 1 paragraph ...]
Now in your last session Ruburt was given a very primary experience. You asked what it was like to be a personality never formed into physical matter, and I helped him attain some awareness, subjectively, of that condition. He could not go far enough into that concept, but he was briefly between physical existences as you know them.

(True. Jane’s realization came last evening as she described the event to her ESP students. This was news to me, also, for she had not told me about it. She said that in between such events it is surprisingly easy to forget about them. Often a question or statement of mine, for instance, will remind her to tell me something. Note that in the last session, my notes contain no reference to Jane’s feeling that she was, however momentarily, between two worlds.)
[... 1 paragraph ...]
The sense of rather strained neutrality Ruburt feels now before sessions is simply caused by the strangeness of changing coordinates from the ones with which he has been accustomed.

(“You think of a trance as going deeper. In this it’s all going higher—the voice, the distance, etc. I didn’t get the pyramid tonight. I don’t know when I start. I just start.” Jane said that when the session began she had a tiny hint of first encountering Seth’s personality, and then of going beyond this to the other.
(Her pace had been faster this evening with the new voice, especially toward the break. We thought her between-worlds experience a very good sign, in that the new personality was already beginning to fulfill functions, to add new dimensions to the sessions. Before, we had wondered at the reasons for its appearance for it had seemed that Seth could have given the data as easily.

In the session in which Ruburt felt energy so strongly.
(“Yes.” This would be very recently. See the 406th session.

This is enough for this evening’s session. (Pause.) Now, you can call upon Seth if you prefer to.
[... 5 paragraphs ...]
(Any difficulty persisted, she thought, just because of the newness in the sessions. But she did like to hear from Seth each session just to make sure he was still there.
[... 1 paragraph ...]
(Seth then spoke out. I was somewhat surprised, thinking the session had ended. Seth was strong and immediate and vital, eyes open. 10:36.)

—messages this evening. Almost but not quite, you had a dialogue going. Often both of us gave information in some sessions, but I did not believe that you were ready for any deep explanations. This is indeed still the Seth material.
[... 12 paragraphs ...]
Understand again that these divisions are arbitrary. We are part—independent portions—of the same personality, he and I. If you have no further questions I will leave you to your domestic quiet. Anytime you want me to liven your sessions up however I will do so. And I will be here often, as a matter of course, in our regular sessions.
(“You mean we could ask for you to hold the session on any particular evening?”)
