All summer it had been limping along; it could not be driven more than 35 to 40 miles per hour without a strong vibration throughout, and any attempts at a higher speed seemed to be outright dangerous. The garage that services it said it was unsafe to be used outside the city limits, for fear of breakdown, etc.
