This does not involve a change in consciousness itself, merely a change in the direction in which consciousness is focused. This ability is obviously not only inherent within the human race, but it is used constantly in your ordinary life to some degree. Usually however this involves a rather surface change of focus, as your attentions are directed first upon specific physical areas, and then switched to other specific physical areas.
