(Just before 9 PM Jane had been telling me she was more aware of Seth’s presence preceding the session.)

The book he is writing now is merely a beginning, and an excellent one, the act of faith from which other developments in your own psychic lives will grow. His writing ability has always been based on intuitive leaps. In fiction and poetry he allowed himself this intuitive freedom, but he was afraid to apply it to the real physical universe. This is why his most effective and publishable fiction was in the form of fantasy.

There were two worlds to him instead of one, and he would not apply his intuitions to physical life directly. Nevertheless he helped develop your inner freedom so that you could apply it to your painting. There will be changes to come in your own work, and you are now reaching toward them.

(9:30. Jane said that during break she was in a rather “half and half” world —half in trance, half not. She never used to be aware of such a feeling, she said; and during sessions now she is “just out.” She is much farther out than she used to be, she said, and feels now more and more like Seth and less like Jane. Nor does she have as many scruples about allowing the deeper trance state.

Now there are ways you are not using that will enable you to take advantage of that psychic and psychological gestalt formed by the two of you. Joint psychic endeavors should be very successful and help you both develop your abilities further. Joint creative endeavors will be very successful if you ever attempt them. You do not realize the extent to which your own intuitive abilities have been awakened by your contact with Ruburt. He does, I believe, realize how his have been collected together and directed because of his association with you.

The more aspects of yourselves that you are familiar with, the more prepared you will be. You will still learn to give yourself, your intuitions, the upper hand in your work, Joseph, so that the form and the technique, so beautifully plastered, is secondary, and flows automatically from the idea.

(10:16. Jane was once again very well dissociated, and took a few minutes to get her eyes open. During break we discussed the fact that Jane’s ESP students had plenty of questions for Seth to discuss. It seemed they always could use a session, and I wondered if Jane had the energy for the extra demands; and to what use the class sessions would be put.

I will let our friend off and close our session. He will learn to operate within this new trance state quickly. His intuitive knowledge however will become a part of his present personality. (Jane gestured, amused.) He will not turn into me. This is one of his secret worries, you see. (Partial laugh.) He is not going to give up fun, and become a long-faced spiritual fogy. Even I am not that.

(10:28. Jane sat quietly, her eyes closed. When I finally realized the session was over I said good night to Seth. Her eyes remained closed for another minute or two, then opened very slowly. She said she felt very heavy-eyed and sleepy, and once again wasn’t sure just how to go about getting out of the session.

(Jane asked me if I noticed any physical changes in her face toward the last, since she was so strongly aware of Seth. I could only say that for the last few paragraphs the set of her mouth and chin had seemed to me to be somehow different, older, not quite like the set I am used to. But I don’t believe any transmigration figured here. I think it quite possible that Jane’s emotional appreciation of the Seth personality accounted for the changes as she was involved in delivering the material.)
