(Once again the session was held in our quiet back room. Both of us felt somewhat tired, but attributed it to the weather, which has been cloudy and oppressive for the past few days. Jane and I try to ignore such factors consciously, but have no doubt we feel the psychic effects of weather as much as anybody else.

I have spoken often concerning the importance of changing focus, altering the direction of consciousness. This does not involve a change in consciousness itself, merely a change in the direction in which consciousness is focused. This ability is obviously not only inherent within the human race, but it is used constantly in your ordinary life to some degree. Usually however this involves a rather surface change of focus, as your attentions are directed first upon specific physical areas, and then switched to other specific physical areas.

They form a sort of insulation which makes communication difficult. You can see that they occur infrequently, since this is the first time that they have annoyed us. They occur to some degree fairly frequently, but this period is one in which they are strong enough to exert some force.

(My chest came to feel that it was much wider, much broader and stronger and thicker—perhaps a yard wide. My upper arms gradually grew to feel that they were as thick as my thighs. My hands, as on July 9, came to feel the size of baseball gloves. I was aware of a greatly enlarged feeling in each of the fingers to some degree, as before, but this time the feeling that my fingers were somehow united into a pawlike or clublike unit was dominant.
