The changes of which you know are initial ones, that will not affect you as directly, or rather as beneficially as you might suppose, but will initiate changes that will affect you beneficially.

Now. There seem to be four men playing chess, symbolically speaking. One man appears to have the advantage, but another will take it from him, and your best interests will lie with this second man. The first one now has the ascendancy. Three men work together for their own ends.

If you hold out your position will be strengthened. The man closest to you in the establishment will no longer restrain you. He is not in a position to, and his own position has changed. He is one of the pawns.

(9:28. Jane’s trance had again been a good one, her pace fast, voice fairly strong, eyes closed for much of the early part of the delivery.

(The chess references by Seth were interesting. Neither Jane nor I play chess or know the moves. It developed that John had recently given one of his young sons a chess set; the boy knew the game to some extent and wanted to teach John. More on this later.

Now. Four men were involved in the promotion of the man to whom you spoke. One of these will be out for all practical purposes. The others will begin to change the philosophy within the enterprise, so that the climate is more to your liking.

There were others who did not want the man promoted, and these men do not want you promoted. This Stan is against your promotion, except in one particular area where it might serve to his own particular advantage. Otherwise he is against it.

One of these men is younger by some years. The stakes are high, for you have indeed always wanted to shape the policy, and that is why you should not move yet. Let the man from California speak his peace.

Besides this there will be a natural meeting of minds. Of the other two men, one is not in the picture as yet. This does not matter. But the third man must arrive in the picture. His advancement must come before your move can be made with any assurance of success. He is another within the company whose ideas match your own to some degree.

([John, laughing:] “I’d just like to say one thing, Seth. Are you still with us?”)

My dear friend. We shall be part of an association in the future. I shall be incorporated. (Eyes wide open, voice getting louder and stronger.) Now I am glad that you have come to visit us, although I am somewhat disappointed in you. I did indeed use the symbol of the chessboard because I knew that you had been involved with one. I was trying, you see, to make you comfortable by dealing with what I thought was a common point of interest.
